Halloween Special Part 1: Jason Voorhees vs Me

31 October 2009 4:44 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

To bring us into Halloween I thought I would do a daring deed and take on Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger in a no holds bared face off (literally) where I have watched the entire back catalogue of their films to determine once and for all who is champion slasher

The three killers have haunted us through our childhoods with each horror legend bringing us movies which have completely terrified and equally bemused us with poor sequels and terrible plots

Beware pictures of blood, gore, slight nudity and terrible acting to follow.

I begin with Part one of the Halloween Special and start with Friday the 13th and Jason Voorhees, one of the most iconic horror villains of all time sporting the classic hockey mask and machete, Jason Voorhees has become a vastly popular member of the horror circle and would be up there with Dracula, Frankstein’s »

Movies That Make Me Think of Halloween

30 October 2009 9:51 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Recycled Film Experience! I wrote some of this in advance -- years in advance in fact -- to free up time to enjoy this costume crazed holiday. I originally published this list in 2005, but I've tweaked it some. Plus, not all of you were around in 2005. Herewith, the top 12 movies that remind me of Halloween. It's a top ten list and it's not even Tuesday. I'm so generous.

12 The Batman franchise (1989-2008)

In 1997 I went out Halloween clubbing as the Uma version of Poison Ivy. Whenever you dress up as a movie character the year the movie comes out, you'll have competition. There was another Poison Ivy there but I buried her, I promise. I had the horns and all the details, see. It was the longest I ever spent getting ready for Halloween (which is saying something): glue guns, orange wigs, fake foliage, you name it. I don't try as hard anymore. »

Exclusive Interview: Atreyu

30 October 2009 10:02 AM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Phobia Friday: Melophobia- Fear or hatred of music This week Atreyu released their epic fifth studio album, Congregation of the Damned – which you really need to check out pronto, since it contains some of the band's darkest material since their 2004 record The Curse (which I thought was essentially a vampire-themed album, but apparently that's not entirely the case), and also represents the best and strongest of the band's decade-long creative arc. It's an ambitious, epic project with an undercurrent of doom running through it – a theme well represented by killer tracks like Gallows, Storm to Pass, Stop! Before It's Too Late and We've Destroyed it All – and owes a lot of its heavy... »

Footloose Remake Loses Its Director

25 October 2009 11:21 PM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega has left Paramount PicturesFootloose over creative and budgetary reasons.  The remake is tentatively scheduled for June 2010 starring Chace Crawford and “Dancing with the Stars” perpetual partner Julianne Hough.

Ortega was behind the camera and plotting the dances steps for all three High School Musical movies and was the choreographer on the classic Dirty Dancing.  He recently completed the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It, which is poised to be a record-breaking hit this weekend.  He’s pictured here with Manley, his rescue dog that he apparently brings to premieres…

According to Variety, the studio wanted a more modest budget ($25 million or less) and an edgier dramatic tone for Footloose.  Ortega, of course, wanted an “elaborately-staged” musical ($30M) full of song and dance numbers.

Zac Efron was also supposed to be a part of the remake, but left because he didn’t want to be typecast as a twinkle-toed singer. »

10 Common Mistakes That Startup and Small Companies Make

11 September 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | Fast Company | See recent Fast Company news »

Young companies have small margins for error. Mistakes made early on can sink a company before its gets off the ground. Below is a list of 10 common mistakes made by young, small companies. In the list below, I use the generic term “product” to refer to either a product or a service.

Over the next few posts, I will expound on these ideas; for now, here is the list :

“Drinking Your Own Kool-Aid” – Overestimating the Enthusiasm for Your Product/Service – thinking your product is more special than your customers perceive. Not Validating Market Demand – thinking that your product is a “winner” before making sure you get a solid base of people who agreeStarting to Work with Customers Too Late – only engaging with customers when the product is ready for sale.Underestimating the Difficulty in Penetrating the Market – not expending enough effort to reach customers and to get them to try the product. »

Is It Too Late for Whitney's Comeback?

31 August 2009 12:35 PM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Despite topping the charts her first day out, the actual prospects don't look good for a returning superstar.

By Dominic Patten

On her new “I Look to You” album, Whitney Houston asks fans to "love me like I never left."   The lyric, from Houston’s duet with Akon, can resonate as both a request and plea -- especially from a singer who released her last studio album in 2002. Because one of the truths for the already troubled recording industry is that being a superstar just ain’t what it used to be.   Released on Monday -- a day earlier than CD Tuesdays, to qualify it for a Grammy -- the album was well reviewed and topped both the Amazon and iTunes sales char... »

A Cheaper PlayStation 3: Too Little, Too Late?

18 August 2009 2:34 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Earlier today at the GamesCom show in Germany, Sony Computer Entertainment finally announced it was dropping the price of its PS3 console. Effective immediately, a PS3 can be yours for $299, $100 less than it was a day ago. You probably want to wait until next month before racing out to get one, though: On September 1, a lighter, thinner PS3 with a larger hard drive goes on sale for the same price. Is the new PS3 better-equipped to compete in the videogame console wars? At $299, it's still more expensive than the cheapest Xbox 360 ($199) and Nintendo Wii ($250), and it has a lot of catching up to do if it wants to gain market share. The good news for Sony is most, if not all, of its lackluster performance so far can be blamed on it exorbitantly high price tag. There are top-notch games available for it right now -- LittleBigPlanet, Metal Gear Solid »

Mj Supporters Worry Too Late

9 July 2009 11:36 PM, PDT | NYPost.com | See recent New York Post news »

Some of the mystery surrounding Michael Jackson's is-he-or- isn't-he in the coffin is because Family Jackson worried someone might steal the body. Besides squabbling over finances, arrangements, religious rites, places of interment and whatever other inharmonies, the possibility, per their thinking, centered on someone maybe kidnapping Michael's remains. They even worried about micro signals being jammed. Whatever that means. So heavy was this concern that Homeland Security got called in for protection.

Three different law enforcement units are investigating his doctors and pharmacists. Maybe for no other reason than such time and effort has gone into this medical investigation, »

‘Cal of the Wild’ Seems a Few Years Too Late

10 June 2009 12:14 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

So I know we're all going crazy about Shia Labeouf thinking his mom is sexy and wanting to marry her and being a crazy alcoholic, but I'm gonna need you to focus for just a second so I can report the news that a movie is being developed over at DreamWorks. Calm down. Good? Good. Jonathan Goldstein, whose written for "The New Adventures of Old Christine," and John Francis Daley, who you'll remember best as that one kid from "Freaks and Geeks" that wore that powder blue jumpsuit that one time, have been hired to write the script for an in-house developed project called Cal of the Wild. According to Variety, the project will poke fun at reality television programs when a star of a survivalism show and his assistant find themselves in a real-life, bona fide life-or-death scenario. Which leads me to two points: Shouldn't this film have come out in 2002? You know, back »

Supernatural Season 4 Finale Review & Discussion

The Supernatural season 4 finale, titled Lucifer Rising created a great collection of plot lines that were drawn together in a neat little tidy knot.  With this, a freaking big new plot line evolved from last night’s episode.

The show opened to a background theme to the tune of a classic Kansas song titled Carry On Wayward Son.  The montage helped build the emotion that was going to be necessary to get through this last episode of this season.  It was very well done - this is my kind of classic rock as I channel Dean continually.
