  • The footage of the car crashing and flipping over has become a Troma trademark and in-joke. It was used again in Tromeo and Juliet (1996) and then as another inside joke (for those who spotted it in all three films) in Terror Firmer (1999).

  • No one was interested in showing the film in the US until around 1996, around when Tromeo and Juliet (1996) was released. This caused confusion as to which movie borrowed the car crash.

  • The film was spun-off from the character Kabuki-Boy in The Toxic Avenger, Part II (1989). Lloyd Kaufman jokingly mentioned he was making a movie about the character and Japanese investors became interested.

  • When Harry Griswald is being yelled at by his Police Chief for wearing a Clown Costume, you can see a poster on the Chief's table saying "WANTED" in huge letters and showing a picture of the directors, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz.

  • Andrew Osborne, one of the screenwriters, named the hero Harry Griswold, after the head janitor at his high school.
