  • Continuity: When Cadets attempt to photograph Heathcoat with Major Payne, the first time Cadet Stone looks in, the clock shows 4:00, a few seconds later when the rest of the Cadets enter the room, the clock shows 12:30.

  • Continuity: When the cadet in the lunch room passes out, he (and all the cadets) are wearing blue/grey uniforms. When they awaken the cadet in the next scene outside, they are all wearing camouflage.

  • Continuity: In the Night Club/Restaurant, Major Payne eats all the food on his plate. The plate is alternately empty/full in subsequent shots.

  • Continuity: At the restaurant the amount of food on major Payne's plate changes, along with the amount of plates on the table

  • Revealing mistakes: When Payne is dreaming about his fantasy life with Tiger and his mom, the soldier who attacks them has a very visible rubber gun.

  • Factual errors: At the end of the movie, the recruit with a "Blind Seeing Eye Dog" German Shepherd is shown. This dog is just a guide dog, because "Seeing Eye" is a brand name, and would appear on the harness.

  • Factual errors: Guide dogs have leashes on them outside of a home at all times, and would not be running loose.

  • Factual errors: The German Shepherd barked at Major Payne. Guide dogs are taught not to be bark or be aggressive, therefore this dog would not have made it through training.

  • Continuity: Early in the movie, when Major Payne kicks the window in his room, the next shot of him shows the window is not broken. It looks brand new.

  • Errors in geography: Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is in California, not Virginia as shown on the sign in the beginning of the movie.

  • Factual errors: All JROTC units have at least two instructors, typically a retired officer and a retired enlisted. There is only one instructor.

  • Factual errors: On several occasions, Payne salutes General Decker while inside. As any real-life Marine will verify, USMC personnel *never* salute indoors.

  • Continuity: After Maj. Payne sends Alex Stone's step father away and is talking to Alex you can see an earring in his right ear, after he turns away and then back to Alex the earring is gone.

  • Factual errors: When Major Payne hands Mrs. Walburn the "bullet" from his heart, he actually hands her a shell casing of a bullet. An actual bullet would be smaller and misshapen.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Payne refers to the cadets as "soldiers". A Marine would never make that mistake. Soldier is an Army term.

  • Continuity: Near the beginning of the film, Payne instructs the cadets to do two hours of PT. They are doing so visibly from his window but within seconds, Tiger appears with his teacher at Payne's door.

  • Factual errors: In the scene at the obstacle course, Major Payne pulls the pin from a "live" grenade with his teeth... as anybody in the military can tell you this is impossible to do, not to mention the double safety on a grenade.

  • Factual errors: In the closing credits, the producers thank, among others "Fort Union Military Academy." There exists no such institution. The venerable school's correct name is Fork Union Military Academy.

  • Factual errors: When Dodson trains the cadets in PT, he should have done the following: Called them to attention, gave the order of extended to the left move, arms downward move, left face, another extend to the left, arms downward move, left face, given the command of from front to rear, count off, stand at ease.

  • Factual errors: The cadets should be in Class B attire: army green slacks, black shoes, shirt unbuttoned at the top or with neck tie, and army garrison cap or depending on the time of year, class A which includes all of above with the class A coat rather than wearing their BDU (battle dress uniform). However, it should be noted that many private institutions do not use issue JROTC uniforms, and instead opt to wear a uniform distinctive to their school.

  • Factual errors: They should have been in their PT outfit when doing PT.

  • Factual errors: In the scene where Tiger is leading the Cadets in the drill, he tells the cadets to "Present Arms" and then to march forward ("Forward March"). The only thing you can do from "Present Arms" is "Order arms," which in this case the cadets would be putting their guns back beside them.

  • Factual errors: Major Payne is a Marine Corps officer. However, the cadets are Army JROTC cadets (as evidenced by their unit patches on their BDU uniforms and rank insignia). A Marine officer would be assigned to a Marine Corps JROTC unit, and not an Army one. Army JROTC units are staffed with Army personnel.

  • Factual errors: In the scene where Major Payne is in the night club, he is seen wearing a USMC dress whites uniform. In the Marine Corps, the white dress/mess dress has been obsolete since WWII.
