• Continuity: When Akutagawa and the Japanese Ambassador are talking after playing a game of Go!, the pieces disappear and re-appear a number of times.
  
  
• Continuity: During the blindfold fight between Chen Zhen and the uncle in the field, the uncle's blindfold changes position.
  
  
• Revealing mistakes: When Chen Zen is about to flip Gen. Fujita on the birds, Fujita throws his head backwards before he is flipped, making it clear that he already knew he was about to be flipped.
  
  

• Continuity: When Gen. Fujita sees Chen Zen kicking at his face, he grabs Chen's leg and throws him away. His arm is already down when Chen is in the air. But when Chen hits a rock, breaking it, Fujita's arm is still going down.
  
  
• Continuity: When Chen Zen flips one of the Niguchi students while his fingers are in the student's mouth, he seems to be doing it with his right hand. But when the student falls, it seems Chen did it with his left hand, although he wipes his right hand on his clothes.
  
  
• Anachronisms: Although set in 1937, one of the cars seen on the street in Shanghai is a 1947 Chevrolet, and another is a 1948 Buick.
  
  
• Continuity: In the final fight between Chen Zen and Gen. Fujita, every time Fujita falls to the ground his hair is longer, revealing it to be a stunt double.
