I think we all knew from the start what movie was going to win last week's poll, but still, I was kinda hoping for an upset. Don't get me wrong, I love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but I didn't want people to count out Carrey's early comedies either. I thought the subtle wording of the poll question ("favourite", not "best") would help. Ah well. The good news is, Dumb & Dumber managed to place second, and both Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask broke the top 5. Man on the Moon wasn't as high as I expected though... I guess people have cooled off on that flick. Don't you miss the days when Ace Ventura quotes were cool? "Alllllrighty then!"
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind -- 28.2%
2. Dumb & Dumber -- 22.6%
3. The Truman Show -- 14.4%
4. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective -- 12.5%
5. The Mask -- 6.4%
6. The Cable Guy -- 6.1%
7. Liar Liar --

The ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’ actor – who has suffered from the mood disorder since 1994 and admitted to taking prescription drugs - said starring in the heartwarming traditional festive tale helped him to find perspective on his own life.
He said: “Everybody loves a good transformational story - somebody who sees the light and finds out what's important in life. It was wonderful to get to the bottom of a character I've seen done a hundred different ways.”
Speaking of turning his own life around, Jim, 47, said there is now “more light” since he has banished prescription drugs, switched to a healthy diet and became step-father to his partner Jenny McCarthy’s autistic six year old son Evan.
He explained: “I created tools to help my treatment and I went down a path with some amazing scientific minds who are using supplemental treatments for depression.”

Have you been to JimCarrey.com? It's seriously weird. A Flash-powered gallery of insights into the mind of a man who once bent over and used his rear end as a second mouth (true story; see "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective"). The home page alone is filled with imagery that will surely seep its way into my nightmares over the coming weeks.
What, you ask? How about the Vw Minibus teetering on the tip of what appears to be a giant stalagmite with an oversized Carrey dancing on its roof while an orange tentacle reaches out from the inside to grab his leg. I can't make this stuff up people. Jim Carrey is an odd individual. The Vw is just a starting point too, one of several that leads you to the other deranged areas of the actor's web portal.
A little poking around reveals that it's pretty much a standard-issue

Kevin James is currently shooting his new movie "The Zookeeper," a comedy that is already experiencing a bit of problems with the animals involved. While filming at the Franklin Park Zoo, producers transported in Tweet the giraffe, which has appeared in Jim Carrey's "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and in a series of TV commercials for Toys R Us. Upon Tweet's arrival onto the set on Friday, the 18-year-old animal (which had no known health problems) suddenly collapsed in its enclosure and died. The animal welfare group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, alleges Tweet was mistreated and has asked for an investigation. American Humane, which oversees animal treatment on movie sets, denies mistreatment.

Which was the best year for movies: 1977, 1994, or 1999?

Last week, we posted a story about how 1984 was the best movie year ever when it comes to films you actually want to watch on a rainy day playing hooky from work. Movies like Ghostbusters, Bachelor Party, This is Spinal Tap, Footloose, and The Terminator. Movies that were the exact opposite of the highfalutin' offerings from 1939 -- the year critics always cite as the greatest Hollywood vintage of all time. Don't get us wrong, there were some decent high-brow movies from 25 years ago, too, like Amadeus and The Killing Fields. But mostly we were talking about movies that were, you know, fun.
And while some of you agreed with us about 1984's greatness, others were outraged. Apoplectic. Even concerned for our sanity. Some even made cases for other "greatest years". And we listened. That's what we do. So now, we've tallied up your nominees and narrowed it down to your
