The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

The following information relates to the uncensored version of The Idiots, not the R-rated version. Much of the more graphic material is, presumably, not present in the R-rated version.

A scene at a swimming pool includes some breast nudity, not particularly dwelt upon, and a brief but clear image of an erection.

A number of scenes include incidental nudity, both breast and frontal of both genders. This is rarely dwelt upon, although often quite clear.

A man pretending to be mentally handicapped is essentially forced to urinate by two other men. His genitals are exposed and one of the men holds his penis until he complies.

An offscreen woman shouts at her husband, accusing (correctly) of having 'screwed' another woman.

There is an orgy sequence mid-way into the film. This includes clear images of full frontal male and female nudity, including erections, images of people pressed up against one another, thrusting, and close-up penetration. This scene isn't very long, although it is very graphic, and the image of penetration is evidence that at least some of the sex in this scene is unsimulated.

Violence & Gore

A man is restrained after losing his cool at a local council member. He throws various objects and has to be tied down.

A man pushes another man to the ground after he refuses to let him drive away. There is some blood visible on his face after.

A man slaps his wife, whereupon she yelps.

Profanity

Approximately 30 uses of 'fuck' and its derivatives. Two uses of 'cunt' in an aggressive manner. Other milder profanities.

Frequent use of 'spasser' and 'retarded' to describe mentally handicapped people.

Characters are seen drinking socially on occasions. None drink to drunkenness.

A character is suggested to be on medication and to have neglected taking it.

The film is about a group of people who pretend to be mentally handicapped for the sheer thrill of it. Some of their behavior is likely to be found insulting to people with mental disabilites. Towards the end of the film, there are some very intense scenes, including when a father takes his daughter away from the group, much to the group's protestations, and a harrowing scene towards the end of the film where it is revealed that one of the characters has recently lost her baby.
