Jump rope movie

Sometimes my friends and I will have debates about what we consider a sport. Golf? Yes. Ice skating? No. Nascar? Split among party lines. But how about jump roping?
Well, someone apparently thinks so, which is why Duane Adler, who co-wrote Step Up and Save The Last Dance is now working on Jump Around, which is exactly what you think it is. The film will follow the world of hardcore double-dutch jump roping which apparently exists, proving this story isn.t something I pulled from The Onion.

Skipping To Hit The Big Screen

With Dance Flick and the Fame remake effectively hammering the last nails in the dance movie's coffin (we’re watching you, Footloose remake – don’t be rubbish), producers are heading back to youth sports. With Drew Barrymore’s roller derby flick Whip It getting great reviews across the pond, and everything from American football to, erm, synchronised swimming chalking up the silver-screen treatment this decade, it's now the turn of skipping in Jump Around. Not just any old skipping mind you – double-dutch jump-roping (we think it’s a slightly more refined version of "Bumper Car Bumper Car"), which officially became an officially-recognised school sport in New York this year. Duane Adler, who co-wrote hit dance flicks Step Up and Save The Last Dance is on the books to rewrite and direct Jump Around, a screenplay based on that sport, with What Women Want producer Matt Williams on board too.

Julia Stiles as the Black Cat in Spidey 4? Probably Not.

With Rachel McAdams having already denied rumors that she was talking to producers of “Spider-Man 4″ to play Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat in Sam Raimi’s latest Spidey film, the question remains: is the Black Cat really going to be in the movie, and if so, who will play her? According to the blokes at Ugo, “Bourne” actress Julia Stiles is now “talking” with producers about the role. Ugo doesn’t really say who they learned this little news from, just that they “have learned”, which, er, could be totally bullshit, and probably is.
So would Julia Stiles fit the role of the Black Cat? Eh, I don’t know. Stiles’ biggest role to date was that dancing movie “Save the Last Dance”. She’s been in a ton of movies, usually playing teenagers or 20-something characters, and has never really gotten her due, mostly because, well, though

It's interesting that just yesterday we posted our coverage of the set visit for Armored which took place February 26 of 2008. While we were on-set, Columbus Short was asked specifically about a sequel to Stomp the Yard . We quote... Q: Have you talked at all about another "Stomp the Yard"? Short: Oh, no. I wouldn't be in it. Q: You wouldn't? Short: No. Come on! Some things are better left alone. I've learned that. I had my share of a sequel. I was in the "Save the Last Dance" sequel. That was cool. You've got to work your

What are Your Guilty Pleasure Movies, but Don't Like to Admit It?

I thought the response to my "Do You Ever Lie about the Movies You've Seen? " post was excellent, and on top of everything so many of you said, several new questions came as a result. One of them, offered by 'Steve Mott', asks the question in the headline: Do you have guilty pleasures you don't like to admit to?
Steve lists his guilty pleasure as 10 Things I Hate About You, a film I personally love and was just discussing recently with a friend when the topic of "Where the hell did Julia Stiles go?" came up. To that effect I also love Save the Last Dance and to answer the Stiles question before someone gets smart in the comments, yes, she has the Bourne films and wrote and directed a film starring Zooey Deschanel and has also been doing plenty of work on stage. Moving along...

Blue Skies for 'Cloudy,'Hazy Starts for 'Surrogates,' 'Fame'

Moviegoers came back for a second helping of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, but the new items on the menu, Surrogates and Fame, didn't fly. That led to a weekend that was off seven percent from the same timeframe last year when Eagle Eye landed. Standing as the only broadly appealing movie among recent releases, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs dissipated by a mere 19 percent, generating an estimated $24.6 million and lifting its total to a solid $60 million in ten days. Its drop was less than such comparable titles as Open Season, Meet the Robinsons and Chicken Little, though it may have a steeper decline in its third weekend, when the Toy Story double feature will claim much of its 3D attention. Surrogates plugged in with an estimated $15 million on approximately 3,600 screens at 2,951 sites, or a fraction of what the similar I, Robot started at. The science fiction thriller

Fame interviews with the adults … Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, Bebe Neuwirth and Debbie Allen

If Fame can be reinvented more than 25 years later, perhaps it really can live forever. Now the question becomes, will it ever learn how to fly, high? Man, I can’t shake that theme song.
Fame does have one thing that really intrigues me, the adults in the flick. If it was just the kids who are students at the New York Academy of Performing Arts, it might just blend in with films like Save the Last Dance.
We’ve got Kelsey Grammer, Megan Mullally, Bebe Neuwirth and Debbie Allen (who was in the original film). Each one of these people are talented singers who have nailed it on TV, film or the stage.

Megan Mullally who plays Mrs. Rowan –

See the theatrical trailer as well as interview clips from the family drama "Broken Hill," starring Alexa Vega, Timothy Hutton, Phil Austin, Rhys Wakefield, Andy McPhee, Rebekah Rimington and Luke Arnold.
Dagen Merrill ("Beneath") directs and writes the film produced by Julie Ryan and Chris Wyatt.
In the tradition of Save The Last Dance, Billy Elliott and August Rush comes the musical drama Broken Hill. Tommy was born and raised on a rocky, drought-ridden sheep station in the middle of the Australian Outback. He works at the station and does all he can to appease his demanding father but in his heart wants to be a great musician. That all changes when Tommy meets

Cinema release inspirations including Inglourious Basterds

As the summer blockbuster season draws to a close we’re used to film numbers dwindling towards the end of August. However, this weekend see’s Quentin Tarantino’s highly anticipated Inglourious Basterds hitting the cinemas, and after the commerical flop that was Death Proof we can’t wait. Fancy brushing up on some new dance moves? Then check out the new Wayans brothers parody Dance Flick. If dancing isnt getting the girls then take a leaf out of Denis’s book in teen flick I Love You, Beth Cooper and share your true feelings. Or make your wishes come true with the new Robert Rodriguez kids film Shorts. It’s interesting that buddies Tarantino and Rodriguez, who last collaborated on Grindhouse, have released their new films on the same day… maybe another double bill is in order?

Exclusive Video: The Wayans Clan Gets Jiggy with Dance Flick

The Wayans gang and their spoofing ways are back with a new film, Dance Flick, which is set to hit theaters on May 22, and you certainly get more of the Wayans' for your buck here. Not only do we get to see the familiar faces of Keenan Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans all producing, starring and writing, but the family is letting some of the younger members of the family share the spotlight as well. Damon Wayans Jr. stars in the film as Thomas Uncles (get it?) and another nephew to Keenan, Shawn and Marlon, Damien Dante Wayans, takes the helm as the director here. I sat down with Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Damien Dante Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., along with actress Shoshana Bush, who portrays Megan White in this send-off of such dance movies like Save The Last Dance, Step Up 2 the Streets and even classics like Fame and Flashdance.
