A laugh riot! ...And I'm being serious!, 10 February 2001

This absolutely hilarious (seriously!) gore flick documents the life of a bored businessman who just broke up with his sexy girlfriend. One evening in a fit of restlessness and depression he slits his wrists, only to find himself healthy again within minutes. He soon discovers that he will never die no matter what kind of mutilation and desecration he inflicts upon himself. Knowing this, our hero exacts revenge on his ex's new beau by grossing the poor guy out, making him witness all kinds of disgusting self-abuse, including having internal organs thrown at him. The gore is unbelievably realistic and stomach-churning, but at the same time it's so extreme and over-the-top that you know it's supposed to be humorous as well as repulsive. Definitely the funniest entry in the GUINEA PIG series. Also, be sure to stick around for the credits.

Funny blood'n'guts shocker, 23 December 2002

I thought this film's obvious brutal violence was lifted by two things:

1) the fact that unlike most other Ginipiggu films, the gore was all self-inflicted by the lead character, Hideshi, and 2) it really is a funny film. Seriously! I think the weird experiment of trying to make what is after all an incredibly manic and extreme film into a laff riot actually paid off. Not only does it lessen the nastiness to a tolerable excess, but it forces you to have sympathy with Hideshi and giggle along with him at his daft predicament. By the end credits, everyone involved is unable to keep a straight face. Easily my favourite of the series.

The title couldn't be more true, 23 January 2006

I found this to be the most enjoyable of the Guinea Pigs I've viewed. It's light hearted good clean fun (okay so i'm exaggerating a smidge). A man is depressed and spends the entire movie trying to kill himself in hilarious ways. It's actually very upbeat, the music is amusingly inappropriate for a suicide situation. Basically it's a good little comedy that is only about 1 hour long about creative ways to commit suicide despite the fact that you just can't succeed. You don't even need subtitles to appreciate this little flick. As far as the Guinea Pig series goes, it's likely one of the least sadistic and bloodless, but the humour and character makes up for it entirely.

Guinea Pig gets silly., 21 May 2007

After the first two Guinea Pig movies, which could never really be described as 'fun', it comes as something of a surprise to find that the third in the series, He Never Dies, is actually quite lighthearted in comparison. It's still very gory, with some highly convincing and gruesome effects, but a juvenile sense of humour stops this one from being as grim as its predecessors.

Part three is introduced by a serious looking American guy who tells us that what we are about to see is a true story. Call me suspicious, but I don't think he's telling the truth...

An office worker who hates his job, and who has just lost his girlfriend, decides to end his life. However, after slicing open his wrist, he realises that killing himself will be a lot harder than he at first thought: he never dies! Having hacked at his wrists, sliced at his neck, and unsuccessfully tried to strangle himself, the obviously immortal fellow gives up trying to top himself. Instead, he decides to freak out his friend (who is currently banging his ex) by calling him up, inviting him round and then mutilating and dismembering himself in front of the terrified sap (he even guts himself and flings his entrails at the poor bloke).

By the time he has finished, he has reduced himself to nothing more than a talking severed head on a table.

I have noticed that several people on IMDb have compared this film to the early works of Peter Jackson, but even though there are the common denominators of comedy and outrageous gore, I don't think He Never Dies is either as funny or as wholly entertaining as the gore classics from the Kiwi wunderkind.

It is, however, a very peculiar film, and worth seeing, I guess, if you're a fan of silly splatter or truly bizarre cinema. And it's only 39 minutes long!

5.5/10, rounded up to 6 for IMDb.

For the most part I've been disappointed with the "infamous" GUINEA PIG series. HE NEVER DIES is one of the exceptions. Basic storyline- guy loves girl, girl leaves guy, guy attempts suicide in sick and twisted ways, all to no avail. This entry in the series is definitely more light-hearted than the previous offerings. As many reviewers have rightly noted, think of a Japanese Peter Jackson short-film. Gory, funny, all around entertaining - one of the best in the GUINEA PIG series. Also check out FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD, and MERMAID IN A MANHOLE - in my opinion the only other GUINEA PIG films worth even bothering with. 8/10 for HE NEVER DIES

Absolutely sick!!, 5 August 1999

3rd part in the series of Japanese sickness. Like all the others, this is just plain vile but very funny at the same time.

This is in Japanese so all I can gather of the story is a guy likes a chick, she doesn't like him, so he becomes depressed and tries to kill himself. The only thing is he can't die (hence the title). See him mutilate himself while he has a smirk on his face. The best bit would have to be when he tries to slit his wrists, the blood stops and he just plays with his wound. All this with gut wrenching sound effects.

One of the best in the series!

Don't let a woman make you fall to pieces., 28 November 2009

Well, it's another instalment in the "Guinea Pig" series, a number of short films linked by their stomach-churning special effects and slimmest of slim plot lines.

This time around, we meet a young man depressed after losing his girl and having a hard time at work. So he tries to kill himself but finds, as the title sort of hints at, that he can't. Nor can he feel pain. After some experimentation he decides to get some revenge on his ex-girlfriend's new fella in a rather novel fashion.

Despite the lighter tone (it's really just a jokey piece building up to a morbidly amusing, but pretty stupid, punchline), this movie is still not for those of a weak constitution. There are plenty of decent "blood 'n' guts" moments to keep gorehounds happy although one fake axe effect deserves to be digitally erased from all future copies of the movie, it's THAT bad.

The acting is so-so, I've never liked the Asian comedy as much as their serious or horror fare, and thanks to it's short running time it doesn't overstay it's welcome but it's nothing I'd rush to see again. Also, strangely enough, the bookends of the piece trying to convince you it's real footage when it's clearly staged material feels absolutely ridiculous in this time around. But diverting fun for fans of the series nonetheless.

See this if you like: Flowers Of Flesh And Blood, Beetlejuice, Death Becomes Her.

The Za ginipiggu-series goes comedy!, 4 April 2009
6/10
Author: Boba_Fett1138 from Groningen, The Netherlands

The previous Za ginipiggu movies were all quite serious movies, featuring as much blood and gore as possible, without serving a purpose- or try to tell a story really. This entry picks a more light approach, making this movie more like a comedy than anything else really. It makes the movie a more pleasant and entertaining watch, which in return also makes this a better and less pointless movie to watch than its predecessors.

Yes, of course the movie still features lots of blood, when a man tries to commit suicide in multiple different ways but fails each time. It makes the movie strangely morbidly funny. The guy is a looser, who can't even commit suicide right. It's comedy doesn't make its gore any less gory though, just more easy to handle.

Its different approach of things makes this definitely a better and as well a more entertaining movie to watch. It's still a pretty pointless movie but it's fun nonsense.

6/10

Blood, Blood, and More Blood, 27 February 2008

This is the third film out of the Guinea Pig series. Like the two previous films this film focuses on blood and gore with the hopes of disgusting its viewers. But unlike the first two this film takes the practice of presenting vile imagery in a new approach... A humorous one.

The film is supposed to be a reenactment of an event that actually took place. Supposedly a man was found dead in his apartment. The scene looked so horrific, as his body was badly mutilated and it appeared as though the remains had been played with. But after further investigation no fingerprints, other than the victims, were found at the scene of the crime, and all the injuries were angled as though the victim did it with his own hands...

This is the first splatter comedy to come out of the Guinea Pig series, and is a real joy ride. The film is very over the top, and I recommend it to any gorehounds out there.

Dementedly funny Japanese sickie, 17 February 2008

Author: t-birkhead from United Kingdom

I thoroughly enjoyed this third installment in the Guinea Pig Series. The tone has lightened considerably after the first couple, with this one bearing a comic, I guess Peter Jackson style feel. He never dies is considerably darker and more edgy than a Peter Jackson film though, treating suicide with a seriously twisted humour. As with the first two, there are scenes of very nasty violence, enough to be very wince making at one or two points, but not as disturbing as the earlier ones. The characters in He Never Dies are likable and the script and direction are often funny in a bizarre way, whilst the ending is oddly uplifting. I would recommend this to those who enjoy sick humour, or the crazy end of Japanese cinema, or anyone who liked the first two Guinea Pig films but wanted them to lighten up a little.
