Fun Stuff

Trivia:
Like in the previous series Dragonball, Dragon Ball Z has many naming conventions/jokes. Saiyans are all named after vegetables. Vegeta, both the prince, his king father and the Saiyan home planet (originally named Planet Plant), means Vegetable; Raditz is 'radish', and Kakkorotto is 'carrot'. The villain Freeza (originally Friezer) comes obvious, and his brother Cooler and their father King Cold. All Namekians born from the villain in Dragonball were named after instruments (Piccolo, Drum, etc.) The Briefs family were all named after underwear, Bulma meaning panties, Doctor Briefs himself, Trunks, and Bra. And of course, various characters named after foods. Oolong, as in the tea; Videl, like the onion variety; Ginger, obvious; Spice; Blueberry; Raspberry; Raisin; Almond; Apple; and in Dragonball there was an entire family (of about 12) named after desserts. more
Goofs:
Factual errors: The popular line where Nappa asks what Goku's power level is and Vegeta screams "Its over 9000!" and crushes his scouter in the English Dub is actually incorrect. In the Japanese version he screams that it is over 8000, not 9000. more
Quotes:
Vegeta: [Vegeta's last thought before he dies fighting Majin Buu] Bulma, Trunks. This is for you. more

FAQ

Why didn't Trunks or Goten ever grow a sayin tail?
Why does Goku's tail never grow back? It grew back plenty of times when he was a kid.
In the Other World, how did Yamcha defeat Pikkon in a sparring match? Pikkon was stronger than Cell, who Yamcha wasn't even in the same league as.

This won't give you the best impression the first time you see it but it just keeps getting better and better and can eventually become dangerously addictive. It takes action and story to all new levels. A lot of the dialog actually does make sense even if sometimes cliché'd. This is actually one of the few shows that is actually worthy of all the hype and popularity surrounding it. Although it may drag a lot, and the characters spend a lot of time staring at each other, what eventually happens at the end makes up for the waiting. I've only seen this up to the end of the freiza saga and that saga was slightly less impressive than the former few sagas. As the sagas progress, you'd better start seeing the uncut versions instead.
