Pics: Renee Zellweger Preps Christmas With Bradley Cooper's Mom

11 hours ago | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Renee Zellweger heats up speculations that she is getting more and more serious with boyfriend Bradley Cooper. Amidst rumors suggesting that she has been engaged to the star of "The Hangover", the 40-year-old beauty was spotted prepping for Christmas celebration with the actor's mother Gloria.

On December 24, the Ruby Thewes of "Cold Mountain" and Gloria were captured on camera making a stop at Bay Cities Italian Deli for some grocery shopping. The two then headed to Joan's on Third to pick up some more food. They were seen driving back home in the actress' Mini Cooper. Bradley himself was not seen joining the two.

Prior to her Christmas Eve outing, Renee has been reported by the Daily Mail having a date with Bradley. The pair, who was reportedly had a house hunting in Pacific Palisades, California, was seen at the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood for a movie night after the »

The 10 Most Memorable Performances of the Decade

16 December 2009 7:57 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As a part of Fsr's Decade in Review I've been tasked with coming up a list of the most memorable, landmark performances since 2000.  Since I wanted the list to be only 10 performances I had to set out a string of criteria to follow. 1. If the performance happened before 2005, why has it stuck with us?  Likewise, if it occured after 2005, why will we remember it? 2. No impersonations -- as good as Jamie Foxx and Jaoquin  Pheonix may have been in their biopics, I have to give more credit to original creations here.  You may not agree with my logic, and that's fine, but don't expect to see famous celebrity impersonations here.  Foxx's performance will never be more memorable than the man himself, so why would it be a defining performance? 3. Academy Awards do not help your chance of being on this list.  For example, in ten years we won't remember what movie Renee Zellweger won an Oscar for »

News: Charlie Hunnam wants to impale you

12 December 2009 11:35 AM, PST | doorQ.com | See recent doorQ.com news »

Charlie Hunnam, who first rose to fame playing precocious twink Nathan in the original (and best) version of Queer As Folk, and who can be currently seen playing Jax in Sons Of Anarchy, is trying to get a film about Vlad the Impaler, the real-world source for Dracula, off the ground.

EW.com has the write-up with Charlie about his passion project, something he's been working on ever since he co-starred in Cold Mountain years ago. Vlad the Impaler is the source of the Dracula myths and the war between Vlad and his muslim-raised brother, leading a conquering army of Ottoman Empire Turks into the heart of Europe, is a rivalry perfect for the screen.

The one the film won't be about is vampires, at least not directly. Vlad's life and conquests gave rise to many of the elements of the modern vampire myth -- the blood-lust, the only »

Vlad is Not a Vampire

11 December 2009 1:23 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

So is Vlad a vampire movie that’s not about vampires? Is this not a vampire movie at all? Or is he a self-hating vampire? Entertainment Weekly sat down with Vlad screenwriter Charlie Hunnam and talked about his inspiration for the film – travels through Romania while filming Cold Mountain – and the plot’s relationship to actual historical events. At the end of the interview he says: As the script stands now, we don’t touch on vampirism. That was my one non-negotiable area when we were developing it, and thankfully, nobody suggested that we should delve into it at the end. But you can clearly see the things that Bram Stoker took…. Vlad was such a brutal man, and the trick is to make him sympathetic. That was the challenge, and if we’ve succeeded in any way in this script, I truly believe that it’s genuinely making him sympathetic. »

Come Back to Me...Or Not.

11 December 2009 4:12 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Jose here with a look at one of the most misunderstood performances of the decade.

Nicole Kidman is arguably the actress of the decade. The woman did everything in the past ten years: thrillers, Ingmar Bergman redux, classy biopics, astonishing musicals, big special effects epics and even Lars von Trier. The last few years however have been full of incomprehensible Kidman hate (if this were the 1930's she'd be deemed box office poison and sent to oblivion).

The backlash began with the release of Cold Mountain Anthony Minghella's Civil War epic which some had decided would be the new Gone With the Wind the minute it started shooting. When it was released and Nicole's Ada Monroe just wasn't Scarlett O'Hara, it was as if people decided Nicole had cheated them from what they all thought would be a third consecutive Best Actress Oscar nomination (it says a lot that »

Natalie Portman to Be Zombie Slayer in 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'

11 December 2009 1:48 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

A female zombie hunter is the next character that will be explored by Natalie Portman. According to Variety, the "Cold Mountain" beauty is set to star in "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies", a movie adaptation of bestselling book written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen.

The book itself is based on Austen's classic novel, "Pride and Prejudice", but set in an era when zombies roam the English countryside. In the film, Portman will play feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who is distracted from her quest to eradicate the zombie menace by the arrival of the arrogant Fitzwilliam Darcy.

Beside joining the film as the cast member, Natalie will also serve as producer alongside Annette Savitch and Darko Films' Richard Kelly, Sean McKittrick and Ted Hamm. Speaking of his and Natalie's upcoming project, Savitch said, "Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen's books and this a fresh, fun »

'Sons of Anarchy' star Charlie Hunnam talks about his screenplay for 'Vlad' (sorry, no vampires)

9 December 2009 10:52 AM, PST | EW - Hollywood Insider.com | See recent EW.com - Hollywood Insider news »

Yes, Vlad the Impaler, a 15th century badass whose penchant for brutality and fighting at night were meant to strike fear in the heart of the Ottoman Empire and give his outnumbered forces an advantage on their home battlefield, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. And yes, the Vlad screenplay, written by Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam, will be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B and Summit Entertainment, the studio behind Twilight. But no, you will not be seeing vampires. In fact, that was a non-negotiable point for Hunnam, who became fascinated with Vlad, a national hero of Romania, »

Twilight studio teams with Brad Pitt for Dracula origin tale

7 December 2009 5:38 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Having enjoyed success with its Twilight vampire romance films, Summit Entertainment is now going to the source with a project about the man on whom the Dracula legend is based.

Summit has picked up Vlad, a script by actor Charlie Hunnam with music video maker Anthony Mandler in talks to direct the feature, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Mandler has worked with Rihanna (on 10 of her videos), The Killers and Eminem. Executives were impressed by a reel he prepared, which drew comparisons to Zack Snyder's work on 300.

Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will produce through their Plan B Entertainment production company.

Charlie Hunnam's acting credits include the television series Queer as Folk, Young Americans and Sons of Anarchy and the movies Cold Mountain and Children of Men.

Vlad is described as an action-oriented take on the man behind the story, with Summit hoping to make a "a visually edgy »

The Naughts: The Actress of the '00s

4 December 2009 10:17 AM, PST | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

If time is an avenger, then the Naughts have had it both ways with Nicole Kidman. In the span of a decade, Kidman was transformed from arm candy into an artist -- the rare movie star who made genuinely interesting choices -- eclipsing her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, who filed for divorce in 2000, with an Oscar win and the embrace, finally, of her peers on her own terms.

However, as the '00s limp to a close, Kidman seems to be succumbing to a personal vendetta against time: by manipulating her face into a mask -- a waxworks ideal of "Nicole Kidman" -- rather than continuing to deploy it as a functional instrument, an artist's tool, Kidman is taking perhaps the most surprising risk of her career: she has chosen to age into glacial iconicity. In this, she exemplifies a decade that treated actresses with ambivalence, waving all the flags of »

Total Recall: Natalie Portman's Best Movies

1 December 2009 2:30 AM, PST | Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news »

Child actors are notorious for fizzling out once their prepubescent charms disappear during adolescence, or once they discover the various vices of the adult world, and it seems to be the rare case when a young starlet can overcome these hurdles and transition successfully into a career of grownup roles. Natalie Portman is one such success story: after making her debut as a 12-year-old in Luc Besson's Leon The Professional, Portman gradually took on more adult roles until she was playing everything from a young, widowed mother (Cold Mountain) to an emotionally manipulative stripper (Closer). This week, she stars alongside »

Birthday Suits: The Blonde and the Bookish

29 November 2009 4:24 AM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Celebrating cinematic birthdays for 11/29. Which celebrity would you most like to spank today?

Blond³: Diane, Anna and Cathy

1832 Louisa May Alcott wrote the oft-adapted Little Women

1895 Busby Berkeley, legendary choreographer/director. What would the early musicals have been without him?

1898 C.S. Lewis wrote the Chronicles of Narnia which were made into unfortunately generic movies. He also wrote The Screwtape Letters which I personally pray will never see the silver screen despite Hollywood's efforts. Some books just deserve the undiluted perfection of their original form. Sir Anthony Hopkins played him in the weepy bio Shadowlands (1993)

1901 Mildred Harris, silent film actress and Mrs Charlie Chaplin (for a few years)

1918 Madeleine L'Engle prolific author, most famous for Wrinkle in Time

1931 Shintarô Katsu the original blind swordsman Zatoichi

1932 Diane Ladd, if you don't love her Oscar nom'ed performances in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Rambling Rose and Wild at Heart, well... what's wrong with you? »

The Making of The Wolfman

20 November 2009 11:04 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

A few days ago Variety reported (you kind of have to mine for it in the article) that veteran editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch were being brought in to recut The Wolfman, even though the release date is only a few months away, on February 12, 2010. This could be a very bad thing for the film, culminating in what has already been a tumultuous creation process, but it could be a good thing. Films can often be made in the editing room, and both editors have had extensive experience. Goldblatt has edited such films as Terminator 2 and Pearl Harbor, while Murch worked on The English Patient and Cold Mountain, winning an Oscar for sound editing in Apocalypse Now. The point is, I hope that the film has a chance to succeed because it still looks very cool. The featurette below has some behind the scenes footage and interviews, which increases my excitement for the film. »

Two New Editors for Universal's Wolf Man

18 November 2009 10:34 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Universal's upcoming The Wolfman re-imagining has been bogged down for the past three years by countless production setbacks, constantly changing release dates, a new director, and most recently the loss of their composer Danny Elfman. What else could happen with Wolfman that hasn't already happened? They could bring in two new editors, that's what. The relentless news excavators over at /film dug up this news out of the gutter of a Variety article not even about the movie. It looks like Mark Goldblatt, action editor extraordinaire, and Walter Murch, the man who literally wrote the book on editing, will come on to Joe Johnston's movie and try to clean it up a bit. A Goldblatt/Murch pairing is certainly an interesting one, with Goldblatt working such action pieces as Armageddon, Bad Boys 1 & 2, and both Terminator films, and Murch handling slightly more dramatic pieces like Cold Mountain and The English Patient. »

Top Editors Brought In to Re-Cut The Wolfman

18 November 2009 9:47 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Of all the big films on the docket for next year, the one I’m most concerned about is The Wolfman. The second trailer for the film looked pretty badass, I’ll admit – but this movie has suffered a plagued production from the get-go. A change in directors, callbacks for reshoots and re-designs in the creature effects… It all points to a studio trying to turn lead into gold through the usual movie alchemy.

Well, the guys over at Slash Film must have magnifying glass eyes, because they spotted something deep-six buried in an article over at Variety, which names editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch as the two guys hired to do a recut of The Wolfman!

This revelation comes without the usual fanfare from the blogosphere that goes with every little development on a major movie – suggesting that the studio is trying to keep the continuing problems with »

Great New Poster for 'Crazy Heart' with Jeff Bridges

14 November 2009 11:59 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

We've written and you have commented about Fox Searchlight's mysterious year of failures. Normally at this time, the baby studio has set itself up for a great Oscar run (or two), but outside of (500) Days of Summer, which figures to only make hay in the screenplay category, Searchlight has whiffed a lot this year. The studio announced maybe ten days ago that its sleeper this season will be Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges, kind of a modernized Tender Mercies, which won Robert Duvall an Academy Award. Click the pic to see the whole poster.

With any movie about music, I always gravitate to that section of the credits that deals with the musical score and soundtrack. In this case, the score is by O Brother composer and soundtrack producer T-Bone Burnett and a guy named Stephen Bruton. Bruton was a fixture in Austin and throughout the Texas music scene for about 40 years. »

Curio: Barbies Reborn

4 November 2009 7:15 PM, PST | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Alexa from Pop Elegantiarum here. Like a lot of women, I have a love-hate relationship with Barbie. In her current incarnation, she is a stripper image of femininity that, in addition to being a bad role model for girls, is just, well, tasteless. But then I'll see a retro Barbie from the 60s and I flip for her exaggerated glamour. In the spirit of the latter, I wanted to share these repainted dolls by Noel Cruz. Noel takes your average fashion doll, like Barbie, removes the factory paint, and repaints the features. After a wardrobe change, the dolls are reborn as some favorite film characters, like this Miranda Priestly doll. Love the wardrobe, and how he managed to capture the essence of Meryl Streep's features (albeit in a streamlined Barbie way).

And he has a slew of actressy dolls too, like this dreamy Nicole Kidman. I could bore my »

Robert Pattinson to be joined by Nicole Kidman for 'Bel Ami'

4 November 2009 12:38 AM, PST | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

Robert Pattinson, it has just been announced, will be joined by none other than Cold Mountain and Australia beauty Nicole Kidman for his upcoming film Bel Ami. Pattinson, you know, will be taking the lead in the book-to-film translation of Guy de Maupassant's novel by the same name. Ditching the Edward Cullen swagger and charm from The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for a more bedding provocateur role in Bel Ami, Pattinson will begin filming the movie in February, 2010. Presumably this will take place once his Allen Coulter film Remember Me debuts in theaters (February 12, 2010). Read more a »

Renee Zellweger Debunks 'Bridget Jones 3' Rumors

20 October 2009 8:03 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Contrary to what has been suggested earlier, Renee Zellweger won't be packing up pounds any time soon for "Bridget Jones 3". At Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood event, the 40-year-old actress set the record straight, telling Marc Malkin of E! she hasn't signed on to do another portrayal of thirty-something Bridget Jones.

"I get asked every single day, and I don't know anything," the actress who earned her two Academy Award nods from the role confessed. "It's a rumor." On the report suggesting she will be wearing fat suit instead of gaining the actual pounds this time around, the Ruby Thewes of "Cold Mountain" responded simply, "Oh, goody! When are we having the fitting?"

Presented with the idea of portraying the character in a possible stage musical, Zellweger had this to say, "I haven't been asked, [but] I think that would be weird. Do you think that would be weird?" When her »
