Storyline

This documentary goes on location in the Austrian Alps for the filming of the movie Where Eagles Dare starring Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. Nazi era Austria during WWII is recreated which evokes strong emotion among the current residents, many of whom are extras in the movie. It is a difficult shoot - almost considered impossible - if only because of the harsh winter weather and the rugged terrain of the Alps. Planning the scenes are important because often only one take is possible. To some of the filmmakers, it almost feels like they are war planning. The movie itself has special meaning for one of its stars, German Ingrid Pitt, since she is a recent escapee of East Germany. Written by Huggo
