Wachowski's Testing For Next Film

A photo from Arianna Huffington's Twitter feed is causing a small online stir as the feed claims it's from a film shoot she just did in Chicago with "The Matrix" and "Speed Racer" directors the Wachoskis.
The story? "Iraq from the perspective of the future". Is this a whole new project we've never heard of? Not really. Chud reports that the shoot is part of a few days of camera tests the pair are doing for a new project which is still a while off.
So what is the project? That's unconfirmed though Cinematical speculates that is an adaptation of David Mitchell's 2004 novel "Cloud Atlas" which the pair bought the rights to earlier this year. At last report "The International" and "Run Lola Run" writer/director Tom Tykwer was working on the screenplay.

Using the magic of Twitter, Arianna Huffington, found of the liberal news blog The Huffington Post, may have leaked the news of the next movie from the Wachowski Siblings (I would say “Brothers” but Huffington tweeted the first image of Lana, formerly Larry, Wachowski). Peter at /Film broke the story of Huffington tweeting photos from the set of what she believed to be the Wachowskis look back on the Iraq War from 90 years in the future. The photos show Huffington in front of a green screen wearing a funky hairdo. However, Devin over at Chud reports that Huffington was just shooting test footage-most likely for the cameras which are Red. But camera tests for what?
Erik over at Cinematical pointed out that the Wachowskis optioned David Mitchell’s novel Cloud Atlas, which is an anthology of six separate but loosely related narratives of varying times, places, and genres. Back to Peter,

Curtis' superpower gives a glimpse of the Misfits' lives before the storm. Plus Dexter Fletcher turns up as Nathan's dad
Spoiler alert: This weekly blog is for those who have been watching Misfits - don't read ahead if you haven't seen episode three yet
Richard Vine's episode four blog
After last week's slight lull in proceedings, episode four of Misfits shows life before the storm for the Misfits. Curtis explores the limits of his power, we see what Tony and Sally's relationship was like, find out why Nathan is doing community service for stealing some pick'n'mix - and there's even a Dexter Fletcher cameo.
Curtis is at the heart of the action this time, using his power to rewind his life to the point just before it all went wrong for him. It's a great device, like watching a combination of Run Lola Run and Groundhog Day as he goes

There's a lot going on in the horror world right now, a welcome change for the traditionally bland month of December. Below the jump you'll find quick updates from around the web and the trades for True Blood, Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, Daybreakers, The Chronicles Of Riddick 3, Zombieland 2, Invasion, [Rec] 3, Resident Evil: Afterlife, and more.
Castings:
True Blood has gained a new werewolf and a new vampire. THR announced that Ugly Betty's Grant Fowler has joined the cast as a werewolf named Coot, with newcomer Theo Alexander as Talbot, an "intensely beautiful" vampire. This comes just a day after Prison Break's Marshall Allman and Quarantine's Denis O'Hare joined the cast (as Sam's lost brother and the Vampire King of Mississippi) as reported on our Starlog site. Filming on Season 3 began this week.
Night Of The Living Dead: Origins, a CGI "reimagining/prequel" of/to George A. Romero

Bang Goes the Theory: The Human Power Station
8pm, BBC1
The Bgtt team return for this illuminating experiment. A team of 80 (very fit) cyclists are hooked up to a special generator to supply 12 hours'-worth of electricity for a family of four – who don't know where the power for their kettle is coming from. You'll want to turn your TV off afterwards.
Wonderland – The Trouble With Mother
9.50pm, BBC2
Frederick Hegelman lives with his 80-year-old mother Pauline, a former concert pianist whose house is a squalid mess due to her obsession with collecting absolutely everything. Pauline treats Frederick terribly, which may help to explain why he has never left home: he's seeking the love and acceptance she never gave him. "He's an absolute damn nuisance," says Pauline, as the rather sweet Frederick brings her a cup of tea.

Albert Pyun Prepping New 3D Vampire Film

We're still waiting for Albert Pyun's Tales of an Ancient Empire to be released, but that's not stopping the busy director from looking ahead to his next project. He just updated his MySpace Blog with some news that has us more than a little intrigued. Read on for the details.
"We are beginning the early stages of prep next week on a new film and will begin shooting January 2. And yes, it revolves around vampires. But not the way you'd imagine. I can't say much yet except it's a hybrid of genres and will likely be shot in 3D. It's definitely going to be somewhat experimental -- if you can imagine a movie like 'Tales' crossed with 'Run Lola Run'. Female and male leads, more romantic with a cluster of superhuman villains trying to wreck their relationship. It's yet 'Untitled' until all the agreements are finalized this week.

Check Out 'The Messenger,' 'Uncertainty' And 'William Kunstler: Disturbing The Universe' In This Week's unLimited

After the record-breaking success of "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" over the weekend, I'm more hopeful for films starting out in limited release. This week's recommendations may not have the distinction of being championed by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, so if you find any of them worth seeing based on my recommendation, it may be more necessary for you to make the effort to get them to play near you.
"The Messenger"
What it is: A skewed romantic drama about a young Iraq War vet (Ben Foster) who is assigned to the Army's Casualty Notification service, where he's partnered with a captain played by Woody Harrelson. While delivering the bad news, he falls for one of the notified widows (Samantha Morton).
Reasons to see it: The film has won awards at the Berlin and Deauville film festivals and as of this writing has a perfect critical score at Rotten Tomatoes.

Will Ugly Betty Move to Wednesdays? If So, What Does that Mean for Lost?

»
Last night we mentioned that ABC was going to pass up on ordering the back-nine episodes of Eastwick, effectively ending its run when the already-filmed episodes have aired.
The question remains: what happens to Eastwick's 10:00 p.m. spot on Wednesday nights slot? That's prime TV real estate. For a number of years Lost has aired on Wednesday nights, at both 9:00 and 10:00. The season 6 return date is still undecided, but with Eastwick's demise, is a 10:00 spot on Wednesday night guaranteed for Lost's final season?
Not so fast, according to E!Online's Kristen:
According to sources, ABC higher-ups are considering moving Ugly Betty to Wednesdays at 10 in January as part of a flashy relaunch of the show in an effort to save it. The thinking is that Betty would complement new hits Modern Family and Cougar Town nicely, and make ABC a solid destination for comedy on Wednesday night.

Some of them joined Hollywood already - but have you seen them at their Best?

It's a pity many of the roles given to them in Hollywood are not what you can call 'prestige' roles. Most of them are given the usual run-of-the-mill characters. Why not take a good look at their previous works and find out why we think they're awesome!

# 10 - Maria Valverde (Spain) - Maria Valverde was born in Madrid and says she always wanted to become an actress. She finally fulfilled her dream at the age of 16 with a leading role in Manuel Martín Cuenca movie, La flaqueza del bolchevique.

House Is Back!

House is back and I have no idea what that means.
Last season’s finale was so jaw-droppingly good that I spent the better part of my summer wondering what this season, the show’s sixth, was going to be like. My favorite fantasy was imagining House living with, and helping the cast of, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. For while the show started off as, and continues to be, a medical mystery; it has evolved beyond that.
The first season, and even into the second season, the show revolved around the genius that is Gregory House. Every episode was about how he, and his team, could find the truth of the situation in the smallest, most mundane of details. We, the audience, were just along for the ride. We were there to watch House harass his colleagues and then name the Obscure Medical Phenomenon of the Week.

Tom Tykwer Directing German-Language Film 'Drei' Next

Run Lola Run and Perfume director Tom Tykwer is set to make his first German-language feature in nearly a decade titled Drei (which means Three in German). The film is a comedy-drama centered on a love triangle. Tykwer's last German-language film was The Princess and the Warrior from 2000. Produced by Berlin-based X Filme, Drei is described as a "tragicomic film about love, morality and gender in late modern Germany, set against late modern Berlin backdrops -- a story of a love triangle with social and cultural-philosophical depth." Sounds like it could be a good return to form for Tykwer and a return to homeland.
Although I didn't really care for The International, I still love Tykwer, and just think back to Run Lola Run or one of my all-time favorites, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. If anyone also saw Paris Je T'aime, his sequence in that film was

Julian Gilbey exclusive interview: British director talks ‘Reckoning Day’

British director Julian Gilbey, best known for his 2007 film Rise of the Footsolider, finally sees his directorial debut, Reckoning Day, released on DVD next week. An ultra-violent action movie made on a shoestring budget, Reckoning Day was completed in 2002 – so it’s been a long time coming.
As a film it is certainly flawed: bearing the hallmarks of a director who, by his own admission, was looking to experiment and find his way, and featuring a cast of willing but limited novice actors. The script is often suspect and the progression of events sometimes nonsensical but, as Julian explains, mitigating factors there most certainly were. Amicable, well-spoken, and forthcoming, he discusses Reckoning Day itself, the difficulties facing low-budget movie production, and what the future holds…
First things first - why the 7 year wait for Reckoning Day on DVD?
We’ve had a nightmare with distribution basically! Unfortunately I got terribly

We've seen promo materials outdo the movies it's supposed to promote before. Dash and Cash, though, is pretty out there for a supplemental material. The remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 opens in Japan this week, and local distributor United Pictures hired the hyperkinetic Japanese cult director Sabu—a guy who seems to have let Run Lola Run inspire his entire career—to make this strange Pelham-inspired short as part of its marketing. Call it a hunch, but I don't think Sabu bothered seeing the Tony Scott film.

Mickey: First off, have you seen this Season 6 preview? Because I just noticed something awesome: Dr. House is kissing the brilliant Franka Potente (Run Lola Run, the Bourne films), and she's wearing a lab coat. Hmm... Until we get to that, though, only Wilson and House will appear in the season premiere, which takes place at the Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. After that, look for Foreman to take the lead back at Princeton-Plainsboro, which will cause a rift in his relationship with Thirteen. What do you people have against the lovely Olivia Wilde anyway?

Review of "And Then Came Lola"

»
And Then Came Lola is a sugar rush of a lesbian movie.
Starring Ashleigh Sumner, Jill Bennett, and Cathy DeBuono, and directed by Ellen Seidler and Megan Siler, it plays out like a twisty, lighter Run Lola Run with a massive dose of queerness.
Lola (Sumner) is a laid back photographer who’s on the verge of a romantic breakthrough with her new girlfriend, Casey (Bennett), who is the straitlaced Bert to Lola’s Ernie. As the film begins, we witness a fantastic sex scene between the two dissolve into a dream, as Lola’s phone interrupts her reverie. It’s Casey, and she needs Lola to pick up a set of all-important prints for a crucial business meeting with Danielle (DeBuono), who also happens to be Casey’s ex-girlfriend.
Lola runs out the door — quite literally — and encounters a tragic-comedy of obstacles keeping her from being punctual the one time she needs to be.
