Filmmaker Sydney Pollack has died at the age of 73. The Oscar-winning director passed away in Los Angeles on Monday after a battle with cancer, his spokeswoman confirmed. Pollack began his career as an actor but turned his attentions to directing with 1965's The Slender Thread. He later directed stars such as Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford in The Way We Were, Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie, Tom Cruise in The Firm and Harrison Ford in Sabrina.
