Marilyn Milian rocks!, 29 May 2004
Author: (chrbubb@hotmail.com) from Saline, Michigan U.S.A.

Judge Judy used to be my favorite television judge, but that position has now been usurped by the very honorable - and very beautiful - Marilyn Milian. Pooh-pooh to you, pooh24, I don't know which court show you're watching, but I think Judge Milian is the exact opposite of what you make her out to be. Not only is she easily the most eye-friendly and photogenic judge on TV, she's also the most fair. She can be funny, wise and sarcastic when she wants to be, but she is also caring and compassionate toward her litigants. Unlike Judge Judy, she won't fly off the handle at someone who doesn't deserve it. When she does go a little ballistic, it's only because the litigant she's yelling at is acting like a jerk. And she sure is fun to watch when she does go ballistic - especially when the throws in some of the trademark Spanish phrases she's become known for. It's very nice to see a Hispanic television personality who isn't a Speedy Gonzales-esque stereotype or caricature and who is very proud of her heritage. Also, Judge Milian is not sexist in her judgments, at least not as sexist as Judge Judy can be. If the plantiff is a female and is obviously behaving like a jerk or taking advantage of the defendant (for example, a woman I saw the other day who sued her former friend, who had bestowed upon her all kinds of gifts, including a nose job, and was suing him for not paying for her trip to Texas - her case was dismissed, incidentally), she will tear into her as well as she would a male plaintiff. On top of it all, she's not as cold and businesslike as Judge Judy can be - she'll ham it up with the litigants sometimes, and once when disco singer Carol Douglas was on the show as a plaintiff, the judge had her sing a little of her biggest hit, "Doctor's Orders." Overall, she has made this a very fun show to watch. I'd bring a case before Judge Milian before I'd bring it in front of any other judge on TV. Ten out of ten stars!

Best By Far!!!, 31 August 2003
Author: cias_a from Canada

Judge Marylin Millian's intelligence, wit, charm and INCREDIBLE yet tasteful sense of humor, combined with integrity, honesty, respect and caring, makes this show a blast since she took over in 2001. Since then, she managed to have another baby (she's only 39, has 3 little kids and lives in Miami) and quickly resumed her TV career, getting better and better. I could never stand other TV court shows, and now it's the only thing on TV I am regularly taping! Great entertainment, great intellectual stimulant, best hour on TV, eye opener, occasional shocker, not to be missed!!! Watch this passionate, beautiful Cuban genius in action and you'll see why other TV judges are mummies! 10 out of 10! Will also teach you how to talk back and argue your point at a business meeting, a small court case, a bout with your landlord or anywhere else, where viewpoints do not converge...

Best Court Show on T.V., 19 June 2002
Author: Movie-Guru from California

I think this is the best court show on television. Judge Jerry Sheindlin was a good judge, but for some reason I seem to enjoy Judge Milian more (I guess it's because she is a woman, though I hope that doesn't make me sexist). Judge Judy is too annoying and rants off too much, so if you want to see a GOOD female judge, watch The People's Court.

Clarifying other comments, 8 May 2007
8/10
Author: ktsfamily from United States

The Peoples Court is definitely the best of the TV court shows. Just to clarify a point, the Peoples Court started in 1981 with Judge Joseph Wapner, not with Ed Koch. The reason why this show is the best, is because this show is mostly about the law, not the theatrics of the Judge. In most of the other TV courtroom shows, the judge humiliates the litigants and the decisions are not based on law but based on the entertainment value of the decision. Not only is Marilyn Milian fair, but she treats the litigants with respect. She also explains in full detail why the judgement is made and also explains what type of paperwork and actions should have taken place and accompanied them. She will at times show her wit with the litigants, but without humiliating them.

Curt Chaplin should keep his hands off of people, 12 June 2008
8/10
Author: madisonwisconsinite from Wisconsin USA

Has anyone else noticed how the reporter, Curt Chaplin, is always putting his hands on people to align them with the camera? Why don't they put something on the floor to guide people to? And he says some things that are clearly geared to embarrassing to litigants, too. I hope people get paid enough for it to be worth it, and mean-spirited as you may think I am, I'd really like someone to slap Curt for "glomming" onto them with his hand. I think it is very inappropriate. I also think that Judge Milian has come to be a little bit too much like Judge Judy, haranguing people isn't what I want to see. Still, it's a great court TV show. Curt, if you ever read this, keep your hands off of strangers!

The People's Court is excellent!, 24 June 2005
Author: tjfishstix from Potomac, Maryland

*** This comment may contain spoilers ***

Judge Marilyn Milian of The People's Court is an excellent judge. She respects everyone who comes in her courtroom (although her litigant interviewer and attorney-poller do not). This is highly recommended over all courtroom shows. Unlike other television judges, Judge Milian never resorts to curses, and is actually very funny. Judge Milian is the best judge yet on the show, and is a great improvement over previous judges. In fact, this series is better than the original The People's Court. This show is highly recommended to children over the age of ten (because younger children will not digest the suits or will be bored out of their minds). Hopefully, litigant interviewer Curt Chaplin and attorney-poller Harvey Levin will learn to respect people, and then The People's Court will be absolutely perfect.

Marilyn is the Best, 14 May 2001
Author: goats1 (goats1@yahoo.com) from Woodland CA

Of all the judge shows this one is the best going today. Judge Marilyn really adds drama and a quick pace to the show. She is a lot more likable than Judge Judy. She is also quite a looker in my opinion. She is much more self assured of herself, and doesnt have the aura of false celebrity.

Best Court Show on Television, 12 September 2000
Author: watker from New Jersey, USA

When Ed Koch presided over "The People's Court," it was a good show. Now that Jerry Sheindlin is on the bench, it's a GREAT show! "Judge Jerry" is a great personality, less combative than his wife Judge Judy, but fair, incisive, and a great sense of humor.

What sets "People's Court" apart from the rest, though, is its emphasis on the process. Judge Sheindlin's rulings are methodical, and Sheindlin is careful to explain them, not just present them. Furthermore, each case (three per episode) are bookended by legal reporter Harvey Levin, who polls a small audience gathered by the Manhattan Mall, as well as delving into the legal aspects of each case, and at times recommending the proper actions to take if you find yourself in a similar situation.

Overall, its "The People's Court's" non-exploitive nature that makes it excellent. Like its predecessor, and unlike most court shows today, it depends on the cases themselves and not strange, Jerry Springer-esque litigants (and cases) or a judge's temper to entertain. Bravo!

Fair show., 15 August 2000
Author: lartronic from Akron, Ohio

This is another of those court TV shows that everyone seems to be cranking out. Since this debuted in '97, two judges have been on it, Ed Koch, and Jerry Sheindlin (Judge Judy's Husband!!!), both are fair judges and the show is fairly entertaining.

Disorder In The Court, 19 January 2004
Author: pooh-24 from Los Angeles

The People's Court is another of those syndicated daytime court shows that sprung out to public display a few years ago, with nearly all of them filled with sloppy minor court cases presided over by judges in love with themselves and the tv camera.

The People's Court heads the list of these horrid court shows, once headed by former New York City mayor Ed Koch at the start, and now presided over by a one Marilyn Milian.

Milian is terrible. She acts too haughty, she is full of herself, and she treats the court's defendants and plaintiffs, alike, with distain and rudeness. It is safe to say that if you are female and the plaintiff,Milian shall treat you fine. But if you on the opposite side and male, forget it.Milian will treat you like you are dirt on her shoes.

Most judge shows are a strange form of entertainment that is if you call these types of cases entertaining.Perhaps Milian's crude wisecracks are supposed to make it more entertaining than it really is,but that's doubtful. To anyone with a small civil case in the future,go to your local court and hope your case is never tried on "The People's Court".
