'Spaceballs' Asks You To Use The Schwartz In Today's Sick Day Stash

20 hours ago | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s. »

Part 5: From Sir Tim Berners-Lee to Phil Mitchell

Sir Tim Berners-lee Invented the internet. Omg!

Nice one, Sir T. You came up with a useful, unifying means of global communication that changed the way we went about everything, from news to wanking. Then celebrity bloggers appeared to combine the two: Drunken Stepfather, The Superficial, Dlisted and the grotesque grande dame of them all, Perez "Zzzz!" Hilton, made stars out of socialites, turned the upskirt shot into a goldmine and made being a no-limits prick about everyone acceptable by calling it "snark". You enjoy that knighthood.

Scary Movie was faintly amusing, but after seeing the same joke rehashed as Scary Movies 2 to 4, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans and Disaster Movie, is anyone out there still laughing? Yes: writers Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, »

Congratulations to the Record-Breaking 'Transylmania'!

8 December 2009 8:35 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I don't want you to think I'm gunning for this flick, because I have a long history of enjoying films like Student Bodies, Scary Movie, Transylvania 6-5000, The Monster Squad, and tons of other mirthful monster movies, but it looks like the recent freak farce Transylmania has earned itself a spot in the hall of shame. Again, I'm pleased to note that our own John Gholson had a little fun with the flick, but here's the real story:

According to the fine folks at Box Office Mojo, and I quote, "Transylmania captured the record for the lowest-grossing opening for a movie playing at over 1,000 sites. The horror spoof grossed a mere $263,941 at 1,007 sites, stripping the 1991 feature, Rich Girl, of the title."

I'll leave it to someone smart to do the per-site math on that, but if you have a torn stub from your weekend trip to Transylmania, I think you should hold onto it. »

Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, and Now… Spanish Movie?!

7 December 2009 2:33 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Just when you thought the legacy of the Scary Movie spoof series couldn't possibly be applied to anymore genres, along comes the weirdest incarnation yet: Spanish Movie [1]! That's right, it's a comedy that pokes fun at the best in Spanish-language cinema over the past few years including Pan's Labyrinth, [Rec], The Orphanage, The Others, and even Pedro Almodóvar's Volver! The concept seems so ridiculously non-mainstream that you'd almost think this was a joke -- until you realize that it's actually produced by Fox's Spanish studio arm. Yep, this is a Spanish-language film that will be released in Spain this month, and really, why not? Why should North Americans be the only ones forced to suffer through such painful comedy? They actually have high hopes for the box office potential over there too. What I want to know is whether or not they plan to release it here eventually, because at »

Spanish Movie Looking to Bring Some Comedy into Spanish Horror

7 December 2009 12:59 AM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The Spanish horror trend has been growing strong as of late, seemingly outlasting the Asian horror trend that's now dead as a friggin' doornail. With the success of such great films as The Orphanage, Rec, and Pan's Labyrinth, it was only a matter of time before someone started roasting them. Enter Spanish Movie.

Taking a page out of modern American slapstick like Scary Movie and the myriad of others, Spanish Movie looks to turn Spanish horror on its ear in style. Hell, they've even imported slapstick legend Leslie Nielsen.

Parody goes international with Spanish Movie

7 December 2009 12:41 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

People have been emailing about this one all weekend, and until now it's stayed off the radar - likely because it only opened in Spain. While the U.S. has been saturated with films like Scary Movie, Epic Movie, Date Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, and the classic Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The Thirteenth, now the Spanish market has their own parody in the form of Javier Ruiz Caldera's Spanish Movie.

The film just opened on the 4th and features parodies of films such as The Orphanage, Pans Labyrinth, [Rec] and more.

Check out a trailer below the jump, and be sure to hit the official site for loads of clips and music videos - but beware, they're not subtitled.

‘The 40 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It’ Is Real and Has a Trailer

4 December 2009 11:15 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

When you hear a title like that, it’s pretty easy to immediately think it’s just a really bad joke, or possibly part of our Fan Film Friday series. Sadly, this new trailer is neither. From Silver Nitrate Films, the brains behind such films as S. Darko and Rob Schneider’s Big Stan comes The 40 Year Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It.

The premise is basically Scary Movie aimed towards anything that has had Judd Apatow’s name on it in the past five years. There are spoofs for things like The 40 Year Old Virgin to Superbad. They are all included. It’s a shame that the parody machine has gotten so out of control that studios are now giving the green light to projects that actually satire…satires. Shouldn’t that open up a black hole somewhere?

'Doghouse' Offers Plenty of Yucks and Yuks

1 December 2009 9:05 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Back in the '60s it was George Romero's brilliant Night of the Living Dead that kick-started America's love affair with zombies... the mindless flesh-eater obsession then made its way across the ocean to Italy where scores of cheap and disturbing films were churned out with drooling enthusiasm. Now Britain has wrestled the crown away and has become the undisputed king of zombie flicks with such terrifying entries as 28 Days Later, and its sequel, 28 Weeks Later.

One could also argue that nobody does comedy better then the British. They are masters of pitch black humor that frequently borders on the downright nasty. In comparison, the written dialogue in a typical Brit-Com is far sharper and wittier than any Seth Rogan/Ben Stiller/Jim Carrey film combined. Apparently, in America, acting like a retard is what passes for humor.

Horror-Comedy as a sub-genre is a difficult thing to pull off »

[DVD Review] Vampire Party

1 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

I hate to sound like an old fogy, but boy, they sure don’t make ‘em like they used to. And by ‘em, I mean spoof movies in the Zucker mold (specifically Airplane and The Naked Gun) that were amusing enough at the time, but in retrospect have come to seem like small miracles in comparison with the films that they have inspired. Vampire Party is just one of those films, and it does absolutely nothing to better the image of the parody film as lazy, uninspired, and more irritating than funny. But unlike Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2, Scary Movie 3, Scary Movie 4, Date Movie, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, and Superhero Movie, this is from France.

Sam (Patrick Mille), Alice (Frederique Bel), and Prune (Julie Fournier) are young people who (as is clearly established in the opening narration, perhaps the only very French touch in the whole movie) love to party. »

Anna Faris gets Banned and has Tmi

17 November 2009 12:15 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

How's this for an interesting Tuesday in movie news: Hollywood's two big entertainment trade magazines have two different stories about new Anna Faris projects. The girl is apparently that popular (and/or at least her agent is a hard worker.)

First up is The Hollywood Reporter's story about a new project called Wedding Banned in development at Touchstone Pictures. In it the Scary Movie star will play the daughter of Robin Williams character, a dad who has a deep fear to not see his baby girl walk down the aisle for fear that she will make the same dumb mistake he did. Together with his ex-wife, the dad kidnaps the bride on her wedding day. As cops chase down the kidnappers and the groom worries about the whereabouts of his bride, naturally the ex-wife and ex-husband begin to have feelings again for each other -- Because It's A Hollywood Movie. »

Scream 4 Writer Talks Sequel Influences

12 November 2009 10:20 PM, PST | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Screenwriter Kevin Williamson is busy these days.  He’s writing the script to Scream 4, producing episodes of “The Vampire Diaries,” Tweeting, and now writing/directing a remake of 1987’s The Bedroom Window.

Williamson is the sole reason I’m excited about a fourth Scream movie.  Sure, Wes Craven may or may not sign to direct it, but the return of the writer from the first three films gives me hope for a worthwhile slasher.  The meta Scream series has been somewhat reliable in parodying horror cliches, so I’m crossing my fingers for a slice and dice of modern cliches.

What does Williamson have in mind?  He told the NY Post, “I’ve [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there’s some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they’ve come and gone.”

Sounds like he’s tackling quite a bit. »

Kevin Williamson talks ‘Scream 4′ and the possible killing-off of Sidney

Writer Kevin Williamson says  “there are a lot of twists and turns” in the upcoming Scream 4. Twists that may potentially include the killing off of Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott.

In a recent interview with PopWrap, Williamson refused to confirm whether or not the main character will be dead, but he did not rule out the possibility.

“The thing about Scream 4 is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything,” Williamson said about the Sidney character. “There are a lot of moving pieces, so we’ll see — but if you’re a Scream fan, I think you’re really going to like it.”

Williamson also chatted about which elements would be included in the next Scream: “I’ve [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there’s some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, »

Sidney Prescott Could Be Killed Off in 'Scream 4'

After it has been confirmed that Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in "Scream 4", there is wild rumor that she will be killed off in the upcoming movie. Kevin Williamson Talks Scream 4

11 November 2009 10:49 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

A lot's happened to the landscape of horror films since the original Scream trilogy wrapped a decade ago. The lank-haired pasty-faced female ghouls of J-horror; the Saws and Hostels and their ilk; PG-13 teen-friendly fare; and of course the restarting and/or remaking of practically any horror franchise with lasting name-recognition, which we're sure Scream 4 will be po-mo enough to comment on.Plenty of material for screenwriter Kevin Williamson then, who confirmed to the New York Post that those are the directions he's planning to take the script, whilst being very careful not to come off like National Lampoon: "Scary Movie spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with Scream 4 is that, while we do send up the genre, we make it incredibly scary. That's first and foremost."We've known for a long time that Williamson would be back for the Scream re-launch (he wrote the first two, »

Kevin Williamson Talks Scream 4 Influences and the Fate of Neve Campbell

11 November 2009 7:31 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Kevin Williamson is still finishing his script for Scream 4, but he told The NYPost what influences he is using for the sequel.

I've [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there's some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they've come and gone.

Scream 4 will see the return of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette as the trilogy's main survivors. Yet, when asked if Campbell, who was the last to confirm she'd return, will survive yet again through the next trilogy of Scream movies Williamson is planning, he replied, "I can't promise anything."

However, he did say to expect laughs and, more importantly, scares.

You have to be careful because Scary Movie spoofed these films, so one of the things I'm excited about with Scream 4 is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. »

Review: iTunes 99p Rental – Fatal Instinct

11 November 2009 1:34 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Last week, presumably due to a technical error, there was no 99p rental on iTunes. Now i’ll be honest, based on the suspect selections of recent weeks, it was nice to get a week off. I also considered the possibility that Apple had maybe decided to stop it altogether.

I thought that would be a great shame. Then it came back this week, and i had to watch Carl Reiner’s Fatal Instinct

Ned (Armand Assante) is a police officer, and a lawyer. He believes greatly in the justice system, which is why he has no trouble defending the criminals that he arrests. His wife, Lana (Kate Nelligan), presumably feeling neglected due to her husbands time consuming dual role, is having an affair with her mechanic, Frank (Christopher McDonald). Upon discovering a clause in Ned’s life insurance that pays triple if a particular, highly unlikely accident occurs, enlists »
