You could have heard a body drop when news reached the Filmshaft office that Dagenham was hosting a cauldron of gangster violence, sexual deviance and the supernatural. “What’s the story there? Why don’t we go the whole hog and report on the f—king local buses?” was just one response but when Filmshaft informed Ed Whitfield that there were vampires and free sandwiches involved, his mood changed. “I suppose I could go and take a look…”

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment are bringing Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger to Blu-ray Disc on January 12 with the release of Cliffhanger and Last Action Hero.
Each film will be offered in its original aspect ratio at 1080p resolution wtih 5.1 DTS-hd Master Audio.
Last Action Hero will be bare bones save for Sony's movieIQ Bd-Live feature that will also appear on Cliffhanger. Sly's mountainous adventure will also come packed with a slew of additional bonus features.

We wrote a couple months ago about Renny Harlin's upcoming film about the 2008 conflict between Georgia and Russia. Now, as then, I'm interested in the film to see if Harlin can take what made a few of his films really entertaining (I'm thinking of Cliffhanger, Deep Blue Sea and The Long Kiss Goodnight) and apply it to something that isn't so flashy. Can he come up with a film that's actually good? It's been a while. Today he's got some of the cast lined up for the picture, which we now know will be called simply Georgia.
Val Kilmer and Entourage's Emmanuelle Chriqui are the leads in the film, says THR. The dust may still be settling on Russia's conflict with Georgia, but Renny Harlin isn't messing about, with Georgia, his (anti)war movie set during the war, picking up another cast member in the shapely form of Emmanuelle Chriqui. Chriqui, best known as Eric's girlfriend Sloan in Entourage, will play a local woman who becomes entangled with an American journalist (Val Kilmer) and cameraman assigned to cover Georgia's 2008 assault on the Russian-backed Republic of South Ossetia. Before we continue, Renny Harlin’s upcoming film “Georgia” is not about The Peach State and the tale how Coca-Cola will one day flow out of our drinking fountains. “Georgia” is based on last year’s conflict between Russia and the country of Georgia. THR reports that hottie/red-carpet eye candy Emmanuelle Chriqui will play opposite Val Kilmer in the drama about an American journalist (Kilmer) and his cameraman caught in the crossfire and a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.

It may be hard to believe now, but once upon a time Renny Harlin was an in-demand action movie director, having directed hits like “Die Hard 2″, “Cliffhanger”, and “The Long Kiss Goodnight”. More recently, not so much. Harlin hasn’t exactly had the best of resumes in the last few years, with junk like “The Covenant” and “12 Rounds” to his credit. He’s looking to rise from direct-to-dvd hell (and bad movies starring wrestlers) with the kinda-current themed “Georgia”, a war drama that will be set in the country of Georgia and star Val Kilmer as a journalist covering the recent Russia-Georgia conflict.
“Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui (who can also be seen in the delightful sounding “Women in Trouble”) has now been added to the cast as a Georgian native and doctoral student who becomes tangled up with Kilmer and his cameraman during the event.

Sylvester Stallone is all over the pop culture landscape. The actor-director is starting to tease us with his upcoming "The Expendables" and he's also working on the pre-production for "Rambo 5."
But now, he revealed to Empire Online, that he wanted to remake the Charles Bronson masterpiece, "Death Wish." It's the original vigilante movie from the 70s.
"I'm thinking about it," Stallone told Empire. "It's a classic morality tale, where you take a civilised man and take away everything that matters to him so he becomes primitive again."
But wait, there's more! Stallone is not stopping with "Death Wish" for all his film wishes. He also has a passion for American Gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe. Sly wants his pit and pendulum too :happy
Although Stallone said he would not be playing the author (he died at 39), he thinks an autobiographical film about Poe is bound to come.

In a wide-ranging interview about his upcoming projects, Sylvester Stallone told Empire about plans for his Death Wish remake, the Cliffhanger update (he says he's got nothing to do with it), and perhaps most interestingly, a bio-pic about Edgar Allan Poe.
You can read about the other projects at Empire, but Stallone says he's serious about the Poe movie and that it is moving forward. "Of course, I'm not playing Poe," cautions the filmmaker you wouldn't pick out of a line-up of directors to make such a movie.
"'Yo, Poe!' It won't work," Stallone jokes about himself in the starring role. "It'll be some young actor because he dies at 39, but it's gonna happen."

Sylvester Stallone isn't done yet with action movies. Having two forthcoming actioners on his sleeves, "The Expendables" and "Rambo V: The Savage Hunt", the 63-year-old admitted to Empire that he has his eye on "Death Wish", the remake to the 1970's exploitation film of the same name.
"I'm thinking about it," Sly opened up. "It's a classic morality tale, where you take a civilized man and take away everything that matters to him so he becomes primitive again." He continued, "The story's been done many times, and when it's done well, it's an emotionally engaging film. The trouble with remakes is that people fall in love with the original. It's like peanut butter. If you try to change the taste of peanut butter, you're in trouble."

There are two action stars who are probably immortal. One is now the Governor of Caliornia and he doesn't like "economic girly-men" while the other is still very much an action star. According to Sylvester Stallone, he’s not really doing a “Death Wish” remake. Yet. He’s thinking about it, though, so there are some legitimacy to all those rumors that had Stallone going all vigilante on us. And then there’s that “Cliffhanger” remake. Stallone says to forget about him coming on board. In fact, he sounds practically sad they’re remaking one of his movies.
In regards to “Death Wish”, Stallone tells Empire:

As American filmmakers have struggled, and largely failed, to tell stories about the ongoing wars in the Middle East, they've ignored rich cinematic material in other wars, in other countries. Not Renny Harlin! The filmmaker known for schlocky 90s action movies like Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea is turning his attention to the conflict between Russia and neighboring nation Georgia, a conflict that turned into outright war in 2008 and continues to seethe to this day.

Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger helmer Renny Harlin will next direct an as yet untitled war movie about the 5 day Russia-Georgia conflct, according to Variety.
The short war began Aug. 8, 2008, when Georgian forces attacked the
border territory in South Ossetia. Russia recognized the territory's
independence and subsequently routed Georgian forces; tensions have
remained high ever since.
"I want to make a film that says something about the human condition,
and even if only a few people see this and feel its impact and its
antiwar message, then I will have done something that's important and I
will be proud of it," The renowned popcorn filmmaker told the trade.
Shooting is set to kick off in September.

• Steve Zahn is set to star in Thor Freudenthal's adaptation of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," based on Jeff Kinney's novels. The film follows a pre-adolescent wise guy who gets into quite a bit of trouble at school and at home. Zachary Gordon will play the lead. (Variety)

-- I don't know if it's the "first" to hit the web (I'm pretty sure it's not), but IGN UK have posted their review of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra." It's mostly high praise for Stephen Sommers' high-energy action flick, and I couldn't be more pleased. I'd been feeling uneasy about "Joe" in recent months, but all of those fears were literally Blown The Eff Up when I saw the movie myself this past weekend. (IGN UK)

Back in May, StudioCanal announced that they would be teaming with Neal Moritz's Original Films to reboot Cliffhanger. At the time, not much was known about the project aside from the fact that it would be big budget and would center on a group of young climbers on "multiple cliff-face locations." At the time, Moritz said that they were searching for a screenwriter, and hoping to begin production in 2010.
Our friends at FirstShowing might have come across a scoop regarding the film's scribe. While attending a Santa Monica screening of The Monster Squad, director Fred Dekker revealed that he is "currently writing Cliffhanger 2." It is interesting that he referred to the project as "Cliffhanger 2" and not a remake or reboot of Cliffhanger. Is it possible that the story has Sylvester Stallone set to return as Gabe Walker? Or are we reading too much into a quick comment. Probably

For the record can I just say, holy crap! Now, that I've moved on from the initial shock I can tell you that we have a Cliffhanger 2 coming.
Now back in May it was announced that Cliffhanger was getting the good ol' reboot.
