Continuity: When Norman drags Marion's body out of the bathroom, we see her move her head to accommodate the dragging. (4:3 TV only. Marion's head is not visible in the wide-screen version.)
Continuity: As Marion collapses and slides down against the shower wall after being stabbed, she leaves a streak of blood from a wound on her back. When Norman returns to the bathroom with the mop and bucket, there is no blood on the wall to wipe away because it was added by computer after filming.
Continuity: Like the 1960 film, as Marion waits at a traffic light in downtown Phoenix, a lady carrying a package tied with red ribbon (string in 1960) followed by a man with a jacket over his left arm cross the street directly in front of Marion's car as Lowry and Cassidy enter the frame on the left. Unlike the 1960 film, after Lowry and Cassidy have passed by Marion's car left-to-right, the same lady with the package and man with the jacket are seen crossing from the right again.
Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Marion subtracted the $4,036.00 cost of her "new" car from $400,000, she made a $1.00 error and wrote $395,963.00.
Continuity: In the hardware store, we see the lady that bought insecticide walk past Lila toward the front of the store, but never hear or see her leave. Arbogast has been standing outside the door with his face close to the glass watching Sam and Lila but he did not move to allow the lady to exit. Also, the bells on the door do not sound until Arbogast enters.
Continuity: The bell on the office desk moves between when Marion Crane first arrives and when she and Bates enter the office together. (4:3 TV version only. In the wide-screen version, nothing is visible on the motel desk when Marion first enters the office upon arriving. The bell is only visible while Marion registers.)
Continuity: As in the shower scene, no blood is seen on the knife as Bates repeatedly stabs Arbogast on the stairs.
Continuity: Arbogast's line stating he will return in an hour or less was shortened, removing the "or less" piece, yet Lila still quotes him as saying "an hour or less" after the phone call.
Crew or equipment visible: The helicopter carrying the camera is visible on the mirrored windows of the first building in the opening shot.
Continuity: The cars parked on the street as seen from inside Marion's car do not match the cars as seen from outside.
Continuity: When Norman is spying on Marion through the holes in the wall, the long shot shows Norman's face about a foot away from the smaller hole. In the closeup, his eyeball is right up against the smaller hole on the outer sheetrock wall. When we return to the long shot, he's back to a foot away.
Continuity: The opening scene is supposed to be 2:48 in the afternoon, but it's quite obvious that it was filmed at sunrise, probably on a Saturday or Sunday morning. There is no street activity, and the light from the right (east) is very weak and nearly horizontal. If it had been shot in mid-afternoon the sun would have been higher, the light stronger, and shadows pronounced and angled.
Miscellaneous: When Norman wraps Marion's body up in the shower curtain you see her feet move from being horizontal to vertical just before she gets dragged away by him.
Continuity: When Norman finds Marion dead in the bathroom, he turns out the lights and the neon outside, but when he's dragging Marion's body to the trunk, the lights and the neon are on again.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs: Incorrectly regarded as goof: Many of the continuity errors were deliberately included because they appeared in the original Psycho (1960).
Anachronisms: The bundles of money Marion Crane has are of $1,000 bills (as clearly seen in one shot) when in actuality circulation of bills larger than $100 were halted by President Richard Nixon in 1969.
