You have heard the tale about the prince who was turned into a frog in order to learn a lesson -- and his only ticket to freedom was a kiss from a princess. Well, Walt Disney has put their own spin on the classic tale and on December 11th, The Princess and the Frog (2009) will open nationwide. In true Disney fashion, expect a beautiful story about love and redemption with state of the art graphics and a majestic score. From the creators of The Little Mermaid (1989) and Aladdin (1992) comes a thrilling tales of two individuals seeking redemption through the streets of New Orleans. When Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos) is turned into a frog, he tries to convince Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose) to kiss him to break the spell. When she does kiss the frog, instead of Prince Naveen turning back into a human, Princess Tiana is turned into a frog. »

Edgar Wright's "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" may be inheriting an entirely unexpected fanbase, according to an exchange today between creator Bryan Lee O'Malley and "New Moon" actress Anna Kendrick. Apparently O'Malley has seen his comic creation cited repeatedly with Kendrick's name attached more prominently than both his and Wright's.
One of the largest showings of single-topic tweets I've seen in Twitter-Wood since the death of Michael Jackson occurred yesterday afternoon with the appearance of a rainbow over Los Angeles. In the face of a week that's been dominated by Tiger Woods gossip, this was probably a welcome shift. New problems seem to have appeared, meanwhile, for John Stamos, who let his publicist step in and tweet a statement today following an extortion investigation. As any Twitter-Wood followers know, Stamos loves taking pictures with his fans, and it sounds like someone tried to blackmail Stamos with such images for unknown reasons. »

The Academy has decided to extend the shortlist for next year's best picture Oscar from five to 10 films. Is that a good idea? We can't quite decide…
It has to be a bad idea, doesn't it?
Ten best picture nominations in the Oscars instead of five? It's a cynical move by the Academy to boost viewing figures by opening the field to crowd-pleasers such as The Dark Knight, the exclusion of which last year caused fanboy outrage. The Oscars aren't exactly the gold standard where quality is concerned, but they remain the most important fixture in the movie calendar and the nomination process is not to be treated lightly. Now the list will be swamped with button-pressing blockbusters such as Avatar and Star Trek, which may deserve their box-office receipts but absolutely should not be honoured alongside the all-time greats: All About Eve! Lawrence of Arabia! The Godfather!

If you noticed an abnormal amount of red in your Twitter feed today, it's because much of the Twitterverse and Twitter-Wood population was observing World AIDS Day. Russell Brand, Paris Hilton, Virginia Madsen and Ashton Kutcher were among those tweeting for awareness -- though Brand predictably did so with lighter sensibilities.
In other tweetage, Rainn Wilson has officially attempted to sooth any offense John Cusack might have taken from a comment he made about "2012." Check out the exchange after the jump along with the "New Moon" wolf pack as you've never seen them before, an epic Stanley Kubrick book and Diablo Cody's kitty litter smell problems. Disney announced that they would be getting in the prime-time holiday special game back in May with "Prep and Landing." But fans awaiting the half-hour special will have to wait another week. President Obama's Tuesday night speech at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY means its pre-empted for another week.
Originally scheduled to air Tuesday, December 1st, "Disney's Prep and Landing" will now premiere on Tuesday, December 8th at 8:30pm Et/Pt on ABC. The special will also air on ABC Family on Friday, December 18th as part of the network's "25 Days of Christmas."
"Prep and Landing" is executive produced by John Lasseter, who directed "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2," and features the voice-work of Dave Foley ("A Bug's Life"), Derek Richardson, and Sarah Chalke (ABC's "Scrubs"). In the special, two elves are sent on special missions to prepare houses for Santa's visits.

Tiger Woods was a hot topic on Twitter this weekend, and that meant he became a trending topic in Twitter-Wood. Somehow his Cadillac Escalade has become a subject of interest too, particularly with one "Harper's Island" actor who pointed out that the golfer wasn't driving a Buick.
"Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich, meanwhile, retweeted some great shots of homemade models based on the Disney-Pixar series, they're mighty impressive. Also impressive has been the performance by "New Moon" in theaters this month, but Jim Carrey took note of the movie's rabid fans and issues a warning in response. Check out those tweets along with sad news from Emmy Rossum, how to get to Sesame Street and Sarah Silverman's reaction to "Precious." It's all waiting after the jump in the Twitter-Wood report for November 30, 2009.

Two of my most highly anticipated movies of next year are Disney-affiliated: Tron Legacy and Toy Story 3. My nostalgia/geek meters are going to go way off the charts.
Lee Unkrich, co-director of Toy Story 2, Monster’s Inc. and Finding Nemo, is handling the director’s chair for Toy Story 3, with a script by Little Miss Sunshine’s Michael Arndt (and surely, a great deal of input from the head honchos at Pixar).
While not quite as eloquent as the first trailer for the film, this second teaser trailer definitely gives a good impression of what we’re in store for. I’d imagine that this storyline, which focuses on aging characters that increasingly find themselves out of place in Andy’s life, will have many of the emotional beats that Pixar has displayed brilliantly in Up and Wall-e lately. There’s a lot of silliness in this trailer, »

Slashfilm.com have stumbled across a brand new teaser trailer for Toy Story 3. They’ve speculated that this trailer is a mashup of previous ones but it does have a little bit of new footage in it. It looks like it’s been posted by Disney France but the text is all in English so I guess it’s an international trailer of sorts.
Toy Story 3 will be completely in 3d and reunites cast members which include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, John Ratzenberger and Wallace Shawn. This third installment is directed by Lee Unkrich and we can expect to see it in the cinema 23rd July 2010. Check it out below.

Update: This footage has appeared in previous trailers, just not the one I was played here at a Toy Story 2 screening in the UK. It seems there's a series of different trailers for different territories. A second teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 has appeared on Youtube and you can see it embedded below the break. There's a bunch of new footage, a sprinkling very old footage, a slightly better idea of what some of the new locations and characters look like (including one pause-or-you've-missed-it crowd shot that hints at just how massive the supporting cast list might be), and an awful lot of sheer awesome. Perhaps best of all is that it doesn't really feel like it's giving away too much either. It's another good teaser that plays in a similar way to the last one yet still feels fresh. Chicago – As Disney/Pixar continues to release new films on Blu-Ray, they often “piggy-back” one title with another from their catalog, choosing to release Pete Docter’s first directorial effort for the company, “Monsters, Inc.” in HD on the same day that they release his new film, “Up”. In a beautiful 4-disc combo pack that includes Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital copies of the film, “Monsters, Inc.” continues the Pixar Blu-Ray tradition.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
John Goodman and Billy Crystal star as the lovable-and-gigantic Sulley and his wisecracking sidekick Mike Wazowski, respectively. Sulley and Mike work for a scream-processing factory in Monstropolis known as “Monsters, Inc.” A little girl named Boo finds her way into the world, scaring the monsters in return, and it’s up to Sulley and Mike to restore order and get the wee one back home where she belongs.
Monsters, Inc. was released on Blu-Ray and DVD on November 10th, »

“‘The Princess and the Frog’ is a return to the timeless world of hand-drawn animation at Disney. It’s an ageless fairy tale, but with a fresh twist that combines everything we look for in great stories: comedy, adventure, music-and most of all, the kind of heart that always sets Disney animation apart.”
~ John Lasseter, Executive Producer and Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Animation Studios
Opening on November 25th, in limited release, is Walt Disney’s return to 2D animation, The Princess and the Frog. After years of focusing on computer animation, The House That Walt Built is returning to its roots and I couldn’t be more excited. While I don’t know if The Princess and the Frog is going to be a classic like Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast, I know there is a place for traditional animation alongside what Pixar does so brilliantly with computers. »

Roland Emmerich's disaster blockbuster heralds a period of sunny box-office receipts, with the vampires and werewolves of Twilight set to keep the winter chill at bay next week
The winner
Question: when is a summer blockbuster not a summer blockbuster? Answer: when it's released in November, of course. Roland Emmerich's patented formula of awesome planetary destruction and human heroics always screams out for a summer release, but this year Sony chose not to throw his 2012 into a competitive market already crowded with Transformers, Terminators and Wolverine. And the strategy has paid off, with an opening gross of £6.49m, proof that audiences will line up to see a big, dumb action flick no matter what month it is.
It's not the biggest opening of the year – it is behind both Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. But if you strip out the »

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" might as well have been a major Hollywood premiere last night, because Twitter-Wood was all over it and Ice-t even posted a shot of himself with the pair of nightvision goggles packaged with the game's Prestige Edition bundle. Other first-day buyers included Fred Durst, Diablo Cody, and possibly Michael Ian Black, whose snark is sometime difficult to see through.
In a follow-up tweet, Korey Tinsel revealed that she still doesn't have a dress for the "New Moon" premiere, so she may be forced to do something desperate. All of those tweets and more are waiting after the jump, along with an impressive home security camera video taken by producer Dana Brunetti that shows what happens when you try to steal plants from his yard. For many reasons (it was released the same year as Shrek, it came between Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo), Monsters, Inc. is a largely overlooked piece of the Pixar canon. The film, though, does have a fan base that has been clamoring for a sequel and, rumors have been swirling. With no official announcement made yet, many have held their breath in hopes that Mike and Sully will return, but if the sequel is coming it's not going to be with Pete Docter at the helm. During an interview in which New York Magazine asked Docter about Up's success and the upcoming award season, the topic of future projects was broached. Docter told the magazine that Pixar's newest film was already a few weeks into production. When asked, fairly point blank, if the film was a sequel to his 2001 feature Monsters, Inc., Docter replied: I'm not working on »

When "Twilight" cast members began tweeting about subjects involving missing clothing, I definitely did not expect to log on to Twitter today and find out that Christian Serratos decided to outdo all of them, but but her new garment-less PETA ad definitely succeeded.
Dane Cook and Ice-t, meanwhile, were less focused on saving fur and more intent on playing "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" this weekend, according to their posts, and at least one of them found himself in possession of some nightvision goggles. Check all of that out after the jump along with Danny Masterson's criticism for Andre Agassi, "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich's favorite childhood toy and much more. Critics and audiences alike often get flack for championing Pixar’s films every time a new one is released. While everyone does go crazy with praise, just take a look at their catalog. Cars and A Bug’s Life may not be up to the standards of Toy Story 2, Wall-e, or Finding Nemo but they’re still better than half of the animated movies that are released over the years. If anything they’re probably the best studio around as they consistently churn out projects that above all put their story and characters first. One year ago, everyone crowned Wall-e as their finest achievement and was on many “best of” lists, mine included. While Up is certainly going to be there this year, my question now is will it remain on top? While it’s dropped a place or two, there’s no denying that Pixar has crafted their finest film. »

Pixar burst onto the scene with Toy Story and proved that they were the successor to Walt Disney Studios by providing heart-warming, funny family-friendly animation, using pixels instead of paintbrushes. They followed up with A Bug’s Life, which was another success, and they came right back with Toy Story 2 which was an expected smash. The question was back then, how long could they sustain the hits and the level of quality. A lot was riding on their fourth release, Monsters, Inc. , since it was to be their third original creation and a gauge of their long-term viability.
Well, we all know what happened. It and every subsequent film has been one hit after enough, proving Pixar was not only the real deal, but a successful font of new ideas. Disney clear had no choice but to advance their partnership by owning the company, which reinvigorated their own franchise characters. »
