Review: Did you ever see… Assassins?

22 October 2009 1:11 PM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Cirque de Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant is unearthed this week. John C Reilly stars as a vampire who performs at the Cirque Du Freak. He meets a young boy, and agrees to take him on as an apprentice.

The screenplay is written by Brian Helgeland. I recognised the name, so i looked up his filmography. It turns out he has written the screenplay’s of many films, including La Confidential, Conspiracy Theory and Payback, having also directed the latter. And along with the Wachowski brothers (The Matrix), he has a screenplay credit for a personal favourite of mine. So join me as i look back at Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas, as they play Assassins.

I knew nothing of Assassins myself when it was released in 1995. It was only a couple of years later that i spotted it on video, intrigued by this movie i’d never heard of. »

'True Blood' Conspiracy Theory

7 September 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news »

True Blood sure has a lot of mysteries to unravel, whether it's about vampires, shape shifters, maenads or whatever the hell Sookie is. But there's another mystery that came to my attention as I went through your comments in my article last week. BuddyTV reader Dogdogdog particularly caught my interest when she posted, "i got a question that will make you all think some more... how did the queen know about sookie and bill never mentioned her... and bill never ask the queen how did she know about her... its a set up i think...that queen and bill is plotting something."

New of Michael Jackson’s cause of death broke earlier today, with the La County Coroner ruling his death a homicide. They reportedly found a fatal combination of drugs, including propofol, in Michael’s system, and say it was administered to him just hours before his death. But one person doesn’t believe Michael’s death was truly a homicide, and it’s his sister La Toya Jackson. A source close to the Jackson family tells Access Hollywood, “La Toya knew it the second she heard he was dead. [Michael] had been telling her for the longest [time] that they... »

Upfronts Day Four: Some Cable Stuff

21 May 2009 6:59 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

On the heels of the broadcast network’s fall announcements comes the never-ending trickle of cable commitments. As is their wont, many of these shows will debut in the summer months (like, June) when broadcast network series are on hiatus.

TNT will be showing us a hospital series starring Jada Pinkett Smith called Hawthorne, Jerry Bruckheimer’s got a cop show called Dark Blue that stars Dylan McDermott, Mark Burnett’s got a new reality series called Wedding Day, and this December a series with an impressive pedigree called Men of a Certain Age starring Ray Romano, Andre Braugher and Scott Bakula.

truTV has a bunch of “reality” shows that fit square into their format: a behind the scenes show called NFL Full Contact– the sort we used to call a “documentary,” Conspiracy Theory with Governor Jesse Ventura, U.S. Special Ops: Declassified – a program that outs our nation’s terrorist hunters, »

Prince of Persia Footage Sparks Conspiracy Theory. Today in Film Bloggery 05/11/09

11 May 2009 3:57 PM, PDT | Spout.com | See recent Spout news »

Footage of next summer's video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has popped up online, and with it has popped up some minor controversy. Apparently, viewers are speculating that Jake Gyllenhaal's abdominal muscles, seen prominently in at least one shot, are not actually his own. Because this footage is from the set and not from some post-production house, it can't be an airbrush job, but it might be a prosthetic plate covering up his own less-toned abs. The "conspiracy" theory originates with commenters at Towleroad and was brought to ... »

SXSW 2009: Moon and New World Order

14 March 2009 11:11 AM, PDT | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

I suppose you never appreciate your hometown as much as when out-of-towners spout out about its greatness. That's the way it is in Austin. I Do live in the best city on earth. Especially during SXSW!

MoonThis film has two things going for it before it even begins. 1) Its star, Sam Rockwell, is a talented, sometimes underrated, actor, and 2) it's a sci-fi flick, full of cool shots of moon rovers with the big, blue earth in the background, talking computers, life endangerment and extraterrestrial mysteries.

Sometime in the future, Sam Bell (Rockwell) is just finishing up a three-year contract for a mining operation on the moon. Alone. Or so it seems. After recovering from an injury, the result of an apparent hallucination, Sam encounters another man on the moon: himself. Is one of them an hallucination? A clone? Is this Hal-esque computer (called Gertie here with voice work by Kevin Spacey »

Roberts Learned From Her Leading Men

20 February 2009 5:25 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Julia Roberts is grateful to have shared screen time with prank-loving actors Richard Gere and Mel Gibson - because their onset antics gave her early insight into the male psyche.

Roberts was in her twenties when she first appeared alongside Gere in 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman, and with Gibson in their 1997 film Conspiracy Theory.

And the movie star, who is now married to cameraman Danny Moder, admits that developing a platonic bond with the leading men helped her gain confidence around the opposite sex.

She tells Allure magazine, "Early on, I worked with Richard Gere and Denzel (Washington) and Dennis Quaid and Mel Gibson, and all these profoundly smart, handsome guys. I was lucky enough to be part of their lives and become friends with them, and it is interesting to understand a solid perspective of the male psyche as a person who's non-threatening to that guy. Men are so revealing when they're not trying to woo you, when you're not intimidated or being flirty, when you're just interested." »
