Third "Riddick" Film Begins Scouting

6 December 2009 10:17 AM, PST | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

Location scouting on a new film in the Riddick franchise has begun in New Zealand says Vin Diesel's Facebook page. The post also indicates David Twohy has finished the script for the third film featuring the character. Diesel first played the gruff, sliver-eyed anti-hero Riddick in the well-received cult hit "Pitch Black" in 2000. Four years later he reprised the role in 2004's generally panned big-budget flop "The Chronicles Of Riddick". Diesel has also voiced the character in the animated short "Dark Fury" and the video games 'Escape from Butcher Bay' and 'Assault on Dark Athena'. Twohy has indicated the film will be an R-rated feature and more modestly budgeted along 'Pitch' lines which allows him and Vin more creative control. …

“The Chronicles of Riddick” Sequel Begins Scouting in New Zealand

3 December 2009 4:10 PM, PST | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

According to Vin Diesel’s Facebook page, the third Chronicles of Riddick film is about to get underway.

The “Chronicles of Riddick 3” is currently in pre-production and has already begun scouting locations in New Zealand.

Diesel’s Fb status update:

The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.

Diesel first played the gruff, sliver-eyed anti-hero Riddick in the well-received cult hit “Pitch Black” in 2000. Four years later he reprised the role in 2004’s generally panned big-budget flop “The Chronicles of Riddick“.

Diesel has also voiced the character in the animated short “Dark Fury” and the video games “Escape from Butcher Bay” and “Assault on Dark Athena“.

In August, director David Twohy (Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, A Perfect Getaway) discussed that he’d sketched out two possible ideas for continuing the films and was working to get the third film in front of the …

Another Riddick movie on the way?

3 December 2009 3:31 AM, PST | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

Vin Diesel may be returning to the role that made him a star, if rumours that another Riddick movie is being prepped prove true. According to the gravel-voiced star's Facebook page: "the Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting". Perhaps Universal is looking to fill the franchise gap currently left by the faltering Bourne 4, or maybe Diesel and director David Twohy have got a killer concept. Pitch Black was a breakout hit for director and star, but sequel The Chronicles of...

Vin Diesel Provides Update on Third Riddick Movie

3 December 2009 1:17 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Not too long ago Vin Diesel used his Facebook page to inform fans of David Twohy’s Riddick films that the script for the proposed third movie had been completed. Diesel has now posted on his Facebook page:

“The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.”

As a fan of both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick I welcome the update, but at the same time I am only taking it with a grain of salt. The reason for this slight skepticism is that there have been so many issues regarding any future Riddick sequels/prequels that the apparent completed script and now location scouting seem a bit out of the blue. Hopefully the film has secured its budget and pre-production is in fact underway. …

Is Riddick 3 Moving Forward?

2 December 2009 11:57 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

It's only a nugget, but it feels pretty solid. Vin Diesel, gravelly voiced cheerleader for multiple ailing movie franchises, has announced on his Facebook page that at least some sort of pre-production is underway on a third Chronicle of Riddick."The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting." is the full status update. But it's significant in that it's the first we've heard of something solid actually happening on the project. The last we knew, back at the beginning of August, came from Pitch Black and Chronicles director David Twohy. He said some ideas were being thrown around, and that the expense and studio concessions of Chronicles were a mistake, leading part three back to much smaller-scale territory. But he also suggested that a smaller budget might be a problem for Diesel, who apparently doesn't get out of bed for less than his usual fee. Vin Diesel Hints that Chronicles of Riddick Sequel is Gearing Up

2 December 2009 9:31 PM, PST | SciFiCool.com | See recent SciFiCool.com news »

Apparently when Vin Diesel talks, he likes to say “Haha”. I mean, I’ve never actually seen someone type “Haha” as often as Vin Diesel does, but I suppose the man does it in real life, so it naturally translate to his typing. Or at least, that’s what I surmised from these entries at his Facebook account, where Vin Diesel has not only been hinting at a “Chronicles of Riddick” sequel on the near horizon, but seems to actually be saying it’s going to happen, and soon. As recently as November 6, Diesel wrote this: The Riddick script is completed… great job Dt. Dt is, of course, David Twohy, the guy who created the franchise, and has written/directed both “Pitch Black” and the first “Chronicles of Riddick”, and along with Diesel, is the driving force behind the franchise getting back to the big screen after the lackluster reception …

'The Chronicles of Riddick' Sequel Begins Scouting in New Zealand

2 December 2009 7:47 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

"The Chronicles of Riddick" sequel has begun to show its shape. Following Vin Diesel's claim that the follow-up to the 2004 film has been developed, the actor has taken it to his Facebook to inform that the movie's crew have begun scouting. "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting," so read the statement posted on Tuesday, December 1.

The 42-year-old actor previously revealed that two sequels of the sci-fi thriller have been worked on and "Riddick" screenwriter was writing the scripts. On the reason why the sequels take a long time to be developed, he explained, "Everyone knows I love the Riddick character and I'm always working on it. It just takes five years to make another one because David Twohy and I are so precious about it."

Later, the "Fast and Furious" star revealed that the third installment of "Riddick" movie will feature some epic …

New Riddick Movie To Shoot Soon?

2 December 2009 5:22 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

According to Vin Diesel's Facebook page, that just may be the case. Here is what he said in one of his latest posts: The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting. Sure, scouting doesn't mean much, but that's still a pretty big leap for something that we weren't sure was even being written. I guess this means we can expect a formal announcement soon...or not. What do you guys think about the "Riddick" series? I think they're alright so far. "Pitch Black" was a sorta fun monster movie and "Chronicles of Riddick" was a bit cheesy in spots - more or less via some of the costuming choices and production design - but entertaining. I will admit that I liked the ending a lot, and was curious to see where they would take the story next. I think the main problem for me is …

Vin Diesel Continues to Pretend Like a 3rd Chronicles Of Riddick Movie Is Happening

2 December 2009 5:02 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

On his Facebook page [via ComingSoon], Vin Diesel announced that “The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting.”  Wow!  A new Chronicles of Riddick movie! That is exciting!  So who’s financing this adventure?  I know you’re going back down to your Pitch Black budget but I’m sure in this economy, someone out there is willing to give you guys money to make a movie with only a strong cult following and no broader appeal.  I would assume that David Twohy would return to direct, but that would be weird because in August he told Steve that his next project is a film called Crying Havoc.

Here’s what I think is the truth: Vin Diesel is lying.  He is lying his ass off to continue interest not in a 3rd Riddick movie, but in Vin Diesel and letting the fans know that he’s …

Riddick Getting Set to Return for Round 3!

2 December 2009 4:39 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The original Pitch Black is probably one of our all-time favorite sci-fi/horror hybrids here in the Dread Central offices. The second one with its neutered PG-13 rating .... not so much. We're all praying the third time's the charm for an R-rated return to form for the Vin Diesel franchise, and the actor himself just dropped a pretty interesting little tidbit!

Over on Vin Diesel's Facebook page the actor writes, "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting."

Exciting indeed!

While we weren't exactly huge fans of Diesel’s second time around as Riddick, it’s hard to deny that there definitely is some potential to go further in the story of one of the more badass criminals to fight evil in the universe. More to come!

Chronicles of Riddick Sequel Begins Location Scouting

2 December 2009 4:17 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

For those of you looking for the return of Vin Diesel as arguably his best on-screen character, Riddick, it looks like it’s one step closer to reality.

On his Facebook page yesterday, Diesel put up an update which included a line revealing that the team behind the next Riddick movie were scouting out locations already – a great thing to hear for those of us anticipating the sequel to 2004’s Chronicles of Riddick.

“The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already… that’s exciting”

The last we heard on the Riddick 3 front was from writer David Twohy, the man who wrote A Perfect Getaway in addition to writing and directing the Riddick films. That was back in August and at the time, he was working out two ideas for the sequel, one of which that would be Rated R. There was studio interest in another PG-13 version, but …

Vin Diesel Drops Huge Riddick Bomb, Scouting Underway?

2 December 2009 11:20 AM, PST | bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news »

It's too bad my memory is as bad as a feeble-minded cat because recently I had heard that Vin Diesel would be returning to his roots in the near future. I don't recall where I heard it, but it doesn't really matter because on the actor's official Facebook page he dropped a bomb. "The Riddick team is in New Zealand location scouting already... that's exciting." Back in August, Pitch Black director David Twohy told Bloody Disgusting in an exclusive interview that he was working hard on a new R-rated Riddick film -- maybe even two. While I'm not fan of Black, or its sequel The Chronicles of Riddick, I still find the mythology fascinating and am very much looking forward to a new entry in the franchise. Hopefully it'll bring back some of those horror elements that made it popular in the first place? …

You can also catch Micthell in Breck Eisner's upcoming Crazies remake on February 26, 2010. Mitchell has appeared nude in High Art (1998) and Feast of Love. She was also recently in Surrogates with Bruce Willis and starred in Pitch Black with Vin Diesel. A very impressive resume and the reason we are welcoming her to our Cht section. …

Review: Surrogates

25 September 2009 12:11 AM, PDT | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

It's funny but Surrogates deserves the title I, Robot more than the Will Smith movie that came out in 2004. First and foremost, was Will ever a robot in his movie? Hell no but in Surrogates Bruce Willis can claim full metal jacket status. Secondly, James Cromwell, the actor that played the guy that made the robots in I, Robot, well, he’s the maker of the robots in Surrogates. It's like the people that made Surrogates saw I, Robot and said to themselves, "Hey, that’s a neat idea. Why don’t we do something like that too?"

At the heart of its story Surrogates has a better hook than I, Robot: what if you could live your life in a robot body? You could jump off a building and be guaranteed to survive, you could speed date all weekend long and never have to worry about getting a social disease, …

Reed’s Bargain Bin: Babylon A.D.

14 September 2009 6:20 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Reed’s Bargain Bin [1] is a recurring column where Reed Farrington tells us about a movie he bought for under $5, and whether or not he regrets the purchase. Even though Film Junk followers would probably prefer to read current Tiff film reviews than a review of an older science fiction film, I have decided to submit this review of “Babylon A.D.” And at the risk of further enforcing the view that I have a poor taste in films, my review is generally a favorable one in contrast to popular opinion. I was aware that this film did poorly at the box office, but I didn’t realize how many bad reviews this film received until after I had watched the film and checked out the reviews on the Internet. The reason why I watched this film is that I try to watch all the high profile science fiction movies regardless of audience reception. …

The Genre-Tweaking Pleasures of David Twohy

13 August 2009 1:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

This post contains some vague spoilers for A Perfect Getaway.

David Twohy's A Perfect Getaway was not destined for commercial glory. Pitched as a generic tropical-set actioner, with no big-name stars and little marketing muscle behind it, its middling box office performance was a foregone conclusion. Last weekend's $5.7 million result seemed pretty much right.

Depending on your point of view, this is either fitting or tragic. Because David Twohy is one of the most fascinating writers and directors working in genre film today. Hollywood has plenty of talented technical craftsmen -- filmmakers who can make an action movie crackle. But it has precious few people who are consistently doing interesting things with action films, thrillers, science-fiction and horror. Twohy is not content to deliver generically competent entertainment. There's always a twist.

The man is best known for the Riddick duology -- Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. I …
