  • Factual errors: The city Grosse Pointe is misspelled "Gross Point" on the tree removal notice.

  • Continuity: When the boys are in Economics class they look outside, where they see Lux sitting on the grass. The guy that is with Lux throws some grass at her, but in the next shot the grass can be seen on her shoulder, but the guy didn't throw it there.

  • Continuity: The woman news reporter who comes to interview the family after Cecilia's death tells Mrs. Lisbon she's from Channel 2, when in fact we can clearly see from her news report moments later a Channel 8 logo on the screen (and on her truck).

  • Continuity: Lux's pants change from when she gets up from the couch in the living room to the shot of her showing Trip the door.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: One reporter states that Bonnie Lisbon is the youngest of the five. This is blatantly wrong, as she was fifteen years old (placing her smack in the middle of the five), but it can be chalked up to sloppy reporting.

  • Factual errors: In the scenes in Mr. Lisbon's classroom there is a banner above the chalkboard that displays an incorrect value of pi.

  • Anachronisms: A song playing on the radio when the girls are driving to the prom is Sloan's "Everything You've Done Wrong", which was not released until 1996.

  • Anachronisms: As the sisters and their dates drive home from the dance in the Cadillac, a white (1988-'91) Honda Civic hatchback appears parked on a driveway in the background.

  • Continuity: The amount of peach schnapps in the bottle changes from almost half empty to full when Trip hands the bottle to Lux's sister.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the girls' father takes a picture of them, we hear the whine of a flash charging, but dad's Instamatic doesn't have an electronic flash - it uses a flashcube.

  • Factual errors: During the end credits, one of the Sloan songs is titled as "End it Peacefully" when its actual title is "The Lines You Amend" from the album "One Chord to Another" released in 1996.

  • Revealing mistakes: When the girls are locked up in their house, the front lawn is slowly covered with brown leaves to show the passing of several weeks. However, there is only one tree on the front lawn, and its leaves are green. The surrounding trees are also green and none of them show evidence of falling leaves.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Mr. Lisbon is telling the girls the names of the boys who will be taking them to the dance, he refers to one boy as "Jake Connelly" when later on the same boy is referred to as Joe Hill Connelly (which is the name of the character in the novel). This could be an error on the part of the character (and not the actor's error or a script error).

  • Anachronisms: This movie takes place in the mid-1970s yet a Ford Bronco from the early-1980s yanks the fence Cecilia impaled herself on.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): The father refers to his model airplane as a B model North American P-51 Mustang in British service, however, the model aircraft is actually a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.

  • Continuity: When Peter comes over to the Lisbon house for dinner Cecilia's bandages disappear and reappear between shots.

  • Revealing mistakes: During football practice, right after Kevin Head offers Trip three joints to take one of the Lisbon girls to homecoming, the shadow of the boom pole is visible on Trip's head and back.

  • Anachronisms: When Lux and Tripp are crowned at the homecoming dance, "Come Sail Away" is playing. This song was not released until the 1977 Grand Illusion album while the movie is set in 1974-1975.

  • Errors in geography: When the boys are talking about traveling with the girls to the Far East, the narrator says that Cecilia hasn't died but is instead now a bride in Calcutta. However, the picture shown of Cecilia in traditional Indian wedding attire is in front of the Taj Mahal, which is located in Agra. Calcutta is in Eastern India, and Agra is in northern India.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): In the scene directly after Mr. Lisbon is talking about Vehn diagrams, the girl locks her locker in such a way which reveals the back side of the lock, on which is clearly visible the sticker that tells you the combination.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When the Lisbon sisters and the boys are playing music to each other over the phone, the song chosen by the girls starts playing while the head shell/needle on their turntable is descending, before it makes contact with the record.

  • Continuity: When Trip is introducing himself to the movie, he talks about the first time he met Lux. He says he met her for the first time when he walked into the wrong history class. But when they show him walking into class, the door says Language Arts.

  • Continuity: The tree which was cut down due to disease is shown still standing in shots where the girls are held under house arrest.

  • Continuity: When Trip comes in late for school after flirting for his tardy pass, he walks into the halls, leaving his coat behind. The next shot, he is carrying his coat.

  • Factual errors: The father refers to his model airplane as a B model North American P-51 Mustang in British service. However, the model aircraft is actually a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.
