Valerie Bertinelli has found a running partner in fellow actress Bonnie Hunt after convincing the Jerry Maguire star to run a marathon with her next year.
The One Day at a Time actress dropped 50 pounds (22.6 kilograms) to compete in a 13.1-mile (21-kilometre) race in July, crossing the finish line in two hours, 12 minutes and 19 seconds.
Now rocker Eddie Van Halen's ex-wife is ready to go the extra distance and take part in a full marathon - and she's won over Hunt to join her in the challenge.
During an appearance on the Bonnie Hunt Show on Monday, Bertinelli said, "I'm gonna run a marathon next year. I ran a half marathon in July. I did pretty well, so I figured the next goal (is) a whole one."
Hunt praised her for her dedication to her fitness regime before declaring her own interest in shaping up - prompting Bertinelli to sign her up for the marathon.
She warned Hunt, "You have six months to train." »

Actress Bonnie Hunt has helped to raise $120,000 (£80,000) for a Chicago, Illinois medical centre by offering one fan the chance to dine with her.
The Jerry Maguire star agreed to whisk the highest bidder in a hospital charity auction off to Los Angeles to attend a TV taping of The Bonnie Hunt Show before joining Hunt on a dinner date.
The experience sold for thousands when the sale went live earlier this week (begs28Sep09) and Hunt is delighted.
She says, "I went to Chicago and spent some time at the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute.
"We did an auction to fly the winner out to see the Bonnie Hunt Show and I'd have dinner with them. It went for $120,000!" »

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
With Whip It swirling its way into theaters, it’s a wonder no one has fully acknowledged the absolutely amazing athletic work these brave actresses have put into the final product. Let’s face it, not all actors can “bring it” when it comes to believably portraying a real-life athlete.
Truth of the matter is, it’s about as rare a feat as you’re likely to see capably pulled off in Hollywood. Ellen Page (who will more than likely make a later edition of this list) made frantically scuttering around a cylindrical death-track look effortless, even graceful. Hell, the entire cast made roller derby look like the ballet with brute violence. This got me to thinking – Which other Hollywood actors have been the most convincing athletes on the big screen? They deserve their due (to go along with their millions of »

Michael Bay's influence on films is undeniable, but in most cases his influence has inspired others toward comedy. "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone delivered Team America: World Police, which was just as much a visual slam on Jerry Bruckheimer films as it was Bay, and they did it again in an episode of "South Park" (watch here). "Robot Chicken" took their own spin on Bay with "Baysplosions" seen to the right and Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg used the director's flashy editing and often used action choreography to bring us Hot Fuzz. Everyone gets the joke, and it's funny, but what has it done for his public image and people's opinions/expectations of his films? I ask this based on a comment left on my posting of the teaser trailer for the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake where someone wrote, "Michael Bay will be the death of cinema. »

Before we get into the heart of this episode — which was whether or not there's any humanity left in Damon — I just need to say that I have never felt older watching a CW show than when Mr. Tanner, the history teacher, instructed his students to settle the debate he and Stefan were having on the end date of the Korean War and they all pulled out their cellphones to search the Internet. Do high schools no longer have actual textbooks? I envisioned flipping to the index, saying 'h-i-j-k-l' in my head to remember what letters 'k' falls between, running my index finger down and across the page, then finally turning to the correct chapter and skimming. I. Am. So. Old. Now that that's out of the way... let's start by celebrating the fact that Caroline isn't dead, which, for a second, I thought might've been the outcome of that »

This low budget movie was a surprise success when it hit the box office, the first film to sell over a million copies on home video and has earned over $200 million since its release. Dirty Dancing is still as popular, if not more, than it was when it first danced on to our screens in 1987. With Patrick Swayze’s sad death last week it seems it’s been revisited by fans all over the world, and now it’s got another string to add to its bow – the cheesiest movie line ever. We’re sure there’s no need to remind you which line this is, but just in case you’ve forgotten the iconic final scene here it is – “Nobody puts Baby in a corner”.
The poll was conducted by OnePoll.com and asked over 4000 movie fans what they thought the cheesiest line in movie history was. Dirty Dancing »

The parade of moronic movies based on toys continues this week as Universal has picked up the rights to the one and only Barbie after months of negotiation with Mattel. They will turn the popular doll into a live action feature film, with producer Laurence Mark (Dreamgirls, Glitter, Jerry Maguire) heading up the project. Barbie is currently celebrating her 50th anniversary this year, although the movie will clearly not be ready in time to help promote this. You have to wonder, is Universal actually planning on making any of these movies, or are they just buying up brand names so they can sit on them? I fail to see how a Barbie movie makes any sense at all. Then again, they previously did a series of direct-to-dvd animated Barbie movies from Lionsgate, which have apparently sold more than 14 million units [1] as of a few years ago. Hey, if Bratz can make $26 million worldwide, »

Mattel have been busy. As well as the announcement that Columbia are in talks to aquire the rights to Masters of the Universe, Universal have bought the film rights to another Mattel cornerstone – Barbie.
Following months of negotations Universal and Mattel have put a deal in place for a big screen adventure for every girl’s favourite doll. Until now Barbie has seen a string of direct to DVD child hits with Universal releasing films like Barbie – The Island Princess and Barbie – The Magic Of Pegasus. THR has more:
Laurence Mark, whose credits include “Jerry Maguire” and “Julie & Julia,” is producing.
Barbie, celebrating her 50th anniversary as one of the top toy brands in the world, has never been adapted into a live-action film, though not for Hollywood’s lack of trying. Mattel has been extremely protective of the toy, which has generated billions of dollars, wanting nothing to tarnish the polished image. »

A 50-year-old plastic fashion icon, Barbie, is heading to the big screen. Variety reported that after months of negotiations, Universal Pictures has finally acquired the rights to make a live-action feature, "Barbie: The Movie", out of Mattel's signature toy line.
"Barbie is the most famous doll in history, a unique cultural icon in the world of brands," Universal Pictures chairman Marc Shmuger commented on the deal with Mattel. "So many representations of Barbie frequent pop culture, but never before has she been brought to life in a motion picture. We're grateful to Mattel for entrusting us with this extraordinary opportunity."
Producer of "Jerry Maguire" and "Julie & Julia", Laurence Mark, is attached to produce. On what direction the script will take, the filmmaker said that there are a lot of plot possibilities for the movie considering that Barbie's had more than 120 jobs over the years. He added, "Barbie may be the »

Four years ago, a friend of mine came home from Toronto disappointed by the premiere of "Elizabethtown," Cameron Crowe's ill-fated, deeply personal story of a man coming home to bury his father. The director of "Almost Famous" and "Jerry Maguire," Crowe was a true heir to Hal Ashby when it came to making melancholy and emotionally moving mainstream entertainments, yet when his cut of "Elizabethtown" (that was ultimately trimmed down in running time) failed to win over audiences here, it was hard to imagine when someone would attempt tp do so again.
"Up in the Air" will be easy to overpraise -- it touches on larger themes of mass unemployment, cultural alienation and technology as a crutch. But ultimately, it's really an expertly done character study that's a dramatic change of pace from director Jason Reitman's previous two films, "Thank You for Smoking" and "Juno," comedies that led »

Last week's poll was a battle of pigskin pics, and Film Junk readers decided that the #1 football movie is the inspirational Rudy starring Sean Astin, followed very closely by Remember The Titans starring Denzel Washington. Peter Berg's Friday Night Lights placed third, which isn't bad, but I kind of expected it to get a few more votes, especially because of the popularity of the TV show. Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday and the original The Longest Yard rounded out the top 5. Brian's Song was way down at the bottom, although I'm guessing a lot of people simply haven't seen it? I hear it's a classic. Do you concur with these results? 1. Rudy -- 23.5% 2. Remember The Titans -- 21.2% 3. Friday Night Lights -- 14.2% 4. Any Given Sunday -- 13.3% 5. The Longest Yard (1974) -- 7.5% 6. Jerry Maguire -- 6.6% 7. The Program -- 5.8% 8. The Replacements -- 3.1% 9. We Are Marshall -- 2.7% 10. Brian's Song (1971) -- 2.2% For More Daily Movie Goodness, »

A new start. A fresh new start is all it takes.
Like voices brimming inside our souls, adamant to explode out in the open and be revealed for everyone to listen, such instincts can be very alluring, some of the most impulsive whims known to man. Sometimes you let them take over, wake up in the early morning in a Jerry Maguire-like frenzy and witness all that energy spurt out, to then somehow regret it later. Or maybe you make it a sort of real life McGuffin, only there to maintain status quo, like for Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung in Wong Kar-Wai’s 春光乍洩 (Happy Together), not making a single step forward but always living off that wish, that distant chimera in the desert called a new life; a fresh new start. Especially when it comes to artists, such temptations can be very strong, devastatingly so. Think of »
