Spartacus: Blood and Sand, the premium cable channel Starz's retelling of the Spartacus legend (from the creators of Xena: Warrior Princess and Legend of the Seeker), debuts January 22nd. The show's "name" actors are Lucy Lawless and The Mummy's John Hannah, and they both make very strong impressions, as does newcomer Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. But the real star of the show is its overall look and sensibility, which is a cross between 300 and Gladiator, but doesn't feel (too) derivative of either. Incidentally, if you're thinking from these pictures that the show contains more than its share of beefcake, you're right! »
