People are talking about precisely who Colin Firth wants to be in bed with.
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
Above, you can see the one sheet for Tom Ford's A Single Man, which more than one blog is crying about the marketing being de-gayed. And not just gay blogs, because indieWIRE says the new trailer has also been de-gayed. It's not fresh news right now, but I'd like to thank reader Darrien for pointing out that Jan Moir was named Bigot Of the Year by Stonewall in the U.K. after a last minute nomination for her hateful articles about Boyzone singer Stephen Gately. Adam Lambert was profiled by the L.A. Times yesterday and says he's more interested in being Beyonce than Daughtry. There are a stack of really good, funny »

We here at TVOvermind have no political affiliations. Well, we do, but we're not going to tell you what they are (actually, we have all sorts of affiliations amongst our various staff members). However, there are people out there who feel that Sesame Street (the beloved, long-running children's TV series airing on PBS) is part of the Democratic agenda. Those evil muppets! It's a travesty!
Tomorrow marks the show's 40th anniversary (and First Lady Michelle Obama will be appearing as a guest star on Sesame Street to help celebrate) and the show recently re-aired an episode from two years ago where Oscar the Grouch started a news network called Gnn (Grouchy News Network). A caller complained that Gnn wasn't grouchy enough and said "From now on, I'm watching Pox News. Now there's a trashy news show."
Naturally, some people have taken this to mean Sesame Street is beating up on »

Who knew Sesame Street would one day join the ranks of Real Time With Bill Maher, South Park and The Daily Show? You'd expect jabs at Fox News from the politically minded comedic shows, but not the kid's program celebrating its 40th anniversary tomorrow. The show recently reaired an episode from two years ago in which Oscar the Grouch launches his own television channel called "Gnn," for Grouchy News Network. Grundgetta, a female Muppet viewer, calls into Oscar's show and threatens to turn the dial. "From now on, I'm watching Pox News. Now there's a trashy news show," she exclaims. Now, conservative bloggers are getting their panties in a bunch over... »

Following Wednesday's episode of South Park in which Cartman and the crew try to re-brand the word "faggot" as a way to describe "annoying and inconsiderate" riders of Harley-Davidsons, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) released a statement saying that Trey Parker and Matt Stone's intentions were noble, but their methods awry. "The creators of South Park are right on one important point: more and more people are using the F-word as an all-purpose insult. However, it is irresponsible and wrong to suggest that it is a benign insult or that promoting its use has no consequences for those who are the targets of anti-gay bullying and violence." Clip of Kyle and Stan's attempt at a sociological shift after the jump. »

Stuff happens, when you're either sleeping or or living the fabulous and fashionable life we know you have. So we're starting your days with a few tidbits to keep you the sparkling conversationalist your friends expect you to be.
From today's teaser photo, one of the strengths of Sesame Street that has allowed it to last 40 years is that they localize the characters in the 140 countries it plays in. You're looking at Kami, a Muppet that's part of the South African Sesame Street where the AIDS crisis has left so many orphans living with the disease. Kami is female and HIV+, teaching the kids what they need to know about the disease along with the alphabet. This National Geographic piece has more global examples.
Speaking of Sesame Street, it's evidently a piece of the left wing, communist agenda to indoctrinate children against the true America. This is all based on »

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has blasted South Park for the use of the word 'fag' in a recent episode. The episode sees the characters use the word to refer to "annoying and inconsiderate" riders of Harley Davidson motorcycles. Homosexuals in the area take offense at first, but then join in with the 're-branding' of the word. GLAAD wrote: "Though this seems to represent a well-intentioned effort by the creators of South Park to delegitimise a vulgar anti-gay slur, the fact is that the word is and remains a hateful slur that is often part of the harassment, bullying and violence that gay people, and gay youth in particular, experience on a daily basis in this country. "It is an epithet that has real consequences for real people’s lives. Just this year, an 11-year-old Massachusetts student named Carl Joseph (more) »

Knock, Knock. Who's There? The Closet. you're Still Around? You Better Believe It!
There's been a great deal of discussion on the site over the past couple of weeks about gay celebrities, the closet and what constitutes being "out." And even though we've discussed the issue numerous times before, it seems like it is once again time to revisit the topic. And it's a subject that is as tricky as ever and that can have real consequences for the celebrities involved.
Perez kicked the latest round of debate off when he posted an item about White Collar's Matthew Bomer. Without citing a source or saying how he knew, Perez simply claimed Matt was an out gay man. If true, we were certainly interested in writing about Matt and his show, but as we aren't a gossip site, I wasn't going to simply repeat Perez's claims — for lots of reasons. »

I live in the country, so I know about motorcycles shattering the peace.
Before I start this, I feel I should mention that every time I try and provide commentary on a Comedy Central program, you guys tell me I have no sense of humor. You’re probably about to do it again. Keyboards ready? Good.
Last night South Park attempted to take on, in their own way, changing connotations for words like "faggot" and "gay." I agree their intent was noble. Execution, well, at least we can agree that Harley riders are annoying.
The general premise is a group of Harley riders goes around the town ruining everyone’s moments with their loud bikes. It comes out that the riders are really more into being the center of attention than anything else, to the point they start making the throbbing sounds, much like “motorboating” when they’re not riding »

Even though the show has been on forever, I still enjoy my weekly dose of the new South Parks. But lately, they seem to be running out of targets or have narrowed their focus too much on one particular evil: reality television.
The season opener featured a rather nasty swipe at Disney's Jonas Brothers. The recent "Dead Celebrities" chortle-fest took a much needed pot shot at Ghost Hunters, aka, "the gayest f#*$ing show on television." And last week launched an all out attack on Discovery's Whale Wars and Deadliest Catch, particularly against Whale Wars star Paul Watson.
The show has always been a bitch to write and making every episode a satirical masterpiece is impossible without suffering a full-on breakdown. But should the show lay off reality TV and take some bolder shots at reality, which as we all know are two completely different things?

After all, Houston is just about to elect the first openly gay mayor of a major Us city ever ^_^ Plus, all of our major counties voted blue in the presidential election. Yeah, we have uber-conservatives hiding out in the country and scattered about our cities (and an insane governor...), but a lot of us are just friendly ol’ folks who want nothing more than ride a cowboy- errr... horse through the open plains!
Okay, maybe we’re not even that. Bah, I give up! If you ever come to visit, »

I’m no music expert what with their fancy degrees and ability to appreciate music beyond “This sounds good.” But I do know lists and lists generate controversy and controversy equals traffic! And with their patented “slideshow” format which creates more hits based on an itemized story, EW.com has a real racket going!
Well, we just listed it like normal people after the jump. Take a look, see if you agree, and scream your disbelief at how a certain album you love wasn’t included. Also, remember that this is a list of soundtracks which are usually a collection of songs used in a movie as opposed to a score which is usually the instrumental accompaniment to the film created by a single composer (although there are obviously scores created by more than one composer).
If you want to click through the list like a chump, click here. It »

When his first film, “I Killed My Mother” (J’ai Tue Ma Mere), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, few people had heard of Xavier Dolan. Halloween is over, but Christopher Walken's powerful dramatic reading of Lady Gaga's eminent piece of poetry, "Poker Face," on BBC1's Friday Night With Jonathan Ross will boast a YouTube time stamp of Oct. 31, 2009 forever. Witness a haunting lyrical miracle, below. I already like Walken's interpretation better than Lady Gaga's, but the jury's still out for me on whether Eric Cartman's more "melodic" effort on last week's South Park (featured at the end of last week's Sound Bites video and embedded after the jump -- that song takes on a whole different meaning with a guttural male voice, »

Comedy is caricature: exploding the bad bits until they fill the stage. And the simplest caricature makes the most cutting satire. Borat roadtripped the Us with racism, sexism and an obscene moustache. Brüno showed off the best bleaching in fashion celebrity. Throwing the Jew down the well or chatting up a terrorist, it is a shocking, savage level of comedy. But with Sacha Baron Cohen the caricature is in fact the person being interviewed. When comedy tells the truth it can be painful, and using an idiot alter-ego softens the blow. In the same way, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (guys behind South Park and Team America) push satire to the places stand-up is too scared to visit. Because you can hit a cartoon character as hard as you like. They all piss on taboos. But, just as important, they pack in as much vulgarity as an 18 certificate can take: »

Got to admit I was a little under whelmed when watching this at the cinema. The main problem I found was the complete lack of pace and strangely for a Michael Mann film the editing was sub-par. I felt the narrative suffered a lot on the big screen. I was very disappointed because this was coming from one of the greatest filmmakers in America over the past decade.
Fortunately Public Enemies works much better on the small screen. The story of John Dillinger and the obsessive manhunt that took place is actually a very intimate one. The film has epic qualities but overall it really is just a story about one man that blurred the lines between criminal and hero.
Johnny Depp as always gives it his all; he captures the human being behind one of the most interesting figures in crime history. Christian Bale is well cast »

A number of reality shows were parodied last week, starting with one of my favorite reality series, Whale Wars, which was parodied on South Park last Wednesday, which was as crude and hysterical as always. The actual parody starts about five minutes in, but it's all worth watching. The episode rips on Paul Watson for being an indecisive media whore and for the Sea Shepherd's general ineffectiveness, and also mocks the reality show itself (and »

As the week comes to a close here in the MTV Newsroom, we're left with a handful of questions before we slide out the door and into the weekend. Is it too late to start training for the New York Marathon? (Answer: Yes, as it's Sunday.) Is this weekend when we roll the clocks back? (Yes, so enjoy an extra hour of sleep before running the marathon.) What's going to be the most popular costume for Halloween? (We've already seen more Sookie Stackhouses than we care to count.) But most importantly: What might you have missed this week here on the Newsroom blog? Lucky for you,
we have whole cornucopia of answers ready and waiting for your clicking pleasure.
