Director Tony Kaye talks Steps and Zero Point

10 December 2009 8:37 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

In another universe, Director Tony Kaye has been working in Hollywood for the last ten years.  He didn’t have creative differences with Edward Norton on American History X, and has been working on big movies ever since.

But, as most of you know, that’s not what happened.

While editing American History X, Tony Kaye claims to have been removed from the process and says Edward Norton re-edited the film to give himself more screen time.  After that happened, Kaye tried to remove his name from the credits and he placed ads in Variety attacking the film and he sued New Line and the DGA.  When a director does something like this on his first big release, it’s no surprise Hollywood didn’t want to work with him on other things.

But even though Kaye has been quiet the last few years, he claims to be working on two films. …

Tony Kaye Discusses His Next Two Films

10 December 2009 5:38 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Tony Kaye became well known in the 90s for his direction of some amazing adverts and music videos and, as is still common practise in Hollywood, he made the transition to the big screen soon after with his brutal take on Nazism in Los Angeles, American History X

Though the story of his exclusion from the editing process, and enmity for the finished film is well known, the fruits of Kaye’s labours were evident, and bountiful. Though he turned his back on Hollywood, he is making his return to films with Black Water Transit and two more films which he discusses in the video below.

If you’ve not seen American History X or his anti-abortion documentary Lake of Fire they are well worth seeking out as Kaye’s style is unrelenting and if his next two films, Steps and Zero Point, live up to the standard Kaye has …

Trading DVD2Blu Not So Lucrative

23 November 2009 3:41 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Warner Brothers has launched a new service that sounds fantastic on paper but turns out to be useless in practice. On DVD2Blu.com, for a low price, you can trade up your old DVD for the Blu-ray equivalent. Sounds good, right? Except you're limited to only 55 barebones releases to select from, and you have to pay additional shipping and tax to get it delivered to you in 5 weeks. It adds up to not being worth the effort.

A standard order of one title will set you back $7.95 + $4.95 in shipping, for a total of $12.90. Some of the newer/biger releases (Body of Lies, Speed Racer, Superman Returns) are $9.95 a piece, for a total of $14.90. Not including tax, depending on where you are. The website says that you get free shipping if your order is more than $25, but that number is obviously a con, since in order to pass $25, you'd have …

Upgrade Your Warner DVDs to Blu-ray for as Low as $7.95

17 November 2009 11:02 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Warner Home Video just announced a new program where you can upgrade several of your DVD titles to Blu-ray for as low as $7.95, and right now the price doesn't go any higher than $9.95. This is a similar program to the Red2Blu offer they made allowing customers to upgrade their HD DVD titles to Blu-ray, a program I actually took advantage of and loved it as a result.

The process to upgrade is simple. Consumers select the titles they want to upgrade on DVD2Blu.com, mail in their standard DVDs with pre-paid postage and a short time later receive copies of the same film on Blu-ray Disc. Consumers who place orders over $25 will receive free shipping. For a complete list of titles visit DVD2Blu.com, but I have included the most recent list of titles and prices directly below. 10,000 B.C. ($9.95) Rush Hour 3 ($9.95) Full Metal Jacket ($9.95) Pan's …

Warner Bros. Launches DVD to Blu-ray Upgrade Program

17 November 2009 10:57 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Warner Bros. has announced a DVD to Blu-ray upgrade program.  While the list doesn’t include all their titles, it’s at least a start.  According to WB, the process to upgrade is simple.  Consumers select the titles they want to upgrade on DVD2Blu.com, mail in their standard DVDs with pre-paid postage and a short time later receive copies of the same film on Blu-ray Disc.  If you mail in one DVD, it’s $7.95 plus shipping.  If you order more than $25, you’ll receive free shipping.

While some people haven’t been converted to Blu-ray, I’m all in.  I think the picture quality is amazing on Blu-ray and I definitely see a difference between DVD and the HD format.  All I can say is, if you have an 1080p TV, the format is absolutely worth the investment.  For a complete list of what WB is willing to …

Method Man to Star in Gareth Maxwell Roberts' The Mortician 3D

6 November 2009 10:56 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

This is not the usual project we write about, but I just thought it sounded cool enough to mention. THR has announced the cast for The Mortician 3D, produced by Belladonna Productions, from the on-going Afm. Hip-hop star Method Man (last seen in The Wackness) will headline along with Angelic Zambrana (last seen in Precious). Tom Hardy (Bronson) and Edward Furlong (American History X) are also in talks to join as well. The "gritty, urban drama" was written and is being directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts (Kill Kill Faster Faster). Shooting starts this month in Louisiana. It may sounds bland, but read on for story details. The Mortician 3D is a redemption tale where kindness triumphs over cruelty and falls within the genres of urban noir, contemporary fairytale and psychological thriller. The film is set in the nightmare ghetto of a decaying metropolis and is based around about one man's …

26 October 2009 3:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"Eclipse" actress Jodelle Ferland claims that hackers descended on her website, which would explain the disarray currently on display if you visit Jodelle-Ferland.net. Her "Twilight" series costar Ashley Greene seemed to be having a much better weekend, however, taking in the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl Sunday night. Greene was joined by Danny DeVito, Demi Moore, and a host of others who tweeted pictures from the night.

Elsewhere, Tom Felton and Emmy Rossum are still undecided on their Halloween costumes, but Felton has officially nixed a Dalmation outfit and Rossum may be warming up to Pippi Longstocking. Check out what they had to say after the jump along with Edward Norton doing yoga, Billy Burke's "Harry Potter" shout-out and Stephen Fry's new secret video game role. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for October 26, 2009.

Monty Python, Thom Yorke And Miley Cyrus As Pocahontas In Today's Twitter-Wood

5 October 2009 4:30 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

There was a lot to catch up on in Twitter-Wood today after my long weekend, including the 40th anniversary of Monty Python's first appearance on television, which member John Cleese and fan Edgar Wright both noted. Elsewhere, Edward Norton and Danny Masterson had good things to tweet about Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's live solo performance, and Miley Cyrus and Ashley Tisdale joined Paris Hilton among those tweeting their Halloween costume plans for 2009.

There is loads more to check out, though, believe it or not, as James Gunn tweeted a pic of himself offering juice to a horse that may belong to Rainn Wilson and Jeremy Piven posted a behind-the-scene shot of Matt Damon from "Entourage." I can't even summarize it all today, I retweeted so many people. I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter-Wood report for October 5, 2009.

An epic week of "Twilight" TwitPics continues, this time with Peter Facinelli offering an actor's eye view of his favorite "Eclipse" makeup artist. Rachelle Lefevre also unleashed a few shots of her and her dog, who may not be an artist, but definitely looks soft.

Other Twitter revelations today include Fred Durst's affinity for a Boba Fett statue that he refuses to part with no matter where he moves, as well as Lloyd Kaufman's rundown of Troma films that studios have offered to remake. Read on, and you'll find out about all of that, as well as where to find the "Toy Story 3" trailer and how big of a drinking glass Jerry Lewis can stuff into his mouth. The Fall season always means two things -- it's time to wrap up marathon training and start planning Halloween costumes. Edward Norton and Paris Hilton are on top of those tasks, respectively. Norton's planning on running with some Kenyans in New York on November 1st, while Paris is hard a work costume hunting, but you'll have click on down to see where she's shopping.

Also today, Alyssa Milano emphatically denied that she is pregnant, so rumor-mongers back off. Thomas Jane to Star in Glen Sherley

29 September 2009 9:29 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While talking with Thomas Jane about his upcoming directorial debut Dark Country, which is set to hit DVD on October 6th, the in-demand actor revealed that he will be playing Glen Sherley in a biopic about the armed robber turned country musician. Shirley was a prot&#233g&#233 of Johnny Cash that escaped Folsom Prison to become a singer songwriter. He penned Cash's song Greystone Chapel, and later killed himself under the pressure of the spotlight. The film is being directed by Tony Kaye, and shooting will start after Jane finishes the second season of his popular HBO drama Hung.

While chatting with us about his character in Dark Country, a man that detested country music, Jane had this to say about his upcoming biopic Glen Sherley:

Dude, what do you have against country music?

Thomas Jane: (Laughs) You know what? I have absolutely nothing against country music. In fact, …

Edward Norton Evades Avengers Questions

28 September 2009 4:10 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Edward Norton’s a pretty versatile guy. He’s able to ricochet between roles in heavy stuff like 25th Hour and American History X while still maintaining a presence in slightly lighter fare like Fight Club, The Illusionist, and The Incredible Hulk. You might notice that those seem pretty heavy for their genres, but then again, Norton’s a pretty serious guy.

He takes his career pretty seriously as well, which is why he won’t give a solid answer to the press about his potential involvement as Bruce Banner in the crossover Avengers film. The response he gave MTV when questioned about the role was ambiguous:

“I get very busy. You have to deal with the demands of your moment. I tend to keep my head in the thing I’m doing and I don’t speculate or worry too much about what two or three blocks down the thing is going to be. …
