I watch as many mountaineering movies I can get hold of, even though the quality is usually somewhat lacking in this genre. Now it is several months since I saw this film. What I remember most vividly is the strongly racist portrait of the Nepalese in this movie. Despite being paid to be guides, they behave extremely stupid and have to be rescued by their employers. Well, actually one of them succumbs to the cold just because the others refuse to provide him with warm clothing up on the glaciers to make him tougher. The storyline is not more exciting than your normal trek to the supermarket to fetch soft drinks or snacks. If you like seeing a story about colonial values - "dirty stupid natives" being shown how to behave generously and humanely by their moral superiors, i.e. the American couple - this is something for you. Otherwise, this film will leave a bad taste in your mouth.
