"Are you soulless right now?" Emily Watson asks Paul Giamatti in horror at one point in the marvelous Cold Souls. Were the question directed at G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the answer would be a deafening yes. This is the movie as pure product without soul or inspiration. It was blueprinted rather than created, assembled by drones to be shown to drones, who will walk out of it and, when asked to describe it, drone on. This product comes from the dreaded Stephen Sommers, who has made a career of despoiling classic texts of all kinds. From Huckleberry Finn to The Jungle Book to The Mummy, Sommers specializes in taking much-loved works, stripping them of nuance and giving them the cinematic equivalent of Red Bull -- an injection of artificial energy that leads to an inevitable crash once the sugar/caffeine rush... »

Well that didn't take too long! ComingSoon has debuted the full 30-second TV spot for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra - which gives us our first-ever glimpse at finished footage from the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. I'll admit I'm very impressed by the look of this. Sure, it may be incredibly over-the-top, even pushing heavily into the cheesy range of things, but that's part of why this look so damn good. That's what G.I. Joe is known for (remember those cheesy cartoons?) and I expect this to just be ridiculously fun. What more could you ask for?! All of the action looks quite epic and exciting and that's what I just want to see. Enjoy! Watch the full G.I. It's rare that I write about something that will become obsolete in under 48 hours, but today I'm making a big exception. Entertainment Tonight has debuted a less-than-10-second teaser for the new G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra teaser that will be showing during the Super Bowl on Sunday (tomorrow). Normally I'd just let this slide because we're seeing the final footage so soon afterwards, but not this. Everyone needs to see this. This is one of those moments where I finally get to say "I told you so!" While this isn't much, and I need to see it clearer, this brief bit of footage definitely looks awesome. I can't wait to see more on Sunday! The high definition TV spot has debuted online - watch it right here! G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is directed by big action filmmaker Stephen Sommers, of The Jungle Book, Deep Rising, The Mummy, »
