Parents Guide for
Tommy Boy (1995) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Note: The number at the beginning of each section refers to how explicit that aspect of the film is on a scale of 1-10. The fraction at the end of the Frightening/Intense Scenes category is the total sum of all the sections out of the highest sum possible (50) and therefore an approximation of how much explicit content of any kind is in the film.

Rating: 5

There is a scene where a woman goes night swimming nude. Nothing is graphically shown, but you see her diving into the pool naked and see a breif glimpse of her naked body (hard to see its in motion) and taking her clothes off. David Spade's character watches attentively and it is implied he's about to masturbate (you hear his zipper go and when tommy comes in he rushes under the covers).

A woman gets out of a swimming pool, wearing a very revealing bikini.

Violence & Gore

Rating: 3

Richard punches Tommy multiple times and then hits him really hard with a stick. We later see a big bruise on the side of his face. Mostly for laughs, but still sort of violent.

Profanity

Rating: 4

Several uses of "d*ck" in different forms. Many h***s, d***s, and s***s. A man also says "s**** you" to a group of people.

Two larger men are called a large quantity of ridiculing names.

Rating: 4

College students are seen smoking and drinking. Tommy also appears drunk during the scene.

Richard is seen heavily drunk and confused.

Rating: 2

tommy's father dies and people who have lost someone in their life may find this sad and emotional

An idea of how accurate the TECE (below) is: 5-10 is a little-kid suitable, G-Rated type of film (i.e. Care Bears, Sleeping Beauty); 10-15 is going to be a little harsher, but not by much (i.e. The Incredibles); 15-20 could be pretty high up there (i.e. this), 20-25 is going to pretty darn adult (i.e. The Dark Knight); 25-30 is going to be a film most likely not suitable for anyone under 17(i.e. Braveheart); 30-40 is going to be an absolutely, positively adults-only film (i.e. Saving Private Ryan). 40 and up is pretty much high R / NC-17 (i.e. Pulp Fiction)

Total 18/50
