Every year, baseball fans sweat through months of America's favorite pastime anticipating a national champion. It's not a mania exclusive to mere mortals either, as comic book characters aplenty have expressed their unique love of the game throughout the history of the medium.
This is no surprise, really, given the abundant portion of comic book creators who boogie to the baseball beat. Everyone from contemporary Marvelites Joe Quesada and writer Matt Fraction to baseball-collecting Spawn creator Todd McFarlane to classic creators like the late Gardner Fox (who named DC's premier super team the Justice League after professional baseball's organizational stylings) have demonstrated just how deep their love of the game runs.
With that in mind, it's time to take a wacky trip through the magical, slightly out-of-context baseball imagery selected from around the Internet!
Baseball gets a major endorsement from not only Superman, but also Batman and Robin »

Hollywood loves Akiva Goldsman. No surprise. He's a geek at heart, and these days geeks make money. He's able to marry that sensibility with an approach that brings in adult audiences (The Da Vinci Code) and even wins awards (A Beautiful Mind). And yet a lot of us have a real mistrust of the writer, not even thanks to his credit on the execrable Batman and Robin, but for being the driving force behind turds like I Am Legend and I, Robot. Now Goldsman is ready to move into his next venture, directing, and he's got a project in mind, and a few big comic book properties already on his plate. Winter's Tale, the novel by Mark Helprin, is the story Goldsman is eyeing to direct. The La Times reports that the 1983 novel set in an alternate New York is the writer/producer's favorite novel. Winter's Tale has a strange »

When Alicia Silverstone dropped by MTV HQ recently to talk about her new book "The Kind Diet," you can probably guess what topic was at the top of my list for Splash Page. Yes, I made sure to slip in a few questions about 1997's "Batman and Robin"—widely regarded as the film that killed the last Batman movie franchise.
Filmed at the height of Silverstone's popularity, "Batman and Robin" featured George Clooney as Bruce Wayne, and in the following video, the actress weighs in with some of her fond memories of the film—including Clooney's attempt to offer her "advice" about handling her fame. Silverstone also tells MTV News whether she realized the effect the film would have on fans while she was making it.
"There was all kinds of craziness," said Silverstone of the period of her life when "Batman and Robin" filmed. "I was really famous at »

International Creative Management (Icm) has started zeroing in on the comic industry’s more notable assets, with the announcement of signing writer Grant Morrison. Being one of the world’s largest talent and literary agencies, Icm already boasts an impressive list of clients such as actors Jodie Foster and Al Pacino, director Woody Allen, television personality Ellen DeGeneres, author Patricia Cornwell and musician Beyoncé, to name a few.
As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, Morrison has 20 years under his belt, penning fan-favorite works like Jla, X-Men, Doom Patrol and the current Batman and Robin. The spotlight has shined on him even more lately thanks to his ‘Batman: R.I.P.’ and Final Crisis projects, and the gaming world got a dose of Morrison thanks to his classic Arkham Asylum: A Serious Place On Serious Earth graphic novel that became the inspiration for the hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum. »

I'm not sure what sparked the wave of "Doctor Who" thoughts on Twitter today, but both James Robinson and Eric Trautman got a bad taste in their mouths, and Tom Brevoort had nothing but praise for the show's new logo.
Elsewhere, Lee Grabett posted a peek at his rendition of Batman and Robin from "Batgirl" #5, which is starting to verge on Frank Quitely. You can read what they all had to tweet below while you also find out what excites Brian Michael Bendis about Baltimore, which tweets lost a few followers for Marc Bernardin and what Geoff Johns thinks of Francis Manapul's Flash.
It's all in the Twitter Report for October 8, 2009.

Many films come out every year with critics and fans alike, compiling lists of their bests and worsts. There are also many films that fall between the cracks, only to be discovered years later. Many critics believe that one of the best years in cinema was 1939, when Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz were released alongside many other classic gems.
Personally, I’ve always felt that 1999 was an epic year for movies, providing us with so many interesting films. In fact, 1999 was such a good year for movies that even some of the bad ones are still worth watching!
So, please sit back and put your memory caps on as Screen Rant takes on a retrospective of 1999 in the world of film.
In 1999, the world was a very different place. We were on the cusp of a new millennium and 9/11 was something that nobody - not even »

by Nuzhat Naoreen, the intern (not the celebrity)
As an MTV intern you get to see a lot of things, but today, I didn't just get to see something...I got to experience it. Today, I was a celebrity.
The whole thing came about somewhat unexpectedly, when my fellow interns and I received an e-mail requesting our attendance at a roundtable discussion on new media -- digital abuse, texting, Facebooking, cyber bullying etc. -- hosted by Joel Schumacher. That's right Joel Schumacher, you know, the guy who directed "Batman & Robin" and "The Lost Boys"? It was already kind of a big deal.
We didn't have much information beforehand, except that the shoot was for a pro-social video. For all I knew, I was going to sit in an audience and watch a discussion, just another nameless face in the crowd.
As I prepared to head downstairs, I was told that »

He will pencil issues #10-12, after Cameron Stewart (Seaguy, Seven Soldiers of Victory) completes his own three-issue run on the title. To go from directing major tentpole films and discovering real new talent to having your movie unceremoniously dumped in dollar theatres isn't a fate I would wish on many filmmakers. Joel Schumacher might be an exception. For some reason I watched about ten minutes of Batman and Robin the other night, which served to remind me of just how truly terrible a superhero film can be. (Or any film, for that matter.) With that stench still in my nostrils, I should cackle at Schumacher's current fate. But I can't do it, at least not before catching his new movie Blood Creek to see if it is just as bad. The Bloodshot Eye (via Shock Till You Drop) reports that Blood Creek, once simply titled Creek, is being tossed into a handful of budget theaters in Memphis, Dallas, Orlando and other middle markets. It opens today, Friday September 18. There's no mention »

Happy Wednesday! This week there is a great mix and mash of comics, and we hope you’ll at least give a look at a few of these. First off: ever wonder what it would be like if the writer/artist of The Dark Knight Returns teams with the artist of Watchmen? Now you’ll know this week as Frank Miller and Dave Gibbons team up for The Life and Times of Martha Washington in the 21st century. The thing is Pricey though, so at keep an eye out for a cheaper version when it hits stands.
From DC Comics this week, we have Philip Tan replacing Frank Quitely on Batman and Robin. Its worth getting to see the difference. There’s a Quitely cover at least. The good news is that Grant Morrison’s collaborator on Seaguy Cameron Stewart will be joining the team following Tan. Fortunately, Quitely is »

Brett Ratner returns to the Twitter Report today. I like to think of myself as your comics-oriented Tweet jockey (Tj, if you will), and since he's been posting adamantly about his comics interests this week, I wanted to put a follow-up to his tweet yesterday at the top of today's report.
Apparently, Ratner owns one of the holy grails for comics collectors and as well as a lot of "Youngblood," which he'll be adapting to film.
Meanwhile, Cameron Stewart tweeted his excitement about reforming the "Seaguy" team by joining Grant Morrison on "Batman and Robin", Bryan Lee O'Malley mourned the ending to John Allison's long-running webcomic "Scary Go Round," and Gail Simone contemplated a move into video game development.
Check it all out in the Twitter Report for September 11, 2009.

Kevin Smith just completed a 24-hour tweet-a-thon that puts the Twitter commitment of other directors and comics writers to shame. Since yesterday, Smith has been responding to questions about everything from Archie and Veronica to Batman and Robin and Orson Welles. I've pulled out a few highlights below.
Elsewhere, Jock tweeted some kind words about "Judge Dredd" screenwriter Alex Garland, whose script the "Losers" artist is currently developing visuals for. Check out what he had to say below along with Lee Garbett's new Batgirl design and Andy Diggle's possible job in India.
