Check Out Some New Clips From Chuck Palahniuk's 'Choke'

5 September 2008 12:01 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

I was fortunate enough to check out Choke earlier this week, and as you may know, it's the adaptation of a book by Chuck Palahniuk, who has not seen another of his works hit the big screen since Fight Club. That's nearly impossible to believe, since Fight Club was nine years ago.

Choke stars the obscenely underrated Sam Rockwell as a sex addict who, in order to pay for an expensive nursing facility for his mother, makes extra money by choking on food in restaurants and falling in the laps of the richest diners available. The hope is that they'll feel such a strong connection with the person they saved, that they'll chip in and help him with "emergency dental surgery" or some other excuse he can come up with to con them.

His real job is as a historical interpreter, basically a character at a colonial-themed village. So that's the set-up,

And The Next Palahniuk Making It To Film Is …

2 September 2008 9:40 AM, PDT | From TwitchFilm.net | See recent Twitch news

So, I’m about to disappear into the vortex of the Toronto International Film Festival, which will eat waking moment of my time for the next two weeks or so, but before I disappear, here’s a bit of news too good to not mention.

That there are a host of Chuck Palahniuk novels wending their way through development to become feature films is not exactly news.  At one point - I believe shortly before Rant was published - it was widely reported that every single book the Fight Club author had written had been optioned by someone, somewhere, and the only real question was which would come first.  Two answers.

One, Francis Lawrence is currently working on Survivor.  Also not exactly news, but a fact that makes me happy.  It’s one of my favorites and I think Lawrence will do well with it.

Two, a mystery Swede has

Chuck Palahniuk's Latest Adaptation, 'Lullaby'

1 September 2008 12:10 PM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

Some big news comes in this morning regarding future adaptations of popular Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Choke) novels, one that might interest B-d readers. What if a song turned you into a serial killer? That's the premise of Lullaby, the latest Palahniuk story being adapted to the big screen. Inside you can read about the film, which apparently already has a director attached to get behind the camera. "Lullaby and Survivor are the next to Palahniuk films going into production," the website reports. "a Swedish director is doing Lullaby. He told me his name, but pronounced in with the proper Swedish inflections, so I know what it sounds like but not how it reads. Ulfer Jansen is the best way I can translate it, and Chuck said he's done a lot of commercials and music videos, but this is his first feature."

Chuck Palahniuk's Rant Headed For the Big Screen, Too!

26 August 2008 10:35 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

With author Chuck Palahniuk in the spotlight yet again, I think Hollywood is realizing his books make for great movies. I know we had Fight Club in 1999 and Choke coming up this fall, but what other books of his are being adapted? We've already mentioned Survivor and Invisible Monsters before, but apparently Rant is up next as well. The book was first published just last year and is reportedly already been picked up by a production company. Thanks to SlashFilm, we're pointed to Palahniuk's official website, where they announce that it was indeed picked up and is in early development stages. Unfortunately there aren't any additional details, including who picked it up and whether it will be a small project or big (because that will make a big difference), but for now this is exciting enough anyway. While I'm not personally the biggest Palahniuk fan, I took a quick look

Palahniuk's Rant op

26 August 2008 7:33 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

Apparently, 'Rant' by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club) has been his latest novel to be optioned. There are no details other than that, and that it is already in the early stages of development. When reached for a comment Palahniuk vaulted onto his diamond encrusted Nimbus 2000 and said "ch-ching, mother fuckers!!" In the novel, Buster "Rant" Casey escapes from his hometown to becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing, where participants dress their...

Exclusive Clip: 'Choke'

25 August 2008 8:02 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Filed under: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Fandom, Home Entertainment, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips

Cinematical has just received this exclusive clip from the upcoming film Choke, based on one of my personal favorite Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club) books. Choke stars Sam Rockwell as Victor Mancini, a snarky sex addict who cons well-to-do folks out of their money by fake-choking in restaurants while subsequently feeding off the sympathy of others. He then uses this money to help pay his mother's (Anjelica Huston) mental hospital bills. In the clip above -- which is one of a few flashbacks in the film -- young Victor and his mother visit the zoo ... at night ... and they're not exactly there to buy cotton candy. You can learn more about Choke over at its official website. I saw the film back at Sundance and liked it quite a bit -- especially Rockwell's off-the-charts performance as Mancini. Definitely

Sam Rockwell Brings Experience To New Role

24 August 2008 6:26 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sam Rockwell considers himself the perfect choice to play a womanising scam artist in new movie Choke - because he boasts a seedy past himself.

The single actor plays Vincent Mancini in the movie adaptation of Fight Club author Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name.

Mancini visits sex addiction groups to pick up women and makes money by pretending to choke in restaurants, and then conning the good samaritans who 'save' him out of money.

Rockwell reveals he researched the role by visiting therapy sessions - but was able to draw on some of his own experiences.

He tells the New York Post, "Yeah, I went to a few sex addiction meetings. (But) I've had my own history - I've been to prostitutes and massage parlours and stuff. Back in the old days. So I understand the mindset a little."

I don't know if this is old or what, but I haven't seen it before so here is a picture of Brad Pitt kissing Megan Brown in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button. In the movie, Pitt plays a dude who ages in reverse. David Fincher (Fight Club) directs. At this point, I'm basically ready to picket for this movie to win every Oscar at the ceremony. Even those science and technology ones that no one really cares about. I want this movie to take everything. I mean, I literally want when the last...

Lawrence circles Palahniuk's 'Survivor'

16 August 2008 12:10 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

I Am Legend director Francis Lawrence will helm an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuck's novel Survivor for his next film. Twentieth Century Fox initially planned to bring the book to the screen in 1999, but shelved the project following the September 11 attacks. The novel opens with an airplane hijacker telling his life story to a black box recorder. Palahniuk explained: "David Fincher (director of Fight Club) was really pushing [Fox] in their development and they'd gotten Jake Paltrow - Gwyneth's brother - to write a screenplay and people were very happy with that. "They'd started to cast it but then 9/11 happened and that seemed to harpoon all kinds of transgressive comedies." The author confirmed that Lawrence (more)

Clooney To Plough More Cash Into Pitt's New Orleans Project

15 August 2008 12:00 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

George Clooney is planning to invest more money in pal Brad Pitt's housing project in New Orleans, Louisiana after sponsoring the building of two homes earlier this year.

The Fight Club star launched the Make It Right Foundation to raise funds for housing in the city after the devastation caused by 2005's Hurricane Katrina.

And Pitt's Ocean's Eleven co-star Clooney is keen to donate more to the charitable project - adding to the $300,000 (GBP150,000) he's already handed over to help those less fortunate.

He says, "I've bought a couple of those houses already that he's building. You can build a house for $150,000 (GBP75,000), which is amazing. So I bought two of them and plan on buying more as they're doing an amazing thing there."

And Clooney has also confessed to his huge admiration for Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie's charitable efforts: "There is a tendency to make fun of people who get involved in these sorts of things. Brad went there, builds houses, he can do a lot of other things with his time. He and Angie really put their money where their mouth is. I'm always very impressed by them."

Palahniuk keen on 'Fight Club' musical

15 August 2008 11:33 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Chuck Palahniuk has revealed that Fight Club: The Musical is still on the cards. The author's dark novel was previously turned into a feature film in 1999 by David Fincher, with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in the lead roles. Palahniuk, who will see a film adaptation of his bestseller Choke hit cinemas on November 21, admitted that Fincher is still eager to push the musical into production. He said: "Once a year, for the last two years, [he] has called me and said, 'Are we still doing this?' And every time I think that it's dead, someone tells me that (more)

By Aaron Hillis

Sure, he's a nü metal superstar with over 67 million albums sold worldwide, but what Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst always intended to do was direct. The singer of "Nookie" and "Break Stuff" (who, incidentally, filmed both those and all of his band's videos) took the indie scene by surprise when his debut feature "The Education of Charlie Banks" premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival. Not much more than a year later, Durst has already taken the canvas chair again with a bigger project, the family-friendly dramedy "The Longshots." Based on the real life events of Jasmine Plummer, the first girl to play Pop Warner football, the film stars Keke Palmer as the young quarterback prodigy and Ice Cube as her unemployed, apathetic uncle, whose spirit returns when he becomes her coach. I rapped with Durst about his new career trajectory, the movies that make him laugh and weep,

Rex Mundi, a project being produced and possibly starred in by Johnny Depp (is this true? Umm sure, why not), is now looking for a director after having had Jim Uhls (Fight Club) complete a first draft. The story - originally a comic book from Dark Horse - is a quest for the Holy Grail told as a murder mystery. It is set in the year 1933, in an alternate history Europe, where magic is real, feudalism persisted, and the Protestant Reformation was crushed by a still politically powerful Roman...
