'Law & Order: Ci' scoop: Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio named new captain

1 November 2009 8:08 PM, PST | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

Law & Order: CI is undergoing yet another staffing change. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has been cast as the show's new captain, sources confirm to me semi-exclusively. She replaces Eric Bogosian, who is the latest Ci vet to depart as the show shifts its focus to Jeff Goldblum and new partner Saffron Burrows. As I previously reported, Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Bogosian will exit after appearing in the show's two-part season 9 premiere. Rumor has it one of the three will be carted off in a body bag. Thoughts on Mastrantonio as the new boss? Sound off below! (Additional reporting by Keith »

D'Onofrio To Quit Law & Order

25 September 2009 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Vincent D'Onofrio has confirmed he's handing over his TV cop badge and exiting Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

The Full Metal Jacket star will leave the show during an upcoming two-part season premiere; Jeff Goldblum will replace him on the hit show.

A statement from the actor, who played Detective Robert Goren in more than 130 episodes between 2001 and 2009, reads, "After eight seasons, and with the addition of Jeff Goldblum, now is the perfect time for me to explore other acting opportunities and I leave the show knowing it is in great hands with Jeff."

But he has assured fans his character won't be killed off: "I wouldn’t be surprised if Goren pops up from time to time." »

D'Onfrio and Erbe out at Law and Order: Ci?

25 September 2009 2:07 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Last week we told you that Julianne Nicholson had decided not to come back to Law and Order: Ci after having a baby, and in the same post we hinted that other changes might be coming to the USA show too. This could be those changes.

The Hollywood Reporter and set sources are both saying that Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Eric Bogosian are all being written out of the show. That would mean that Jeff Goldblum would be the star of the show and that new cast members would have to be hired. D'Onofrio might make guest appearances in the future.

I can see Bogosian going, since he always seemed like a recurring character at best and you can replace those. But D'Onofrio and Erbe are the heart of the show, really, and it's interesting if Goldblum (who I always assumed would last for a season or two »

Shields Making Movie Return In Furry Vengeance

9 July 2009 6:31 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Model-turned-actress Brooke Shields is making a return to movie theatres - she's landed her first major film role in 10 years.

The Blue Lagoon star's acting career has been limited to TV roles in recent years, with appearances in Nip/Tuck, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Two and a Half Men, and the recently axed Lipstick Jungle.

But, fresh from her touching tribute to late pal Michael Jackson at his Los Angeles memorial on Tuesday, Shields has scored a part in comedy Furry Vengeance.

The movie, in which she'll play Brendan Fraser's wife, follows a real estate developer and his troubles with a family of raccoons, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Shields' last mainstream movie role was in 1999's Black and White. »

Cage's Onscreen Brother Arrested

9 July 2009 5:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

The actor who played Nicolas Cage's brother in World Trade Center has been arrested on assault charges.

Wass Stevens, 45, who starred alongside Cage in the 2006 film, also works as a doorman in New York and on Wednesday was detained by police and charged with attacking a man outside Manhattan hotspot Avenue.

Stevens - real name Mark Wasserman - has been charged with assault and possession of a weapon after he allegedly beat a 24 year old student with the metal end of velvet rope after refusing him entry.

Peter Pak was taken to the city's St. Vincent's Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "He was very condescending. We started cursing at each other and arguing. He lifted the rope and tossed the end metal part at my face. My head cracked and I fell to the ground. I had to go to the hospital for a Cat scan. There was no internal damage but I had huge blaring headaches."

But Stevens' lawyer, Sal Strazzullo, says: "Wass is 100 per cent innocent. He was released on his own recognisance, without bail, which I think shows you the weakness of the case. There wasn't even a corroborating statement from the victim at the court hearing."

Stevens has appeared alongside Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler and in Richard Gere's upcoming movie Brooklyn's Finest. He has also had recurring roles in TV's Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Ugly Betty. »

Hargitay & Meloni End Contract Disputes

30 June 2009 9:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Law & Order: SVU co-stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have finally ended their months-long contract dispute with TV bosses, after signing two-year deals to remain on the show.

The pair reportedly jeopardised their return to the hit series by demanding more money from network bosses.

Hargitay and Meloni allegedly asked for a share of the programme's profits from the NBC network, in addition to the $350,000 (£233,335) they earned per episode - a rare deal similar to ones TV bosses cut with Law & Order: Criminal Intent stars Vincent D'Onofrio and Chris Noth.

Reports last April suggested executives had threatened to dump the pair when their contracts expire in May if an agreement could not be reached - but they have now agreed a new two-year deal.

Law & Order: SVU marks its eleventh year on air in September. »

A company that is distributing movies and live events to digitally equipped theaters via satellite announced Monday that it is setting up a question-and-answer session between the cast of a new movie and the audience watching it. Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp said the Q&A will take place on June 19 in conjunction with the 17-city opening of The Narrows, which stars Vincent D'Onofrio of Law and Order:Criminal Intent. "We are upgrading a passive viewing experience to be more dynamic, immersive and even interactive, and the possibility for continued innovation is endless," commented Bud Mayo, CEO of Cinedigm, in a statement. "We are truly excited to be able to present an event like this for the first time ever." In an interview with Reuters, D'Onofrio remarked, "Anything to get small films out there in a lot of cinemas [is great], because before this, it was art houses." »

Chopping Block Chopped

27 March 2009 2:37 AM, PDT | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

After receiving some of the lowest ratings of this or any other season, NBC's Chopping Block got chopped from the network's schedule Thursday. The cooking competition series hosted by chef Marco Pierre White will be replaced with reruns of Law & Order: Criminal Intent on Wednesday nights. The network indicated that viewers will be able to learn who won the competition when the remaining episodes air at a later date. However, there was some speculation that NBC might dump those episodes on one of its Internet or cable outlets. »

MyNetworkTV Won't Be A Network Anymore

10 February 2009 1:25 AM, PST | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

News Corp's minor-league network, MyNetworkTV -- News Corp also owns the Fox network -- announced Monday that it plans to turn itself into a "hybrid" service next September, presumably meaning that it will include a mix of reruns and movies along with new programs, including its most popular offering -- WWE wrestling on Friday nights. It plans to retain its current outlets but will provide them programming only five nights a week instead of six -- dropping shows on Saturday. One day a week will be devoted to reruns of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. News Corp said that it will announce additional programing "shortly." In an interview with today's (Tuesday) Los Angeles Times, MyNetworkTV President Greg Meidel said that the overhaul was necessary because of "this economic turmoil that we're in." He added: "We're blowing up the old traditional model and being innovative." »
