Alex Zamm (Inspector Gadget 2) will direct Marvin the Martian for Warner Bros..
Along with Zamm, writers Paul Kaplan (TV’s Big Wolf on Campus) and Mark Torgrove have been tapped to write the script.
Marvin the Martian will be a fusion of live-action and CGI animation, similar to 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, which was dismal failure for the studio.
Broderick Johnson, Andrew Kosove and Steve Crystal will produce the project.
Production is slated to begin sometime in 2010 with a release in 2011.
Looney Tunes: Back in Action starred Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman with appearcens from Heather Locklear, Joan Cusack and Steve Martin. The film earned near $21 million domestically with a budget of $80 million. Ouch.

Late Friday night, the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Blog reported that director Alex Zamm is attached to helm a live-action Marvin the Martian film. Although Zamm hasn’t directed many films (the direct-to-video Inspector Gadget 2 stands out as the highlight of his career thus far), he is also currently attached to a film version of Hong Kong Phooey.
You heard that right, two classic cartoon characters are being remade for the big screen by one director with mostly direct-to-video experience. Sorry, correction, it’s not just direct-to-video movies. A quick look at IMDb shows that Zamm is also currently in post-production on Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2. Well, if that doesn’t put your mind to rest, I don’t know what will.
In addition to Zamm as director, Marvin the Martian will be written by the team of Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgrove who are also collaborating on

A Marvin the Martian movie sounds like a good idea, probably. There is no cartoon character more underrated. Unfortunately, the film will also following the recent trend of CG character in a live action world, which might work for some movies in which humans exist, but Marvin also exists in his own fictionalized, cartoon universe, so it will stray far from its original roots.
The crew doesn’t fill one with much hope, either. The La Times reports that Alex Zamm has signed on as the director, and he has to his credit films such as Inspector Gadget 2 and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (a franchise so bad that even Eddie Murphy has vacated it). The writers are Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove, who have both worked on Spin City and George Lopez. Their upcoming writing project is a CHiPS remake. Supposedly Mike Myers could be approach to play the martian,

I was a little surprised when a solo movie vehicle for interplanetary Looney Tune zealot Marvin the Martian was announced but that was some time ago and since then, I assumed it was dying a slow death out in the cold. Not so, apparently and Alex Zamm, director of the upcoming Bevery Hills Chihuahua 2 and previously attached to a Hong Kong Phooey adaptation, has been tapped to take on directing duties.
The only one of Zamm's movies that I've actually seen was Inspector Gadget 2, which he also co-wrote, and I have to say that I don't remember it very favourably. Maybe he's come on in leaps and bounds since then? I certainly share this love of cartoons he's apparently indulging, and I respect his desire to elasticise some live action movies into toon territory.
It's been so long since the Marvin movie was last talked about I'm a little

It's a long standing tradition in Hollywood of course to play it safe rather than risk making something completely original. Sequels? Remakes? Movies based on old TV shows or even toys? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Many is the time we've all rolled our eyes at the notion of a favorite film being needlessly sequelized but the very bottom of the sequel barrel is the straight-to-dvd kind.
Over at Moviefone Kevin Polowy has assembled a list of 15 Ludicrous Straight-to-dvd Sequels That Actually Exist. Some aren't all that surprising. The kids' video market seems to have lots of these so Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure and Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts (actually the fifth in the series) don't completely blindside me. On the other hand, did the world really need National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure with Randy Quaid boosted to headliner? The biggest

Today both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter have their own scoop to break about the live-action/computer generated Hong Kong Phooey movie. First, green (Variety) reports that the film has signed a director, one Alex Zamm. A quick look at Zamm's IMDb credits shows that he's got oodles of experience making films like Hong Kong Phooey like the direct-to-video Inspector Gadget 2 and one of the many Dr. Doolittle sequels that didn't star Eddie Murphy, so I suppose if you have to make a movie about a talking dog that knows karate, Alex Zamm is a pretty good choice.
Red (the Reporter) is breaking the news that the Hkp movie will be written by David Goodman who comes to us after working in the trenches on Family Guy. He also penned the screenplay for next year's remake of Who is Killing the Chefs of Europe?

It has been announced that yet another classic TV character is making his way onto the big-screen, “the number one super guy,” Hong Kong Phooey. Not only is the project moving ahead, but Alcon Entertainment already have both a director and a writer onboard to bring us a movie version of the mild-mannered janitor/kung fu crime fighter.
Alex Zamm (Snow) has been brought on-board to direct the live-action Hong Kong Phooey, while David A. Goodman will do the writing honors (note sarcasm). The film is an adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera 1970s cartoon TV series that ran for a surprisingly short 16 episodes (or 31 shorts). Alcon and Rat Entertainment will produce the project along with Brett Ratner (X-Men fans prepare your catapults) and Jay Stern (the Rush Hour movies). There’s no word on casting as of yet.
Now, when I say live-action I mean the people and surroundings will be so,

Hanna and Barbera are both probably spinning in their graves from the news that came down today that ‘Hong Kong Phooey’ will be getting a live action/animated feature film. Alex Zamm will be directing from a screenplay by David A. Goodman
The animated series followed the adventures of Phooey (Aka “Number One Super Guy”) whose alter ego is that of mild mannered janitor, Penry. He has a Phooeymobile. He takes his ideology from “The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu.” He has a partner, a police cat named Spot.
Goodman has mostly written for TV, but he has served as co-executive producer on “The Family Guy” and “Futurama.” Zamm’s directing duties have been seen in such classics as ‘Chairman of the Board’ and ‘Inspector Gadget 2.’ That’s right. ‘Inspector Gadget 2.’ The producers behind this adaptation couldn’t even get David ‘Cool as Ice’ Kellogg to step into the director’s slot.

With Raja Gosnell [1] set to direct The Smurfs, a direct-to-dvd Scooby-Doo prequel [2] on the way, and Robert Rodriguez still possibly doing a Jetsons movie, it was only a matter of time before someone else decided to jump on the Hanna-Barbera bandwagon. It appears that person is none other than Brett Ratner... let the ranting begin!
According to Variety [3], Ratner will be producing a live-action/CG hybrid feature film based on the '70s animated series Hong Kong Phooey. For those who are too young to remember it (or for those who need their memories refreshed), the show revolves around a talking dog named Penrod Pooch who works as a police station janitor. When he hears about a crime in progress, he runs into a filing cabinet and transforms into Hong Kong Phooey, a superhero with mystical kung fu powers. The main character was voiced by Scatman Crothers.

Who is the super hero? Sarge? No. Rosemary the telephone operator? No way, man! Alex Zamm, the director of Inspector Gadget 2 and Dr Doolittle 5? Well, possibly, if Hong Kong Phooey rescues him from Dtv Hell. For Penry, the mild mannered canine police station janitor and secret Bruce Lee martial arts superhero bungler, is about to star in a live action update, according to Variety. Hong Kong Phooey, you'll remember, was the number one super guy. He was also quicker than the human eye, had style, a groovy smile and a car that just wouldn't stop. And when the going got tough, he was really rough, with a Hong Kong Phooey chop. And you will now be singing that theme song all day. Chicly bow wow wow. Amazingly, given that it seemed to be playing for our entire childhoods, there were only 16 episodes, all first aired in 1974.The project is
