7 December 2009 8:19 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

This is definitely movie related. Michael Bay is a famous director, and his commercials matter to us. This just happens to be a commercial for a lingerie line filled with beautiful women from parts unknown. But you know, it’s directed by Michael Bay, the director of such Hollywood hits as “Armageddon”, “Transformers”, and “Bad Boys”. So, yes, it’s definitely movie-related. Yeah, that’s the ticket. »

Michael Bay's Victoria's Secret commercial: Where are the giant robots?

7 December 2009 6:50 PM, PST | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Michael Bay has directed a Victoria's Secret commercial. No, that's not the premise for a Saturday Night Live skit involving enormous robots doing battle while wearing sexy lingerie. Bay, the director of slick, explosion-y mega-hits like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and the Transformers films, as well as numerous commercials, brings all the hallmarks of his style to his latest ad for Victoria's Secret. These aren't just shots of beautiful women in undergarments. These are shots of beautiful women in undergarments straddling pool tables, being followed by black helicopters, posing in front of a massive fireball, and, for some odd reason possibly »

Two New Editors for Universal's Wolf Man

18 November 2009 10:34 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Universal's upcoming The Wolfman re-imagining has been bogged down for the past three years by countless production setbacks, constantly changing release dates, a new director, and most recently the loss of their composer Danny Elfman. What else could happen with Wolfman that hasn't already happened? They could bring in two new editors, that's what. The relentless news excavators over at /film dug up this news out of the gutter of a Variety article not even about the movie. It looks like Mark Goldblatt, action editor extraordinaire, and Walter Murch, the man who literally wrote the book on editing, will come on to Joe Johnston's movie and try to clean it up a bit. A Goldblatt/Murch pairing is certainly an interesting one, with Goldblatt working such action pieces as Armageddon, Bad Boys 1 & 2, and both Terminator films, and Murch handling slightly more dramatic pieces like Cold Mountain and The English Patient. »

Join the 'Legion', See the Galaxy

16 November 2009 9:35 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

What to expect from a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced sci-fi film? How about instances of male bonding with giant explosions in the background?

Luckily, it appears the Bad Boys and Pirates of the Caribbean series producer has the perfect property to adapt into such a film: "Alien Legion", based on a comic book published during the '80s by Marvel’s Epic line.

According to USA Today, screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the scribes behind Wanted and the upcoming A-Team, are handling the adaptation. Haas has described "Alien Legion" as "the Creature Cantina (from Star Wars) goes to war," while series creator Carl Potts said the property is as much influenced by war movies as sci-fi.

"Imagine a much grittier Star Trek blended with The Dirty Dozen and Kelly's Heroes," said Potts, adding that, modern special effects being what they are, the breadth of the alien creatures in the comic »

Will Smith Buying Flowers for Algernon?

It wouldn't be Monday without a rumor or two. We kick off today's spinning of the rumor-mill with a story from the folks at Pajiba, who seem to be more than on top of Hollywood lately. According to their "inside source," multi-hyphenate Will Smith is developing an adaptation of the classic Daniel Keyes story Flowers for Algernon, in which he will star as well as produce. For those who missed the fifth grade, Algernon follows the story of Charlie, a mentally handicapped man who is the first human test subject in an experimental surgery that artificially increases intelligence. After seeing his Iq go from 68 to 185 following the surgery, Charlie loses the ability to socialize normally and becomes alienated from those around him. As Charlie begins to learn the truth behind the effects of the surgery -- as seen through the reaction of a mouse test subject named Algernon -- he is struck with the weight of how »

She explained: "After I won 'The X Factor', I went on holiday. Then, when I came back, we went to New York. The deep end. I was on the phone to my management because I didn't even know how to act. What do I say when I meet the producers? Do I say, 'Hello sir?' "And then I started in Jay-z's studio. »
