Tough economic times have tested the vast majority of Americans - and that includes celebrities. Lately there have been several high profile individuals from the worlds of sports, entertainment, and the arts who have seen their financial woes hit the front pages. A money meltdown is right up there with death and divorce as one of life's most stressful experiences. So let me say straight up that my intent in highlighting these experiences is not to poke fun or make light of their situations. Rather it is to help others by highlighting common financial pitfall that all of us (myself included) can learn from.

Kevin Nealon Puts The Hurt On Sarah Silverman In Today's Daily TwitPic

Kevin Nealon might not be a wild and crazy guy like his "Saturday Night Live" predecessor Steve Martin, but he's pretty off the axis nonetheless. Just look at today's Daily TwitPic. Who in their right mind is going to grab Sarah Silverman in what one commenter punnily described as a "Half Nealon"?
Seriously. Here's a comedienne who recorded a song with Matt Damon about having an affair behind her then-boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel's back. A song very appropriately titled "I'm F--king Matt Damon." She's proven time and again that she's merciless in her comedy; Nealon is asking for trouble. Big trouble. Let's just hope for his sake that he finished what he started.

Big Trouble For Anna Nicole Smith Book A0UTHOR Rita Cosby; Judge Says Libel Suit Can Proceed

Anna Nicole Smith is still making headlines from beyond the grave.
Author and TV correspondent Rita Cosby has big trouble ahead: a judge has approved a jury trial for a libel case relating to a book Cosby authored in 2007 about Anna Nicole Smith. Cosby's book Blonde Ambition made a number of sensational allegations relating to the late actress and her lovers Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead (who is the father of Smith's daughter). Stern's suit claims that Cosby used information she knew or suspected was false in order to rush out a book about the actress, whose bizarre life and death became a media sensation. According to Cosby, Stern pimped out the drug addicted Smith to as many as 50 men a year. She also claims that Smith had a videotape of her rival lovers, Stern and Birkhead, having sex with each other. No tape has materialized and both men strongly deny the allegation.

Welcome to The Morning Read. That darn Terry Gilliam, taking up my whole day yesterday. Good thing he's sort of awesome, or I'd be really upset. I've got more interviews I'll be editing for you later today, but first, there's so much going on that it seems like we need a Read, don't we? I mean, we didn't talk about this week's home video releases. It's not a huge week, but you can finally get "Big Trouble In Little China" on BluRay, which I'll be doing the next time I head into Hollywood. I already have a copy of "Race To

Movies That Deserve a Second Life: Action/Adventure Edition

When referring to a movie that nabbed a second life, typically home video is the savior. There are countless movies that didn’t fare well in their original theatrical runs but have earned a so-called second life thanks to profitable video sales and rentals that make them much stronger than they ever were when they first arrived. Examples of this trend vary greatly, whether you’re referring to genre, era, proliferation (or magnitude of the “second life”) and, of course, how deserving it is. Most that get a boost long after its premiere got where it is now slowly, spread wide by word of mouth and critical re-analysis. Most of them were not well received during the initial run, and many are re-evaluated, and mistakes are mended. Among them: 2001, The Princess Bride, The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Big Lebowski, Fight Club, Office Space and Dazed and Confused. These

Barry Sonnenfeld to Helm Remake of Korean Hit 'Scandal Makers'

It's been a few years since we were last treated to a Barry Sonnenfeld film, and considering that the guy's most recent efforts were Men in Black 2, Big Trouble, and Rv ... well, we can be forgiven if we're not screaming for a comeback. But it looks like the cinematographer-turned-director has found inspiration in the recent Korean hit Scandal Makers.
According to Variety, the comedy "centers on a philandering pop singer whose life is turned upside-down when he discovers that he has a daughter and a grandson," which creates visions of a Disney version starring Dwayne Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and whichever Breslin kid happens to be two years old right now. Mr. Sonnenfeld will be producing as well as directing, and he's presently looking to hook up with a studio (and probably a screenwriter).
And just so he doesn't think we don't respect him, we'll remind the Cinematical readers that Barry Sonnenfeld

Barry Sonnenfeld is attached to direct the Hollywood remake of South Korea's hit movie "Scandal Makers" (Kwasok scandle).
According to Variety, the film centers on a bed-hopping pop singer whose life takes a drastic turn when he finds out he has a daughter and a grandson.
Sonnenfeld told the trade he felt attracted to the project because of the original's examination of universal themes.
Right now, the director is looking for support by a major studio. He also plans to produce the film.
Sonnenfeld's credits include "Men in Black," "Big Trouble" and "Wild Wild West." He most recently directed "Rv."
Apparently, "Scandal Makers" was a huge hit in South Korea, grossing about $36 million domestically.

He may be good at racking up Grammy noms, but that doesn't mean he's good at getting out of trouble. According to the NY Daily News, a Manhattan judge has shot down rapper Lil Wayne's bid to have the gun case lodged against him tossed out. The judge set a trial date instead. Probably not the way Lil Wayne was hoping it would all go down.Lil Wayne's lawyer argued that that a police officer lied about smelling marijuana coming from the rapper's tour bus where the gun was discovered, and therefore she had no right to board the bus in the first place. The judge's response was somewhere along the lines of: "I don't give a crap." Supreme Cou

Five Things I Love About John Carpenter

Good Lord! How long have I been gone? Well, here's the deal, Fangorians. You may or may not know that I took over as team captain for Blog@Newsarama, with my new group kicking things off on December 1st. I also made some preparations for my original site, ShotgunReviews.com, to begin celebrating its Tenth Year online. Needless to say, it's been busy. But I haven't wanted to neglect my Fango friends, so I've been giving a lot of thought to what to do for the third installment of this (now more) regular series. The first two go-rounds, I talked '31 Frankenstein and Dracula. I really kicked around covering Spanish Dracula, and I Will get back to that eventually. Today, though, I've decided to cover someone that's still in the game. And I'll begin with this question: between 1978 and 1988, was there a genre director that had a better run than John Carpenter?
