  • The band playing during the house party is punk band Osker. The songs they play are "F**k Me" and "Alright".

  • Maddy's jeep license plate, 2GAT123, was also used in Beverly Hills Cop II (1987), Traffic (2000), Pay It Forward (2000), Mulholland Dr. (2001), L.A. Story (1991), "Two and a Half Men" (2003), S.W.A.T. (2003), and Go (1999)

  • Dunst, Kirsten's character Nicole was originally supposed to have a nude scene. When Carlos comes to Nicole's house and they plan to have sex, Nicole leaves the bedroom in a cut off shirt and her underwear and walks into the kitchen past the maid to retrieve some condoms, then returns to her bedroom. In the script she was supposed to do this nude.

  • Many of the high school scenes where shot at a real high school. The director wanted actual students to be extras in the film...most had no acting experience.

  • The scene in which Nicole buries Carlos in a hole in the sand, with only his head above ground, and takes a picture, the original caption for the photo was "In Nicole's Hole". It was changed to "I Love Nicole" in order to maintain a PG-13 rating.

  • 'Jay Hernandez' had to learn many of his Spanish lines phonetically because he does not speak fluent Spanish.

  • Crazy/Beautiful was originally inspired by a book of Lauren Greenfeld photos called 'Fast Forward'.
