  • Filmmakers pioneered a new technique that enabled them to film all the interior train scenes (practically all the film) in the studio. Tennis balls glued on the studio walls were used as reference points to allow computers to insert footage of Colorado scenery, even when the camera moved around.

  • During initial test runs for filming of the external scenes, sparks from the locomotives caused flash fires along the railroad. The locomotives had to be modified before filming could begin.

  • The railroad passenger cars where built especially for the movie by the now-defunct Colorado Railcar Company and are still in existence today.

  • The countdown timer blip sound effect on the computer used by Travis Dane (Eric Bogosian) is a blip sound from a Motorola-brand pager.

  • The scene of the destroyed industrial facility in China recycles unused footage from On Deadly Ground (1994) (another Steven Seagal movie). In On Deadly Ground, it's the burning Aegis Oil facility.

  • Julian Sands and Jeff Goldblum were among those who refused the role of Travis Dane.

  • Originally, Jon Peters was slated to be a producer for the movie. He wanted to bring Gary Busey back, but after he was told Busey's character had died in the original and after determining that Busey could not come back, Peters left.

  • Both locomotives are ex-Alaska Railroad GP7s, numbered 1804 and 1812.

  • Travis Dane's catchphrase, "Chance favors the prepared mind," is a quote originally said by Louis Pasteur.

  • GP7 #1810, which was the second locomotive in Under Siege 2, is now owned by the Oregon Pacific Railroad and is stored in Milwaukie, Oregon.

  • In the beginning, when the Grand Continental clerk adds Casey and Sarah Ryback to the passenger manifest, the names of the film's crew members can be seen.

  • As Tom Breaker indicates the monitor with details on Marcus Penn's history to Admiral Bates and Captain Garza he calls him a 'soldier of fortune freak'. Dale Dye, who plays Captain Garza actually worked for Soldier of Fortune magazine in real life.
