Peter W. Simeon (19981213):
This DVD is very disappointing, because it has many noticeable compression artifacts and the sharpness is over enhanced. Since Paramount stopped releasing anamorphic DVDs, most of their titles will probably look better on laserdisc, when played on a good laserdisc player. However, for Sliding Doors (1998) they chose to NOT include the 5.1 channel mix on the laserdisc, which means there is no really satisfying version at all. The 5.1 channel mix makes not much use of the surround channels, though, so the laserdisc might be a better deal nevertheless. I wonder if they are trying to move people over to DVD sooner, by releasing inferior laserdisc versions. This is certainly not the way to go. All they need to do is releasing new titles in the same good quality as the _Star Trek: First Contact (1997)_ DVD.
