"I feel like I just went to my own funeral. And I didn't like the eulogy." Throughout its two and a half season run so far, Mad Men has been positively overflowing with shocking, memorable, and sensational moments but the scene in this week's episode of Mad Men ("A Guy Walks into an Advertising Agency") has managed to walk away with one of the most gasp-inducing scenes ever glimpsed on the period drama. Yes, I'm talking about that foot. This week's stunning installment, written by Robin Veith and Matthew Weiner and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, was notable for several reasons beyond the morbidly hysterical bloodbath at Sterling Cooper. Centering as it did on the upcoming Independence Day holiday, the installment revolved around several story strands: Joan's departure from Sterling Cooper as she awaits the news about Greg's residency, Sally's inability to let go of her grandfather even as she »

Megan Fox sat down with MTV to talk about her upcoming movie "Passion Play," which is a drama that also stars Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and is about an angel under the thumb of a ruthless gangster, who is saved by a trumpet player down on his luck. "I'm doing a movie called 'Passion Play' with Mickey Rourke," she said. "There is a love story there, it's clearly not going to be a typical one. My character is basically a circus freak, she lives in a cage and she has wings. She's not an angel, but she has these giant wings that grow out of her back. She's a freak and she's on display." The new movie is written and directed by Mitch Glazer, who is making his helming debut. Glazer previously provided scripts for such films as "Scrooged," "Great Expectations" and "The Recruit." »

Maverick producer Stephen Woolley has been a staple of British cinema for the last 20 years, whether it be B-type cult classics (Hardware), indie phenomenons (The Crying Game) or downright big-budget spectacles (Interview With The Vampire). His next project will be uinsg a word that has also been around much the last 2 decades, maybe too much - Re-imagining. Woolley is prepping a new feature film version of the classic Dickens tale Great Expectations, but that one with a dark and creepy... »

Chicago -- Somewhere in Chicago on Friday night, hopefully dry and warm, you can bet that Perry Farrell was grinning ear-to-ear. Despite a persistent all-day rain that turned the massive Lollapalooza fairground along the Chicago waterfront into a slippery mudbog worthy of Woodstock, the musical mash-up spirit that the festival's co-founder has been chasing for nearly 20 years made a strong showing.
As the rain finally let up in time for the headliners to take the stage, on the north end, the battling band of brothers (and cousin) Kings Of Leon were making the most of their third go-round at the fest, pumping out their muscular Southern boogie to an adoring sea of fans. »

All lists of the "greatest" movies are propaganda. They have no deeper significance. It is useless to debate them. Even more useless to quarrel with their ordering of titles: Why is this film #11 and that one only #31? The most interesting lists are those by one person: What are Scorsese's favorites, or Herzog's? The least interesting are those by large-scale voting, for example by IMDb or movie magazines. The most respected poll, the only one I participate in, is the vote taken every 10 years by Sight & Sound, the British film magazine, which asks a large number of filmmakers, writers, critics, scholars, archivists and film festival directors.
1. The Night of the Hunter, 1955
That one at least has taken on a canonical aspect. The list evolves slowly. Keaton rises, Chaplin falls. It is eventually decided that "Vertigo" is Hitchcock's finest film. Ozu cracks the top ten. Every ten years the net is thrown out again. »

Jessica Simpson didn't make it to producer Billy Clark's birthday in Los Angeles on Saturday - but that doesn't mean she didn't have any fun this weekend. The singer, 29, joined her close girlfriends CaCee Cobb, Adrienne Sands and stylist Nicole Chavez for a good old-fashioned girls' night on Saturday. "Love my ladies!!!" Simpson posted on her Twitter account during the night along with a group photo. "Wish I could be with them everyday of my life. Laughter is wonderful :)" The next day, Simpson spent the evening with another one of her favorite ladies: Her mother. While watching the movie Great Expectations together, »

When I heard the news that Robert Pattinson is going to star in Bel Ami, I was shocked! I thought he's doing porno! You see, 'Bel Ami' when you do a google search will not show you the book by Guy de Maupassant - a popular author in my High School - but a gay porno film production company located in the Czech Republic. Don't bother looking at their site, you need to register and become a member to see the nude pics! Let me leave it at that!

Last night I was invited by The Script Factory to attend a special screening of ‘Rudo y Cursi’, followed by a Q&A with the film’s makers. ‘Rudo y Cursi’ is the directoral debut of ‘Y tu mamá también’ scribe Carlos Cuarón. It is also the first first film to be unveiled by the new Mexican production powerhouse, Cha Cha Cha Films. It’s a new company but the names of the three founders might ring some bells somewhere in the deep recesses of your mind: Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, and Alejandro González Iñárittu! The film also happens to star the two most iconic faces of the Mexican New Wave, Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna. There is no equivalent to this film anywhere in the canons of cinema. It is the Mexican equivalent of Coppolla, Peckinpah, and Scorcese teaming up to produce the directorial debut of Robert Towne, »

This is an awkward week, as I was fully expecting to write an X-Men Origins: Wolverine piece today. But sometimes you need to jump the gun, and I wrote up my berserker "review" for Friday instead. So now it's time to just take a deep breath and think out loud about the meaning of it all.
Perhaps it's a sign that I'm still relatively new to this crazy world of Internet movie news, but I don't think I've seen so much anger and annoyance surrounding a "geek" film as I have in these days post-Wolverine. (I'm sure there must have been similar feelings for Daredevil or Hulk, though.) The emotions were high around Watchmen, but I think a lot of minds were made up before they even sat down in the theater, so their emotions were slightly blunted. I may have passed out and missed the operatic height of it, »

Thanks to an award-winning performance in last year’s The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke suddenly has no shortage of film roles to choose from. Rourke recently wrapped principal photography on 13 with Jason Statham and is rumored to be attached to several high-profile films, including Sin City 2, Iron Man 2 and Rambo V.
In his latest project, Passion Plays, Rourke plays a down-on-his-luck musician who attempts to save an angel (Megan Fox) from gangsters. Mitch Glazer, the screenwriter of Great Expectations and The Recruit, and a personal friend of Rourke’s dating back to their time at Miami Beach High School together, is writing and directing the film.
Megan Fox’s star is also on the rise. In addition to Transformers 2, Megan Fox, has been attached to star in two other upcoming genre pictures: Jonah Hex, a Western starring Josh Brolin adapted from the classic DC Comics series of the same name; and, »

From the misty opening on the Essex marshes to the bittersweet denouement of Dickens' compelling story, Clwyd Theatr Cymru's new musical adaptation of Great Expectations charms, delights and grips its audience throughout. Faithfully yet innovatively adapted and directed by Tim Baker, cleverly enhanced by Mark Bailey's design and seamlessly woven together by a tuneful and atmospheric score of music and songs by Dyfan Jones, the production currently playing at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre during a nationwide tour is a truly thrilling theatrical experience. »

Let the comeback continue! Mickey Rourke may have lost at the Oscars, but that doesn't mean he's getting out of the ring. The actor has signed on for a mysterious dramatic project which, it is rumored, will require him to do some more of that serious acting. Unfortunately the contents of the script, written by Mitch Glazer, are being kept from the press. This is the first serious dramatic role that Rourke has signed on to do since embarking on the awards circuit for his role in The Wrestler. It's hard to predict from Glazer's resume (which includes Scrooged and Great Expectations) which type of film this will be, but here's hoping it is nearly as moving as The Wrestler. Sources say that producers are searching for a female counterpart to Rourke's role, as we speak. Apparently Rourke has not been having trouble getting parts; THR reports that the Oscar »

David Lean is best known for his epic late-period historical dramas exploring the psychological contradictions of outsized figures, like Lawrence Of Arabia, The Bridge On The River Kwai, and Doctor Zhivago. But his directorial career began with eminently British literary adaptations filmed on a smaller scale—Noël Coward’s This Happy Breed, Brief Encounter, and Blithe Spirit; Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist and Great Expectations; and an adaptation of Harold Brighouse’s perennially popular theatrical comedy Hobson’s Choice. Released in 1954, Hobson’s Choice is the last of Lean’s black-and-white films; the following year, he directed Summertime (also ... »

Life is imitating art for Worst Week star Erinn Hayes — hopefully not too much though. Hayes is pregnant on the show and in real life, but unlike her character, Mel, the actress doesn't have to worry about an accident-prone husband wreaking havoc everywhere he goes, especially not when a baby is about to be born. On the eve of Worst Week's finale — in which, yes, Mel does give birth — Hayes chatted with TVGuide.com about what mishaps to expect from Sam (Kyle Bornheimer), why she wants to get in on the stunt work and how she perfectly timed her on- and off-screen pregnancies. Worst Week airs Mondays at 9:30 pm/Et on CBS.
TVGuide.com: I understand Sam goes to the wrong hospital when you're in labor, but that can't be the only thing that goes wrong.
Erinn Hayes: No, that is not the only thing! The episode »
