Edmond [Kirk Wilson] is an aspiring artist. Several months ago, he attended an art
showing and was particularly attracted to a canvas painted in red shadows.
He thought he saw death in the canvas, but the artist Diana [Dawn Spinella] (who happened
to be standing nearby) explained that the real meaning was rebirth. After
a few minutes of conversation, Edmond and Diana were obviously attracted
to each other, and Diana invited Edmond to become her apprentice. Edmond
jumped at the chance. They went to Diana's studio where they had sex, and
Diana revealed that she was a vampire. She proved it by stabbing herself
in the stomach. She then asked Edmond to allow her to turn him so that he
could be with her forever. Edmond refused.
Now it is some four months later. Edmond has become Diana's renfield.
It is his duty to pick up pretty homeless prostitutes and deliver them to
Diana so that she can use them as models. Unfortunately for the model,
Diana first drinks her fill of their blood, then collects any remaining
blood to use in her color pallette. When she has finished, Edmond cleans
up the mess and buries the body.
Diana has an art opening in four days and needs two more models to
complete her display. After securing one model, Edmond goes out for a
drink with his friend Connor [Leo Otero]. They happen upon a young hooker named Dee [Erin Smith]
who offers them sex for $20. Edmond isn't interested, but Connor takes Dee
up on it. Unlike Edmond, Connor fantasizes about being a vampire. When he
bites Dee's neck during sex, she screams and runs away.
A few nights later, while searching for another suitable model for
Diana's final painting, Edmond comes across Dee in an alley. She is
desperate and begs Edmond for help. Edmond takes her back to his place,
gives her a hot shower and some clean clothes, and offers her sanctuary so
that she can rest. Suddenly, Diana breezes in the front door. She likes
what she sees in Dee and offers her a chance to pose. Dee is totally
willing, but Edmond (knowing what Diana REALLY has in mind) refuses to
take her to Diana's house. To keep Dee from going on her own, Edmond ties
her to his bed and decides to kill Diana.
While Edmond's father Marvin [Larry Palatta] makes Italian meatballs and entertains
Dee with his songs and his Jimmy Durante impressions, Edmond goes over to
Connor's house to ask for help killing Diana. Connor points out that,
since Diana survived stabbing herself in the abdomen, it's possible that a
stake in the chest won't hurt her either, something that Edmond hadn't
thought about. They arrive at Diana's studio and try the normal vampire
killing articles--crucifixes and stakes--but Diana merely laughs at them,
bats them around a bit, informs them that only a vampire can kill a
vampire, and then knocks Edmond out.
Edmond wakes up to find Diana gone and Connor watching him. Edmond
can see right away from the wound on Connor's neck that Connor has been
bitten by Diana. Connor explains how, after Diana knocked Edmond out, she
vowed to kill Dee, bit Connor, and informed him that he won't totally turn
into a vampire until after he makes his first kill. Connor has decided
that his first kill will be Edmond. After going at each other for a few
rounds, during which Edmond breaks one of Connor's fangs and Connor breaks
Edmond's hand, the boys hug and make up. But when Connor takes another
lunge at Edmond's neck, Edmond is forced to plunge the stake into Connor's
chest.
Edmond lumbers home to find Dee missing and his father with a bite
wound on the neck. A note on the bed says that Diana has taken Dee and
intends to bury her in the graveyard with the others. Realizing that his
father is now a half vampire, Edmond coerces Marvin to go downtown with
him. The plan is for Marvin to kill a homeless guy, turn into a full
vampire, and then kill Diana. Edmond lures a homeless guy into the alley.
When the homeless guy finds what Edmond and Marvin have in store for him,
he has a heart attack on the spot. Marvin needs only to finish him off and
drink a bit of his blood.
Now that Marvin has turned into a full vampire, Edmond drives them to
the graveyard where he confronts Diana, who has tied Dee to a tree. Not
about to let Marvin kill her, Diana grabs Dee and leads Edmond and Marvin
on a wild goose chase. Just when Diana has cornered Dee and Edmond and is
about to kill them, Marvin sneaks up behind and stabs Diana with a
paintbrush. Diana goes up in flames. As the flames die out, Dee assures
Marvin that vampires are really IN nowadays, while Edmond paints their
picture using Diana's ashes and the paintbrush that killed her.
