Brolin Joins The Men In Black

Josh Brolin is preparing to fight aliens with Will Smith - he's reportedly in talks to join the Men In Black.
The hugely successful series, which follows the adventures of alien immigration officers, first hit the big screen in 1997 and was followed by a hit 2002 sequel, Men in Black II.
The franchise is being resurrected for a third movie by Tropic Thunder screenwriter Etan Cohen, and Hollywood superstar Smith is expected to reprise his role as Agent J.
Brolin is now said to be in negotiations to join the cast, amid rumours he will replace Smith's former onscreen partner Tommy Lee Jones, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Director Barry Sonnenfeld is expected to return to helm his third Men In Black, which is expected to begin production next year.

Words on the street are Josh Brolin could have a part in "Men in Black 3". The news was first brought into attention by Hero Complex, which reported that the depicter of the titular character in upcoming Warner Bros. Picture's movie, "Jonah Hex", is being considered to take a role in the third installment of the action movie franchise that features top secret agents donning black suits.
About the character that could be played by Brolin, the site reported there are several possible roles that have been discussed. First, the 41-year-old actor may be seen as "a new single-monikered government agent, with Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K passing the baton to Brolin's character." Or, he could portray Agent K as a young man. If those two roles are ruled out, he may play something entirely different.
However, there is one issue that still needs to be worked out, which is scheduling.

When you’re Will Smith and you’re not currently attached to any film, life is good. It’s a little less good when the news comes out that your potential Oldboy adaptation with Steven Spielberg is dead and the entire Internet cheers. But you pick yourself up, say a hearty, “Awhellnaw”, and move on to then next project, which could be another adaptation of Daniel Keyes’ novel Flowers for Algernon. Latino Review reports the joyous news that Steven Spielberg and Will Smith’s planned adaptation of the Japanese manga Oldboy, which was turned into the intensely-loved 2003 film of the same name, will not be happening. Mandate Pictures and DreamWorks pictures were to secure the rights together, they didn’t see eye-to-eye, walked away, and that breeze you felt was every film lover breathing a sigh of relief.

Man, it seems like ages since the "Men in Black" films were top grossing hits and it really has been years since "Men in Black II" hit theaters. While there's been talk over the years of reviving the franchise, no progress was ever made...until now. According to reports, Columbia Pictures has set "Tropic Thunder" scribe, Ethan Cohen, to write the third installment in the series. At the moment, there are no deals in place for the franchise's stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, however, the film won't likely go forward without the duo's involvement. After all, it wouldn't be "Men in Black" without the original 'men in black'. No production date is known at this time either, but we'll keep you posted.

Back in April we reported on news from the Sony ShoWest presentation that the studio was developing a script for a third Men in Black movie, something which built on the rumors from over a year ago that franchise stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones were interested in suiting up for some alien escapades once more. Fast forward to now and an update has come out that Men In Black 3 has found its writer in the form of Tropic Thunder screenwriter, Etan Cohen (not to be confused with one half of the famous Coen brothers, Ethan).
Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures (which Sony owns) has tapped Cohen to pen the script, but beyond that no deals have been made for either Smith or Jones to reprise their roles. Although I’d be very surprised if the studio didn’t have talks going on with the two stars

If you were one of the people clamoring for more of the Men in Black franchise after the second installment ended, then this article is for you. Why? Well, it seems the studio responsible for the Men in Black movies is also interested in more of them and so, has decided to make at least one more.
The studio has enlisted Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen to pen the script for Men in Black 3 but that’s about as far as things have gone. No deals for franchise stars Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones are in place as yet though, according to the trade, its unlikely that the film would move forward without them.

Despite having no confirmation that either Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones will return for another sequel, Columbia Pictures is pushing forward with Men in Black 3. Variety reports that its studio has hired Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to write the script.
THR reports that Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed both Men in Black movies, will come back for the third and that Smith is "interested" in possibly returning as well.
The pressure's on Cohen now, who will need to write a script good enough to convince Smith, and hopefully Jones as well, to return to the franchise. Sonnenfeld just needs to make a better movie than Men in Black 2 ... or at least his last effort, the dreadful Rv.

I didn’t fall head over heels in love with Tropic Thunder as many other people did; I found it overlong and Jack Black’s performance sucked all the air out after Robert Downey Jr. would fill it up again. That’s not to say it’s bad. It’s really very good, just not mind-blowing.
One film that was very very bad was Men in Black 2, which rehashed every element of the first Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones vehicle and halved the amount of laughs.
So, the news that Tropic Thunder scribe Etan Cohen (also responsible for the criminally underrated Idiocracy) will be taking over screenwriting duties for Men in Black 3 is definitely good news for the franchise. What isn’t good news is that so far, Smith and Jones haven’t signed deals to return. Maybe it’s time for new actors to fill the MiB shoes,

The Men In Black are back - movie bosses have signed up Tropic Thunder's screenwriter to draft a script for the third outing in the alien film franchise.
Writer Etan Cohen has been hired to pen the latest offering, and his work is expected to bring actors Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back together, according to Variety.
The hugely successful series first hit the big screen in 1997, pulling in a huge $600 million (£375 million) at the box office. Its 2002 sequel, Men in Black II, brought in an equally impressive $441 million (£275 million).
The films follows the adventures of a pair of alien immigration officers who police and monitor the extra-terrestrials who make their home on Earth.

Why oh why would Columbia Pictures go ahead with a third Men in Black film? Did they not see Men in Black II?!
Yes, Columbia Pictures are moving forward with a third installment in their Men in Black series. The studio have signed “Tropic Thunder” writer Etan Cohen to pen Men in Black 3 and while there are currently no deals in place ensuring the return of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones it is being assumed that the pair will be back.
Of all the studios it does seem that Columbia are the ones struggling for a lucrative franchise at present, with the exception of Spider-Man, the studio are heavily reliant on reviving old properties such as Ghostbusters and now Mib.
According to Variety the studio are remaining tight lipped on the direction that Men In Black 3 will take, however I doubt it will be long before the rumours start flying…

For Men In Black III has today found a writer, most probably a director, and possibly ignited the interest of a star.Etan Cohen, one of the writers on Tropic Thunder and, lest we forget, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, has been tapped to write the script for the second sequel in the Men In Black franchise, and with Sony keen to get their cash cow up and running asap, he’s apparently already quite a way into his draft.No plot details as yet, of course, but since when was a Men In Black film about plot? These films are about sly, deadpan jokes and outlandish special effects – you know, the modus operandi of director, Barry Sonnenfeld.Speaking of Sonnenfeld, he’s tentatively attached, although The Hollywood Reporter says nothing has been set in stone yet.

Men in Black was pretty entertaining, as well as a big money-maker for Columbia Pictures. On the other hand, the sequel may have been profitable, but it was about as much fun as an alien rectal probe.
Here’s hoping the third 'Men in Black' installment falls somewhere between those two. According to Variety, Columbia has hired Etan Cohen to pen Men in Black 3, adding to the list of high-profile assignments currently sitting on the comedy writer’s desk.
Cohen has a Sherlock Holmes project with Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell in development at Columbia. His recent output includes Tropic Thunder, which was both critically acclaimed and a box office hit last year, as well as the animated Madagascar: Escape to Africa. Cohen also wrote Idiocracy and for the television show King of the Hill.

We’ve known that Sony wants to make another “Men in Black” movie since April, but we haven’t really heard anything concrete about the movie since. That change today, with word that Sony has already hired “Tropic Thunder” writer Etan Cohen to pen the sequel and that he’s already deep into his draft, and that director Barry Sonnenfeld, who directed the franchise’s first two movies, is already attached to return.
Now the big question is, will Will Smith return? Smith was already a big star in 2002 when they made “Men in Black 2″, but he’s an even bigger star in 2009, so how much is it going to cost? Word is that there is buzz Smith is looking to return for part three, but even if you got him back, you’d still need to convince the other half of the men in black, Tommy Lee Jones.

This Sunday's Video Music Awards just got another dose of the King of Pop. On Tuesday, MTV announced that Janet Jackson would be opening up the show with a tribute to her late brother Michael (which is already inspiring speculation and expectations among fans). The latest news is that Sunday's broadcast of the VMAs will contain the premiere of the trailer for "This Is It," the film that incorporates rehearsal and performance footage from the shows that were supposed to make up Michael's scheduled 50-date residency at the O2 Arena in London. The film hits theaters on October 28 and will only be around for a limited two week engagement, but this Sunday's Vma show will be the first chance anybody has to check out footage from the movie.

Well it's not movie news specifically, but it's too huge not to post about. Right after the news of Farrah Fawcett's passing today, Michael Jackson has reportedly passed away due to a heart attack. It's a pretty surreal headline, but it now seems to have been confirmed from multiple sources. Not much is known except that he collapsed at his home in west Los Angeles and was rushed to the hospital in a coma where he was then pronounced dead. He was 50 years old.
Although he's become a pretty strange, reclusive and controversial figure in recent years, The King of Pop had a massive impact on the music and entertainment industry over the years. After many abortive attempts to bring him to the screen down the years, fictional inventor Tom Swift is finally making his cinematic bow after Barry Sonnenfeld and Ben David Grabinski convinced Columbia to take a punt on the boyish innovations.Swift was the hero of a popular sci-fi series of novels in the early 19th century. Loosely modelled on such historical figures as Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss, he invents all kinds of handy devices, including the arc light, portable movie camera and, er, a flying submarine which he then defends from dastardly villainous types.It's safe to expect some updated ingenuity with Men In Black 2 Sonnenfeld behind the camera. There has been all kinds of talk about Green Lantern lately as the film production itself rolls out of the station and toward reality. And with it, just as with any major comic book franchise, comes quite a bit of fan expectation -- expectations that sometime manifest in odd and exciting ways.
In this instance we have this very cool fan-made trailer for a Green Lantern movie that was posted up to YouTube by a user named JaronPitts. According to the description, this is his vision of a live-action Green Lantern with fanboy hero Nathan Fillion in the lead role.
