Matthew Hits the Gym but Keeps His Guns Under Wraps

21 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Matthew McConaughey exited the gym in Malibu yesterday sporting his trademark j.k. livin bandanna accompanied by a playful smile. Matthew's mini me Levi has been stealing the spotlight recently from his outings with very pregnant mom Camila to shirtless playtime with his nanny, but Mm's break from the big screen will be over soon. One of Matthew's sexiest parts ever was in A Time to Kill and for one of his upcoming projects he'll be returning to his attorney-role roots and trading in his Airstream for a black car in The Lincoln Lawyer. Weekly Ketchup: Chris Pine May Play Jack Ryan

16 October 2009 9:30 AM, PDT | Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news »

This week's Ketchup includes the expected franchise reboots - both involving espionage types Jack Ryan and Matt Helm - potentially starring Chris Pine and Bradley Cooper, as well as new projects for Will Ferrell (in a serious role, no less), Matthew McConaughey (as an attorney - wait, wasn't that A Time to Kill?), and Clive Owen (being awesome as usual). On the Rotten end of things, just wait until you find out what Hollywood (namely Roland Emmerich and 20th Century Fox) wants to do with Moses and William Shakespeare - suffice it to say they might very well be turning... »

Review: Did you ever see… The Negotiator?

15 October 2009 12:19 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

This week sees the release of Law Abiding Citizen. The story of a man, played by Gerard Butler, who is forced to watch his family murdered. When the District Attorney makes a shady deal with the defendants, Butler takes matters into his own hands.

The director is F. Gary Gray. You may not recognise the name, but he has directed a tense thriller before, again about a man taking justice into his own hands. Starring the then dream partnership of Kevin Spacey and Samuel L. Jackson, let’s take a look at 1998’s The Negotiator.

As so often happens, there were a couple of movies on the same subject released around the same time, namely hostage negotiators. The other in this case was the Eddie Murphy vehicle, 1997’s Metro. Metro wasn’t very good, but ironically turned out to be, barring Bowfinger, his best movie for years to come.

Tommy Lee Jones to Direct 'The Lincoln Lawyer'

14 October 2009 6:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I don't think there's enough Tommy Lee Jones on cinema screens, and I'm not alone in hoping he'd jump right back behind the camera again after his 2005 debut The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. But it looks like he's going back behind the camera, as Variety reports that he's in talks to direct and costar in The Lincoln Lawyer.

At first glance, The Lincoln Lawyer might be a startling choice for Jones' next directing foray because it would appear to be Matthew McConaughey's attempt at a serious makeover. McConaughey is set to play Mickey Haller, a aimless lawyer who works out of the back of his Lincoln, and defends low rent criminals. One shiny day, he ends up with a case defending a Beverly Hills playboy against a murder charge, but it isn't all easy peasy and high paychecks. It's a Michael Connelly book, after all. Look elsewhere for bongo drums and shirtlessness. »

Tommy Lee Jones to Direct Matthew McConaughey in 'Lincoln Lawyer'

14 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Following his critically acclaimed feature-directorial debut, "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," Tommy Lee Jones is ready for his next big gig behind the camera. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actor will direct and co-star in an adaptation of Michael Connelly's best-selling crime novel "The Lincoln Lawyer."

Despite the the title, this is not yet another project involving our 16th President (though it could be a fitting but misleading alternate title for Robert Redford's "The Conspirator"). Instead it's about a criminal defense lawyer (Matthew McConaughey) who works out of his car -- a Lincoln Town Car. Used to representing small time criminals, his career takes a turn when he begins handling the case of a wealthy realtor accused of attempted murder.

Jones' role in the film is unknown, but it's unlikely to be the part of McConaughey's rich client, as the character in the novel is described as much, »

Review: iTunes 99p Rental – Surfer, Dude

7 October 2009 1:28 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Digital copy is the future. Apple certainly think so (well, they have to). To this end, iTunes hopes to slowly introduce their consumers to the ease of movie downloads by offering a rental every week at the ridiculously cheap price of 99p. You couldn’t even buy I Know Who Killed Me on DVD for that.

As usual, this is my review of this week’s selection. I can only assume this weeks choice is an attempt to cash in on Zombieland’s popularity, both films featuring as they do one Woody Harrelson. Let’s take a look at Surfer, Dude! (Yeah, i know. Hey, i didn’t choose it…).

The surfer dude of the title is Steve Addington (Matthew McConaughey). The Tony Hawks of surfing, Addington has just returned from a round the world journey catching the best waves on the planet. He comes back to find all is not well, »

Robert Pattinson, Brad Pitt And More Overnight Sex Symbols

'Twilight' has catapulted RPattz into the stratosphere where he joins some other beefcake breakout stars.

Every now and then, a movie comes out that transforms a male actor into someone to be desired, adored and often watched for decades to come. We're experiencing such a phenomenon now with Robert Pattinson, who has essentially starred in one wide-release movie and had "Twilight" transform him from "Who's that?" to "Hottest Man Alive" overnight.

But where does RPattz go from here? Will he launch a decades-long career? Work with directors like Spielberg and Scorsese? Or will he become another Hollywood cautionary tale? Below are a handful of beefcake breakouts transformed by one major role, whose careers could perhaps give guidance to the Sparkly One.

[DVD Review] Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

24 September 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

False advertising! There are four main reasons I assumed I would love this movie:

1) I’m a fan of the “chick flick.” This just wasn’t a very good chick flick. There weren’t enough laughs, cute moments that you wish your boyfriend would replicate, or the gooey moments where my heart usually melts.

2) Jennifer Garner. I’m not a huge fan of her in general, but I figured she would be good in this movie for her looks alone, but her looks didn’t save the movie this time. I’d rather re-watch 13 Going on 30.

3) Matthew McConaughey. While I still love him for being so darn attractive (my cousin and her friends call him “Matthew McCona-hottie), he really needs to stop playing the exact same character. While leading men tend to play similar characters, his are almost exactly the same.

4) The title.

Welcome The Robot Apocalypse With Our ‘Terminator: Salvation’ Reading List!

21 May 2009 7:23 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

The original “Terminator” movie instantly became a classic. Years later, “Terminator: Salvation” is the fourth movie in the franchise — but before it even went into production there had already been dozens of stories from the “Terminator” universe told in comics and novels.

From crossovers with robots, aliens and superheroes to standalone tales that advanced the “Terminator” mythology, here are some interesting (and in some cases, bizarre) stories you might want to check out as a new robot apocalypse kicks off in theaters.

Terminator Vs. Robocop (Dark Horse Comics): One is a cop who died in the line of duty and was rebuilt to serve humanity. The other is a machine built to infiltrate the human race and destroy it from within.

It seems natural these two ’80s film icons would eventually clash, and this comic book miniseries delivered a battle some fans still want to see translated onto the big screen. »

Movie News Wrap Up: April 6, 2009

This week:

The box office is Furious; Jack Bauer leaves 24 for Joel Schumacher’s Twelve; Paul Weitz looks at Little Fockers; Rosemarie DeWitt and Chris Cooper are Company Men; Aaron Eckhart and Nicole Kidman stare into the Rabbit Hole; we make a date for Sex and The City 2 and Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg are Prisoners.

Box office

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker raced into the number one position with Fast and Furious. The action sequel banked a massive $72 million over the weekend - showing that there is plenty of gas left in the Fast and Furious franchise. Maybe Vin Diesel will get those Riddick movies made after all.

Monster vs. Aliens dropped to second place but it still managed to gross $33 million giving the animated film a gross of over $100 million.

The Haunting in Connecticut took another $9.6 million bringing the total gross to a pretty decent $37 million.

Nicolas Cage’s hair banked another $8 million, »

Levi Can't Quite Contain His Pear Excitement From Dad Mm

Levi McConaughey looked in awe of his pear out shopping in Malibu with Matthew yesterday. The healthy yummy snack is just the kind of thing we expect from the down-to-earth father. Lucky Levi picked up some goodies at Babies 'R' Us during their boys' day out. Mm just signed on to play a lawyer on the big screen again - hearkening back to his hottest A Time To Kill days? Yes, please. Though most of you prefer him in comedic roles, there's something extra special about seeing him play doting dad. View 10 Photos › To see more of Mm and Levi just read more. McConaughey Heads Back To The Courtroom

30 March 2009 4:07 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I've gotten so used to Matthew McConaughey banking on his charm and good looks, that I frequently forget I enjoyed the actor in the first role I saw him in - the adaptation of John Grisham's legal drama, A Time To Kill. Not that McConaughey didn't take advantage of his charisma for the movie, but I did like the movie, and I'm not usually a fan of legal dramas. McConaughey is returning to the courtroom in a movie adapted from Michael Connolly's best selling novel, The Lincoln Lawyer. According to Variety, the movie will see McConaughey play a low-level criminal defense attorney who winds up representing a wealthy client with ties to one of his previous cases. The Lincoln Lawyer is one of those cases where I have to question the demand for a movie adaptation, since the movie deal was set into motion months before the book »

This week:

Monsters Vs Aliens tops the box office; the Coens remake John Wayne’s True Grit; Val Kilmer talks up a reteam with Robert Downey Jr; Matthew McConaughey is The Lincoln Lawyer; Tobey Maguire knows The Limit; Ben Affleck and Matt Damon hunt for Good Will after Bourne again and Affleck hits The Town.

Box Office

Monsters Vs Aliens was the big winner this weekend with a powerful gross of $58 million. It’s the best opening gross of a movie this year (beating Watchmen). Also, horror isn’t dead with The Haunting in Connecticut scaring up $23 million in ticket sales.

Nicolas Cage’s Knowing dropped a decent 40% with a weekend take of almost $15 million giving the action flick a total gross of $46 million - despite bad reviews.

I Love You, Man managed another $12,7 million, while the Julia Roberts- Clive Owen heist movie Duplicity banked another $7.5 million for a $25 million total. »

Matthew McConaughey Set for Lincoln Lawyer

29 March 2009 10:15 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Matthew McConaughey is taking a break from the romantic comedies and returning to the court room. According to the trades, McConaughey has signed on to star in The Lincoln Lawyer, an adaptation of the Michael Connolly best-seller that Lakeshore Entertainment is developing. The legal thriller centers on low-level criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller (McConaughey) who finds himself representing a wealthy client with ties to a previous murder case Haller handled. Lakeshore acquired the big screen rights to the novel six months before it hit shelves in 2005. McConaughey played a lawyer in 1996’s A Time to Kill. The John Grisham adaptation also starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Oliver Platt, Ashley Judd, Kevin Spacey and Kiefer & Donald Sutherland. McConaughey, who most recently played a supporting role in the Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder, will next be seen opposite Jennifer Garner in the romantic comedy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, which opens in May. »

McConaughey Is The Lincoln Lawyer

29 March 2009 6:08 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Matthew McConaughey has signed on for the movie adaptation of legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer, which should give most of you flashbacks to his big break, A Time To Kill, as he returns to the legal profession. This time he'll play low-level criminal defence attorney Mickey Haller, a "Lincoln lawyer" so-called because he is so low on the ladder that he essentially works out of his car. Haller is a tarnished example of the breed, who knows just how to manipulate the system and who to give a backhander too. His luck appears to be changing when he lands a wealthy client, who even appears to be innocent. But the case soon switches, and Mickey finds his life soon in as much danger as his reputation. It's based on the book by Michael Connelly, so while the premise may sound Grisham-esque, it's really not in the details. Still, it sounds »

Back To The Law For Matthew McConaughey

29 March 2009 11:22 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When I read today's Variety headline about Matthew McConaughey's next project, I was briefly terrified that Steven Spielberg had ditched Liam Neeson and cast McConaughey instead in the lead role of his Abraham Lincoln biopic. Happily for all of us, that's not remotely true, even though McConaughey will be playing a lawyer somehow inspired by our 16th President. The movie, The Lincoln Lawyer, will feature McConaughey as a defense attorney who represents a client with ties to a previous murder case the lawyer was involved in. It's based on a book by Michael Connolly, published in 2005, and original snapped up by Lakeshore Entertainment six months before the book even came out. Maybe they wanted to wait until we were all incessantly talking about Lincoln before putting the movie out there? It's worth remembering that one of McConaughey's most notable roles was in a legal-themed drama, A Time To Kill. »

Bitch and Complain Friday: Matthew McConaughey

13 February 2009 12:46 PM, PST | MovieBlog.Ugo.com | See recent Ugo MovieBlog news »

Goddammit, Matthew McConaughey. As if your last name name wasn’t annoying enough to spell, you have to keep making terrible career decisions. Can’t you just go on record and state for the good and welfare of the movie business that you will never make another actual movie ever again? That’s it - from now on, no real scripts. You will only devote your stoned-bongo energies to making the puerile nonsense that have come to be known as Romantic Comedies. Fool’s Gold? Failure to Launch? How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days? The Wedding Planner? Kill yourself. Here’s the one sheet from your newest travesty, The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past . These boring, formulaic pieces of garbage are consumed by the chocolate-eating unoriginal masses who are so ineptly obsessed with the concept of their own failed relationships, that they actually enjoy watching parabolically more beautiful people act »

Prisoner Star Patrick McGoohan Dies

14 January 2009 12:06 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

2009 brings its first cinematic and television casualty. Patrick McGoohan of The Prisoner and Danger Man fame has passed away at the age of 80 years old.

McGoohan died following a short illness at his Los Angeles home.

In the 1960’s Patrick McGoohan starred as John Drake in Danger Man, and then as Number 6 in Danger Man’s unofficial spin-off The Prisoner, a surreal but iconic show that has gone down in cult-legend despite only lasting seventeen episodes. The success of Danger Man and The Prisoner led to McGoohan being offered the role of James Bond, however the actor turned down the offer, refusing to be typecast in spy roles.

An Emmy and Bafta award-winner, McGoohan starred in several Columbo episodes between the mid-70’s and late 90’s, and Peter Falk recently stated that the British actor was his favorite co-star in the detective series.

In recent years, McGoohan played small but »
