The World Series, Hideki Matsui and Mariah Carey In Today's Twitter-Wood

5 November 2009 3:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Yankees supporters were out in force last night, and a few Twitter-Wood citizens were right by the field uploading pics. Brody Stevens may have shot the most enviable of the day, apparently getting soon-to-be-mvp Hideki Matsui in the dugout before the game. Jeremy Piven caught another high-quality photo-op, though, standing with his fellow Chicagoan Brian Urlacher.

Poor John Favreau was stuck in the editing room for "Iron Man 2," though, which he noted on his account. Larry King, Eliza Dushku and other added their thoughts after Phillies finally went down. Check out all of their tweets, along with Brett Ratner's pic with Mariah Carey after wrapping her video and Andy Milonakis. They're all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 5, 2009.

Cow Films, 'V' On ABC And Sesame Street In Today's Twitter-Wood

4 November 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Cow films appear to be the official successor to the unseen prequels tag that was trending on Twitter earlier this week. Both Jon Favreau and Steve Agee made contributions today, while John August offered some criticism of ABC's new "V" series and Brian Lynch commemorated the 40th birthday of "Sesame Street."

In the "Twilight" neighborhood of Twitter-Wood, meanwhile, Peter Facinelli discussed an accidental oversleeping incident that resulted in a late arrival on-set. David Slade responded by thanking him for not ever being late during "Eclipse." Check out all of those tweets after the jump. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 4, 2009.

Five Favorite Films with F. Gary Gray

14 October 2009 9:25 AM, PDT | Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news »

Director F. Gary Gray began his career creating music videos for several big name R&B and hip-hop artists in the early 90s, including Ice Cube, Tlc, and OutKast. In 1995, Gray made a big screen splash with a little stoner comedy called Friday, starring a pre-Rush Hour Chris Tucker and an up-and-coming Ice Cube, a friend of Gray's. Friday was a surprise hit, opening the doors for future high profile projects such as The Negotiator, 2003's The Italian Job remake, and Be Cool. This week, Gray continues his strong track record in the crime/action genre with Law Abiding Citizen, and... »

Jackie Chan Is A Flying Duck

13 October 2009 11:11 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Rush Hour did a lot for Jackie Chan, but one thing it did not do was turn him into an American action hero. Sure, he pulled off being in a couple B-Movies and was even able to somewhat revive his career with the somewhat successful The Forbidden Kingdom. But more than the novelty karate sidekick Jackie Chan is not. At least not in the States. But of course, he still makes movies. And according to THR, his next may be Flying Duck, a road comedy that is described by its funders as a .cross-border bromance.. The movie will be directed by indie favorite Jia Zhangke. Apparently the role he.ll play in the movie will be a small one and will .be a play on his cop persona.. With a guy like Chan who is mostly all awe and not much talent, it.s hard not to be bummed about »

Bryan Singer Going Back to ‘X-Men’?

13 October 2009 3:15 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

At the Pusan International Film Festival held in South Korea, director Bryan Singer had most fanboys’ ears perking up when he mentioned: “I’m still looking to possibly returning to the X-Men franchise. I’ve been talking to Fox about it.” Singer was the director for both X-Men and X2: X-Men United, but decided to pass on what would eventually be X-Men: The Last Stand so that he could helm Superman Returns instead.

Rush Hour director Brett Ratner handled the third mutant installment while Rendition director Gavin Hood oversaw the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Singer’s absence; the latter of which will birth another spin-off revolving around Ryan Reynolds’ character, Deadpool. Box office success was never a problem with these comic-themed movies, but both X3 and the Superman reboot didn’t stand up critically to some other feature films from the same genre.

Ratner Snaps Model Girlfriend Naked For Playboy

13 October 2009 1:21 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Moviemaker Brett Ratner has photgraphed his girlfriend naked for a bizarre new Playboy spread.

Victoria's Secret model Alina Puscau bared all for the Rush Hour director and posed provocatively with a mannequin for a series of stylish shots, which will appear in the November issue of the men's magazine.

Ratner, who previously dated tennis ace Serena Williams, admits the photoshoot is based on a personal fantasy, explaining, "It's like seeing inside a sexy, elegant world you wouldn't be allowed into... It's that fantasy of creating your own dream girl."

In the "cinematic" shoot, Puscau, 27, dines with her naked plastic lookalike, applies her make-up and grabs her naked crotch while moving in for a kiss.

Ratner reveals the whole project was an homage to his late friend, German photographer Helmut Newton.

He adds, "Alina is a natural beauty ad reminds me of a Helmut model."

Ironically, the Romanian model admits she agreed to pose for Newton once but he sent her home when she refused to bare all for the photographer. »

Bryan Singer Up For Another "X-men"

12 October 2009 3:54 PM, PDT | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

During South Korea's Pusan International Film Festival, Bryan Singer confirmed he's interested in returning to the "X-Men" film franchise and has discussed the possibility with 20th Century Fox says The Associated Press. The American director didn't go into details if this interest was a fourth general "X-Men" film or a spin-off, but did say Hugh Jackman and the other cast members whom he worked with on the first two films were a big part of the appeal. Singer helmed both "X-men" and "X2: X-men United", but passed on the third installment so he could make "Superman Returns". Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour") directed the third and Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi") directed this year's spin-off feature "Wolverine".... »

Bryan Singer Revisiting X-Men

12 October 2009 5:08 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

I, along with many other X-Men fans, let forth a cry of despair when it was first announced that Bryan Singer – the man who had revived the comic book movie – would not be returning for 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand. That may sound a trifle melodramatic, but if you’ve ever read the comic books you’d know that Marvel’s X-Men series has a story far more detailed and complex than many of it’s contemporaries.

Of course what made it worse is that when “The Last Stand” finally hit cinemas, it was arse-gravy of the highest order (excuse the language). So today’s news that Mr. Singer is considering a return to the franchise comes as a very welcome (if not overdue) surprise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Singer has already been in talks with Fox:

Bollywood star to play 'Hugh Hefner' role

Indian star Boman Irani is set to play a Hugh Hefner type role in a new Bollywood movie. He will apparently play Harry Holkar in Fruit And Nut, who leads a very similar lifestyle to the Playboy magazine founder.

"There are different shades to the character but it is one of the funniest characters I have ever played. It's weirdly funny." Irani said.

A movie based around the life of Hefner himself is also planned. The proposed Hollywood film is set to be directed by Rush Hour helmer Brett Ratner.

Exclusive: Brett Ratner talks about new Polanski doc

2 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Earlier this week, Brett Ratner told BlogTalkRadio's "Movie Geeks United" podcast that he would be producing a follow-up to the 2008 documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired - a film that yesterday became snarled in controversy after one of its interviewees recanted a confession he made in the film that would have helped Polanski's side in the 31-year-old unlawful sexual assault case against him. The interview with Ratner was recorded just hours before Polanski's September 26th arrest. The Rush Hour auteur tells the show that Polanski will participate in his film, although that now seems highly unlikely in light of recent events. »

Brett Ratner And Marina Zenovich Interested In Documenting Roman Polanski Arrest

29 September 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Due to the unending nature of real life, sequels to non-fiction films should be more common than they are. Documentary sequels do occasionally exist though, and the most necessary of these are the follow-ups to films involving inconclusive or controversial legal cases. Must-see examples include Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky's "Paradise Lost 2: Revelations" and Nick Broomfield's "Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer."

We may have another to add to that group now that Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski ("Chinatown") has been arrested and faces extradition on 32-year-old statutory rape charges. Filmmaker Marina Zenovich, whose brilliantly constructed 2008 film "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired," shed new light on the 1977 trial, has reportedly gone to Switzerland to further document the case. It's not clear if she is interested in making another feature doc or simply looking to supplement "Wanted and Desired" with new footage in the form of an epilogue. »

Brett Ratner Says He Lost His Virginity to a Cripple in a Tree

28 September 2009 5:30 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3) has revealed to The Daily Express that a scene he filmed for "New York, I Love You" is based on how he lost his virginity, which is to a paraplegic girl dangling from a tree. "It's probably my most personal film," said Ratner. "When I sent the original script, which is autobiographical, the producers would not let me film it because, in the original ending, she (the girl) is a cripple, and they have sex as she's hanging from a tree in Central Park." He continued: "Everyone was freaking out over my short, so I changed it to where she wasn't a cripple, but an actress pretending to be a cripple." We've previously heard from actress Olivia Thirlby that in the movie, Anton Yelchin makes loves to her while she is suspended from a tree. We just had no idea that the sequence was taken from Ratner's life. »

Well to add a little further proof to our claim, last night at The Laugh Factory during the Chocolate Sundaes Comedy Show we got a chance to see Tucker hit the stage and work out some of his new material.

Now, as we reported there is no word yet on set tour date or who will open up for him, but we did discover the tour is set up for about 20-30 cities and is set to begin this fall. »

Box Office ‘Cloudy’ For a Second Consecutive Week

27 September 2009 11:12 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

So much for all the new releases this weekend. It was once again Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which dominated the weekend box office, with all the new releases Surrogates, Fame, Pandorum and all the rest coming up well short. In fact, it wasn't even a very close race in the end, with Meatballs running away with it on Saturday and Sunday after a close Friday. Their repeat first-place finish with $24.6 million was only a small drop from their $30 million opening last week, which was the third best September opening of all time behind Sweet Home Alabama and Rush Hour (Which goes to show you what a dead month September usually is at the box office, folks.) The rundown: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs - $24,600,000 Surrogates - $15,000,000 Fame (2009) - $10,033,000 - The Informant! - $6,915,000 Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself - $4,750,000 Pandorum - $4,408,000 Love Happens - $4,327,000 Jennifer's Body - $3,500,000 9 - $2,832,000 Inglourious Basterds - »

Diablo Cody Might Write Ratner's Long Awaited Playboy Movie

27 September 2009 5:50 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It's been a few years since a biopic about Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner was announced with Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, Red Dragon) attached to direct. Last year there was even a rumor that Robert Downey Jr. was in very serious negotiations to take on the role of the father of the Playboy bunny. However, other than quick fleeting mentions of speculation it doesn't seem like there's been any real progress made towards going into production. However, Cinematical made a keen observation on Twitter when Hefner updated: "Meeting with Diablo Cody to talk about the Brian Grazer Playboy film today." Oh really, Hef? But the guys at Cinematical also noticed that the usually vocal Cody didn't seem to call attention to the meeting on her Twitter page. So is she re-writing a current draft? Will she craft a different story? Who knows!? This definitely seems like an interesting and unlikely »

Ratner Puts Personal Paraplegic Sex Encounter Into New Film

25 September 2009 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Moviemaker Brett Ratner lost his virginity to a paraplegic dangling from a tree - and now he has turned the sexual encounter into a scene in his latest film.

The Rush Hour director reveals his odd short, as part of new movie New York I Love You, is based on a real episode during his youth in Miami, Florida.

But he had to tone down the sex scene in the movie - because producers couldn't stomach the idea of his lead actor, Anton Yelchin, making love to a tied-up paraplegic woman.

Ratner explains, "It's probably my most personal film. When I sent the original script, which is autobiographical, the producers would not let me film it because, in the original ending, she (the girl) is a cripple, and they have sex as she's hanging from a tree in Central Park.

"Everyone was freaking out over my short, so I changed it to where she wasn't a cripple, but an actress pretending to be a cripple."

In the disturbing scene, the girl, played by Olivia Thirlby, insists Ratner's character (Yelchin) makes love to her, while she is suspended from a tree.

The moviemaker relocated the scene to New York's Central Park and admits he had all kinds of problems shooting there.

He adds, "I had just two days to shoot the scene. I thought it would be easy because it was Central Park... I go into the park and I take the girl, and she weighs, like, 75 pounds and I hang her off the tree. The problem was that the law in Central Park states that you're not allowed to touch a tree if you're a film crew; you can't go near a tree.

"So they said, 'You can't do this, can you make it a pole?' I said, 'I can't, it has to be a tree.' They wouldn't even allow us to go on the grass. So, in the gravel part of the park, I put all this fake grass down and we had to bring in, believe it or not, our own tree that we flew in from upstate New York! We put that tree up and it was a nightmare because there were park rangers watching us making sure we weren't breaking the law. It was crazy." »

'Cloudy with a Chance' Rolls to Top North American Box Office

20 September 2009 8:32 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Debuted atop the North American box office, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" experienced one sunny weekend. Meeting industry expectation that projected it to earn around the $25 million-$30 million range, this new 3-D animated family comedy has pulled in an estimated $30.1 million in total since it opened Friday, September 18.

The children's book adaptation scored the highest-grossing September animation debut on record. The $30 million bow topped Sony's other animation film, "Open Season", which collected $23.6 million during its first three days weekend in 2006. In the overall highest-grossing September opening rank, "Cloudy" was third behind "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Rush Hour".

Screened in approximately 4,500 screens at 3,119 sites, the movie managed to draw kids and their parents despite the fact that schools are back in session. Nearly $18 million worth of ticket sales from "Cloudy" tally came from 3-D presentations at 1,828 sites, proving that 3-D is a significant draw for moviegoers. Commenting on the strong opening, »

Warehouse 13 Episode 12 (Season Finale): MacPherson - What to Expect

19 September 2009 1:44 PM, PDT | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

The newly branded Syfy Network has indeed lived up to the words “Imagine Greater.” Syfy’s hit new series, “Warehouse 13,” blends X-Files with the staunch cop/wacky cop routine of “Rush Hour.” With eleven episodes in the bag, and a finale showdown on the way, fans will be expecting a lot from their summer-born-Tuesday-night-science-fiction series. Of course, fans won’t be looking for the finale twist/shocker they would expect from Fringe or Lost. No, fans will be looking for laughs along with an ample touch of historical references that make you “say hmm.” After all, that’s what "Warehouse 13" is all about. “What if?” What if Edgar Allen Poe’s notebook and pen possessed mystical powers, what would they do? We saw in episode 11, “Nevermore,” that it could be used to make the literary wonders of Poe’s mind a reality. While, Jack the Ripper’s lantern »

[DVD Review] The Shooter Series, Volume One: Brett Ratner

17 September 2009 2:30 PM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Not long before Michael Bay poured acid down fanboy throats with his double whammy of escapist fertilizer, one name could be heard used with an equal amount of fervor: Brett Ratner. “The rat,” as he was affectionately dubbed by a cavalcade of enraged fanboys, had done a major disservice to the community in the form of X-Men: The Last Stand. Rumor of rushed rewrites and a hectic shooting schedule plagued the film and though Ratner’s entry opened with the biggest box-office take of the trilogy, The Last Stand was critically derided and universally cast out by most fanboys.

My own relationship with Ratner’s work skews on the side of shrewd criticism. I enjoyed Rush Hour 1 and 2, thought Red Dragon was effective if not particularly stellar and was one of the few people I know (aside from my Dad) who enjoyed Ratner’s oft-quoted critical and box office failure The Family Man. »
