A new promotional trailer for Twisted Pictures' latest foray into revenge and darkness, The Tortured, popped up in time for Afm, and as always we've got you covered for a quick look!
The Tortured, from the producers of the Saw franchise, follows a young mother (Erika Christensen) and her husband (Jesse Metcalf), who decide that the criminal justice system hasn’t adequately punished the man who kidnapped their son. They formulate a diabolical plan to exact their own revenge and slowly realize that the best way to relieve their pain is to inflict some. How far will they go before “justice is served...?”
Bill Moseley also stars in the pic directed by Rob Lieberman (Fire in the Sky). Check out the promo trailer from Afm below.

It was a miserly start to the Holiday movie season as the high profile movie positioned to bring the most cheer, A Christmas Carol, stumbled a bit out of the gate. Overall weekend business was off 14 percent from the same timeframe last year, when Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa landed, and was on the low end for early November.
Haunting approximately 6,500 screens at 3,683 sites, A Christmas Carol churned out an estimated $31 million, selling fewer tickets than Elf and The Santa Clause 2 and far fewer than star Jim Carrey's last Christmas movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. On the other hand, Carol's opening grossed more than The Polar Express, the previous performance-capture animated Christmas movie from director Robert Zemeckis that chugged strongly throughout the 2004 season despite its disappointing $23.3 million start, but that picture was muted by The Incredibles whereas Carol had no such direct competitor. According to distributor Walt Disney Pictures' exit polling,

Director: Olatunde Osunsanmi
Writer(s): Olatunde Osunsanmi
Starring: Milla Jovovich, Elias Koteas, Will Patton
Disclaimer: Though there are no plot spoilers included in this review beyond a basic premise, the claim of "real actual footage" being used in the film is highly scrutinized and discussed.
Set in Nome, Alaska, The Fourth Kind follows the path of psychiatrist Dr. Abigail Tyler just after the tragic unsolved death of her husband in the Fall 2000. Dr. Tyler's patients begin to express the same pattern of issues causing them to have trouble sleeping. Each patient recalls seeing a white owl outside their window and under hypnosis, exhibit behaviors that suggest encounters with non-human intruders. Once awake each person explains feeling paralyzed, hearing horrific noises and voices outside their bedroom doors just before something takes them from their rooms against their will. Detailed account beyond this goes dark as the fear consumes their memories and mental stability.

Directed and written by Olatunde Osunsanmi

Alien abductions seem to have slipped off the cultural agenda in recent years. Gone are the glory days of the 1990s, when The X-Files inspired everyone and their grandmother to believe that they were beamed into the belly of a spaceship on a nightly basis in order to be violated in the name of alien research (the "fourth kind" of alien encounter). A 2000 poll suggested an eye-popping 52% of Americans actually wanted contact with an Et, although interest - and belief - in alien life forms has since waned. However, as we turn the final corner towards 2012, it seems we can expect the little grey rocketmen to make a re-appearance, at least at our multiplexes, if not actually brandishing their anal probes at the end of our beds. Once again, it seems horror audiences may want to scream

If you have been eagerly anticipating Friday’s release of The Fourth Kind, here is a creepy little featurette from Universal and Yahoo Movies to prime you for the movie — which you can watch after the jump. It’s no spoiler to note that the plot of the movie has to do with missing people in Alaska, and possible alien abduction. This featurette provides a back-story, so to speak, about the four different kinds of alien encounters.
Still can’t sate your appetite for alien abduction? If so, take a look at these other genre titles while you are biding your time. And, look for our review of The Fourth Kind on Friday.
• Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) – Arguably the best known in the genre. This movie terrified me when I saw it as a child. Steven Speilberg’s follow up to Jaws racked up several oscar nominations and won for best cinematography.

The Fourth Kind is an incredibly unsatisfying alien abduction movie. Unsatisfying because it has neither an alien or an abduction!
In Nome, Alaska, people under hypnosis remember being abducted by aliens who first notice they are being watched by an owl--that is not an owl. After seeing this boring flick, I would be amazed if owls want to watch it (even if they are not owls).
The title comes from categories of alien contact. The beginning of this film is strange. Actress Milla Jovovich walks out in an Alaskan forest to explain that she's going to be playing Dr. Abigail Tyler. Then for the next 10 minutes, we see purportedly real footage of the 'real' Tyler, sometimes in split screen with Milla Jovovich. While that sounds interesting, it really isn't--it's distracting and the people look nothing like who they are playing.
I'm all for verisimilitude, but this gets dull fast. Just as you're sick of it,

Watch a Disturbing New Clip from The Fourth Kind

Not since Fire in the Sky have we been so disturbed by a single clip involving alien abductions. Strap in, folks, and clench your butt cheeks together as tightly as you can lest you be probed!
Synopsis
In 1972 a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document...until now.
Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where — mysteriously since the 1960s — a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.

I’m a wuss. I freely admit it. I watch horror films in the theater by myself under the guise of being manly and not letting different types of horror get to me. However, if you were to see me in a theater watching a particular type of horror film you’ll notice I wear a cap. That cap remains pulled closely to my eyebrows so I can easily block my gaze from the horror images on the screen. See I told you, Wuss! I do feel very proud of myself for putting on my big boy pants and strolling into the theater to begin with though.
So what kinds of horror get to me? Hauntings and alien abduction movies are top on my list for turning me into a puddle of wussiness. Movies like Fire in the Sky, Poltergeist, Amityville Horror, The Haunting in Connecticut, the new smash hit

Trailer Made: 'The Fourth Kind'

The Fourth Kind trailer depicts a pseudo-documentary, told primarily through reenactments, narrated by supermodel / actress Milla Jovovich, about a series of alien abductions that take place in Nome, Alaska.
The first shot that brings us into this world is an adjusting camera eye. Then we see archival footage of a Dr. Abigail Tyler being interviewed with the stamp of Chapman University in the bottom corner, very conspicuous. Indeed, it’s unavoidable for us to see this seal of authenticity. The belittlement — it’s not Harvard University or Yale — only revs our instinct to believe this is in fact truth. (After all, who would fabricate a lesser academy as their source?)
Then, we see Milla herself. She walks up to camera through a foggy wood and speaks directly at us. "I am actress Milla Jovovich. I will be portraying Dr. Abigail Tyler. This film is a dramatization of events that occurred

The Fourth Kind Trailer Threatens Creepiness And Anal Probes

One of the many gimmicks available to film-makers is the "Based on true events" tag meant to add authenticity and weight to their film. It makes sense for historically accurate movies like Inglourious Basterds and biographical ones like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, but when applied to movies about big-eyed, three-fingered aliens abducting and anally raping people it risks flirting with absurdity. With the thought of anal fingering fresh in your mind, check out the trailer for the new movie, The Fourth Kind.
I apologize if I led you to believe there would be fingering in the trailer. I will give it points for being creepy, but it sure seems like it features a lot of people talking on a couch. There's also a definite Mothman Prophecies vibe going on with a dash of White Noise for good measure. That's not necessarily a bad thing mind you, as both of those movies were more than a little

The Transformers: The Complete First Seasonshout Factory Home ENTERTAINMENT1984-85/General Audiences/6 HoursNow Available . List Price $29.99Has it really been twenty-five years since 'The Transformers' hit the scene? Man I feel old. I was actually into the 'Go-Bots' toys for a (very) brief period before this far more interesting story of alien robots waging war on Earth came to my attention in the fall of 1984. The animation was what one would expect from Marvel/Sunbow productions who had previously done great work on shows like 'Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends'. Basically 'The Transformers' animated series and comic books were created for the sole purpose of selling Hasbro's new toy line, but try telling us kids that. The writers came up with such likable characters and interesting stories that the line between fiction and reality would often be blurred for a ten-year-old. The character of heroic Autobot leader
