Bbdo, At&T and BlackBerry have just released a new interactive advertisement directed by Michael Mann (Public Enemies, Heat, The Insider) that ties a broadcast TV spot (a 24-style action-thriller) with a your Facebook account information to insert you into the story. The television broadcast version of the advertisement is a bit shorter, and keeps the identity of the central character a mystery. In the online version, your photo, key information, and even your friends are inserted into the action. Also of note, Roberto Schaefer (Quantum of Solace, The Kite Runner, Stranger Than Fiction) was the director of photography on the spot, which was edited by the two-time Academy Award-nominated Saar Klein (Almost Famous, The Bourne Identity, The Thin Red Line). Go to onestepaheadmovie.com to watch/be in the spot now. Thanks to DannyT for the tip. »

J.J. Abrams’ NBC pilot Undercovers, has Boris Kodjoe set to star as the male.
Undercovers is described as a mix between Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity and revolves around spouses Samantha and Steven (Kodjoe) Bloom, who work together as spies.
Gerald McRaney has also been tapped to play a role in the project as the couple’s CIA boss. The role of Samantha is yet to be cast. Abrams is considering directing the Warner Bros. TV-produced pilot, which he co-wrote with Josh Reims.
Many believe that Kodjoe is a bold choice for a leading man on a network that has stuck predominantly with Caucasian leads. Kodjoe was recently seen in the late summer techno thriller, Surrogates with Bruce Willis.

Kodjoe will portray Steven, one half of the featured couple. On the small screen, the actor has appeared on Boston Public and Nip/Tuck.
Steven's wife, Samantha, has not yet been cast.
Earlier this week, Gerald McRaney was chosen to play the CIA operative that serves as the duo’s boss. »

Opens: July 23rd 2010
Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams
Director: Jay Roach
Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.
Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".
The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can »

From a casting agent’s perspective, Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio are as good as it gets. Not only can they both carry a movie, but they immerse themselves totally in their parts. Both, too, have displayed an impressive range: Damon can play an amnesiac superspy (The Bourne Identity) as convincingly as a slap-happy Siamese twin (Stuck on You), and Leo can embody a mentally retarded teen with the same ease as he can Howard Hughes (The Aviator). Finally, both have shown a willingness to learn accents, which opens up a slew of casting possibilities. The question is, which one has a better knack for it? If said agent were casting the part of a lisping Tasmanian eunuch, for instance, which actor would he rely on to nail the inflections? There are two particularly tricky accents we can compare them on: South African—which Damon uses in Clint Eastwood’s »

J.J. Abrams, a man chemically designed to create television shows, has another pilot in the works and this one will star veteran TV actor Gerald McRaney.
He's been picked for a pilot called Undercovers, a spy action show described as a cross between Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity.
McRaney will play a CIA boss overseeing a husband and wife spy couple. Abrams wrote the pilot with TV scribe Josh Reims who's also written scripts for ABC's Brothers & Sisters and Dirty Sexy Money. Abrams may also step in the director's chair for the pilot episode commissioned by NBC.

For anyone worried that J.J. Abrams may fizzle out of ideas, don’t count on it very soon. In television alone, the success of Alias was one thing, but now with the sixth and final season of the unbelievably popular Lost almost upon us and his new sci-fi series Fringe currently in it’s second season, Abrams’ prepares to introduce the pilot for a new series called Undercovers.
Abrams co-wrote the pilot for Undercovers with Josh Reims (Brothers & Sisters, Felicity) and is toying with the idea of directing it himself. The pilot is being produced by Wbtv and has been described as a mix between Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity. The story revolves around a married couple who work together as spies.
The first actor to be cast in Abrams’ new pilot is Gerald McRaney. The name may not sound familiar but many of you may remember him »

I have mixed feelings when it comes to New York Times critic Manohla Dargis's taste in films, but I always enjoy reading her reviews and apparently it seems I should be on the look out for more of her interviews as well as Jezebel.com has a few words from Dargis ranging from women in Hollywood, thoughts on Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker and why romantic comedies suck.
Here are some of my favorite moments with pieces cut here and there so as not to steal the entire interview (which I really wanted to do because it's quite entertaining): On director Kathryn Bigelow's success (achieved in part by getting funding outside of Hollywood): Something like a woman winning best director for directing an action movie and not a romantic comedy is symbolically important. Whether it then leads to a lot of women doing things outside of »

Pottermania, Tolkein-mania, Twilight-mania…it’s fair to say that the noughties have been a strong one for different kinds of mania. Moreover, it’s also been the time for some pretty awesome movies. 2000 marked a particularly promising start: American Beauty, the directorial debut from Sam Mendes was a unique critique on the American dream that attracted widespread acclaim, being nominated for 8 Academy Awards and winning 5; including Best Picture. His next project, Road to Perdition proved this success to be no fluke. Apparently this was a good time for new directors, as further evidenced by Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, and Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. Not that the decade was limited to low-budget concept flicks. Box office-smashing comic book adaptations became the name of the game; ranging from the great (Spider-Man, X-Men and Hellboy), to the not so much (Daredevil and Fantastic Four). It became (almost) socially acceptable »

Matt Damon was forced to perfect his scenes for new movie Invictus in one take after he was chastised by director Clint Eastwood when he asked for a reshoot.
The Bourne Identity star portrays Francois Pienaar, the captain of South Africa's rugby team, who attempts to lead them to victory during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
Eastwood is famed for his single take shoots, but Damon decided to pluck up the courage and push for a second try - only to be reprimanded by the legendary actor-turned-filmmaker.
Damon says, "The first scene I did with him I asked if I could do a second take, so I could try it a different way. So I asked him and he said, 'Why, so you can waste everybody's time?' (I was like,) 'Ok, moving on then!'"
The movie, based on author John Carlin's book, Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation, features Morgan Freeman as the former South African president. »

On January 19, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is returning to their HD DVD roots with the standalone release of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum on Blu-ray + DVD "Flipper" discs.
To follow on that news, we have for you today a first look at the individual Blu-ray covers for each of the Matt Damon as Jason Bourne films. They are virtually identical to the artwork seen on the slim cases that came packaged in the Bourne Trilogy set with the exception of a giant banner across the top advertising the dual format discs within.
Online retailer Amazon.com has already begun taking pre-orders for the standalone Bourne films at $19.99 each for $60 total for all 3, $15 less than buying the Bourne Trilogy box set.

Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry
List # 1
By Alex Simon
When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.
1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah. »

The ‘00s were full of important contributions to culture, but which ones will we still be talking about in another decade? Here are some of New York ’s picks: TV : The Sopranos for inventing quality cable, American Idol for changing the music industry, and of course all things Oprah Winfrey. Books : The Da Vinci Code for singlehandedly sustaining the book industry, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay for blazing the trail of combining geek lit with high lit. Movies : The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Identity —“Not art, but everyone will imitate it”—and Best in Show , one »

Only a few days ago, it was announced that Paul Greengrass, director of the second and third movies in the Bourne series, would not be returning to direct a fourth. It was unknown at that time how this would affect plans for another movie, but it now appears that Greengrass' permanent departure could mean the end of the Bourne franchise altogether.
In a recent interview with MTV, series star Matt Damon said, "I woldn't do it with anyone else." However, Damon was optimistic that Greengrass would return if they could find the right story.
I think it's gonna happen some day. We just got to get a script and we don't have one. So, embarking on something, you know, and aiming at a release date without any story would just be too risky. And, we don't wanna risk ... you know, we really love it! We love the character and we »

Rumors had been swirling since late last week, and this week Variety has confirmed that director Paul Greengrass is leaving the Bourne franchise. In the confirmation, the studio (Universal) released the following statement from the director: "I will always be grateful to have been the caretaker to Jason Bourne over the course of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. I'm very proud of those films and feel they express everything I most passionately believe about the possibility of making quality movies in the mainstream. My decision to not return a third time as director is simply about feeling the call for a different challenge. There's been no disagreement with Universal Pictures. The opportunity to work with the Bourne family again is a difficult thing to pass up, but we have discussed this together and they have been incredibly understanding and supportive. I've been lucky enough to have made four films for Universal, and »

Quietly and unexpectedly, Matt Damon has become the premier Hollywood actor of the past decade. He's lent his minutely constructed, surprisingly athletic performances to the films of directors Steven Soderbergh, Gus Van Sant, Paul Greengrass, Martin Scorsese and Clint Eastwood, a roster that's not coincidentally produced some of the most vital and successful films of the past ten years.
His remarkable career isn't simply a matter of a good agent. It's all in the manner in which he so carefully adapts his particular skills to the roles.
Damon's commitment is displayed on his body, which he relentlessly crafts to the specifications of each character -- he's almost the anti-movie star in his physical malleability. Take a look at how he changes from "The Bourne Identity" in 2002 to the Farrelly Brothers' "Stuck On You," a year later. In the former, he carved himself down to muscle and bone, a tightly packed »
