Peter Jackson Announces, Hints At Elaborate Blu-Ray Shenanigans

It has been announced that the Lord of the Rings Trilogy is finally arriving on Blu-Ray April 6th. Currently, Peter Jackson’s only film available in the format is 2005’s King Kong. While the Kong Blu-Ray contains both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, these Lord of the Rings Blu-Rays will contain only the theatrical versions.
In a recent radio interview, however, Jackson mentioned additional plans to release some of his ‘earlier films’ on Blu-Ray as well in the near future — a list we can only hope covers everything up to 1996’s The Frighteners.
The Lord of the Rings Blu-Ray set will span 9 discs, with the extra features on Standard-Definition DVDs and Digital Copies thrown into the mix as well. Retail price: $99.98.

Today we at Icons of Fright celebrate the birthday of a genre stalwart, Dee Wallace.
For more than thirty years, Dee has done solid work in genre favorites such as The Howling, Cujo, The Frighteners, The Hills Have Eyes, and Steven Spielberg's E.T., and she's still hard at work, appearing recently in Rob Zombie's Halloween. Though not a top tier name in Hollywood, she's popular among horror fans, who appreciate her work ethic and talent. A convention favorite, Dee always meets fans with a smile, and is more than willing to share stories from her storied career.
On a personal note, I've been going to conventions for 6 years. In that time, I've developed a short list of people I will get every time I see them at a con. Dee has always been at the top of that list, since the first time I met her. She's among the nicest celebrities I've ever met,

There's no denying it. Peter Jackson knows his way around an adaptation. "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was stellar, as we all know. And "King Kong," for all of it's issues, carried with it the spirit of the original. Now he's on to "The Lovely Bones," Alice Sebold's beautiful-yet-disturbing story of a young girl's trip through the afterlife following her murder at the hands of a sadistic serial killer. He had his work cut out for him there. Making that story something an audience can stomach without succumbing to overblown emotion is nigh on impossible.
I suppose that’s why it’s so strange that Jackson came to direct an adaptation of the massively successful novel in the first place. “The Lovely Bones” is a quiet book, a narrative crushed underneath the weight of trauma and loss, it’s only release in the eventual comeuppance visited upon its

If you've never seen Dee Wallace in a film then you probably don't watch movies, because at this moment she has 179 credits to her name as a professional actress, 18 of those projects yet to be released- which led me to first ask her where in the world she found the time to call me for a phone interview yesterday afternoon. She somehow made time for me to ask her a few questions about her career and life in the entertainment industry, and provided some really cool behind the scenes stories to some of the biggest movies ever made.
Dee Wallace has worked with directors like Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Joe Dante, Rob Zombie, and Blake Edwards- there's a reason that prestigious directors like these have called on her time and time again, and if you look at films like The Howling, Cujo, E.T., or The Frighteners , that reason will be clearly evident.

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen.

Greetings Fango Fiends! It's time once again for another installment of Fangoria Musick's Lists Of Doom - the column where we track down some of your favorite (or soon-to-be favorite) bands to get their thoughts on on the world of horror, and which films scare them.
For our 27th feature, we caught up with John Cooper, Lead Vocalist & Bassist of Skillet, the Grammy-nominated band that recently released Awake on Atlantic Records. A certified connoisseur of pop culture with "an irrational love for comic books, Star Wars, and mostly all thing science fiction", it was time for Fango to pick his brain to find out what he digs on the Horror side of life. After all, with a new single and video called "Monster", there had to be something brewing beneath the surface, right?

The Lovely Bones has been a decade-long project: traversing continents; switching directors; growing in budget; Ryan Gosling fired; Mark Wahlberg hired; delayed for almost a year. Alarm bells start to ring. Despite all the rumours and gossip-mongering Peter Jackson’s latest feature has been, rather cynically, held back for “awards season”. In other words, the studio is unsure of how its product is going to play at the box office, so is hoping critical praise might help.
What started off as a Film Four production with Scottish filmmaker Lynne Ramsey has turned into an effects-laden, multi-million dollar behemoth. The trailer hit the internet in August and instantly recalled fellow Kiwi filmmaker Vincent Ward’s “beautiful disaster” What Dreams May Come. The similarities in tone and imagery are striking (dodgy wigs included).
The inexorable rise of Peter Jackson appears utterly incongruous given his origins in low budget splatter-horror. But is it?

Paramount has debuted the first official poster for “The Lovely Bones” directed by Peter Jackson.
“The Lovely Bones” both directed and co-written by Academy Award winning filmmaker Jackson (the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Heavenly Creatures, The Frighteners, King Kong) from the script by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens is an adaptation of best-selling novel by Alice Sebold.
The movie centers on a young girl Susie (Saoirse Ronan) who has been murdered and watches over her family – and her killer – from heaven. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal.
The movie which also stars Mark Wahlberg (Susie’s father), Rachel Weisz (her mother), Susan Sarandon (her grandmother) and Stanley Tucci is scheduled to be released on December 11, 2009.

Paramount has debuted the first official (teaser?) poster for Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones on Yahoo. This highly anticipated adaptation stars Saoirse Ronan, Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, and Stanley Tucci. Now this is a beautiful poster! But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from Peter Jackson. I love the beautiful pastel colors, the lack of floating faces, a simple image with a tree and a girl running. Simple, but effective. I'm still very excited to see this movie, I've got high hopes for it, and I don't expect to be let down. I'm sure we'll see another trailer in the next few months as well. Chicago – Universal is getting an early jump on the annual wave of horror-themed titles that usually hit stores in the week before Halloween with new Blu-Ray editions of three horror-comedy classics and, well, one stinker that surely looks good in HD if nothing else. Add “An American Werewolf in London,” “Army of Darkness,” “Shaun of the Dead,” and “Van Helsing” to your collection.
The “Fall of Fear” promotions actually includes 31 re-promoted titles with Halloween-themed wrap but only four are available on Blu-Ray and were sent for review. But the standard releases include reissues by two of our favorite directors and influential filmmakers in the genre - John Carpenter and Wes Craven.
For Carpenter, repackaged titles include “The Thing,” “Prince of Darkness,” “They Live,” and “Village of the Damned”. Personally, we would suggest picking them up in that order. As for Craven, the titles are “The Serpent and the Rainbow,
