Amanda Peet is really dying to do a romantic comedy with John Cusack. She's made three movies with him, starting with 2003's Identity and now 2012, but they always seem to be trying to avoid getting killed, whether it's from a mysterious murderer or the world completely falling apart. In 2012, Peet and Cusack play a divorced couple who wind up on the run together when the world, quite, literally, begins to end. Along with her new husband (Tom McCarthy) and their two kids, Peet and Cusack go from California to the Himalayas to try to survive, and also rekindle a little bit of romance in the process. Maybe this is all a prequel for their inevitable romantic comedy after all. Read below for our roundtable interview with Peet, talking about being an actor from a family of doctors, whether or not she believes in the 2012 prophecies, and how, sometimes, the director »

The world will end. It’s going to happen in 2012, which is actually November 13, 2009. So good luck trying to set your calendars or bothering to live each day to the fullest.
Here’s interviews from the quality cast (Woody Harrelson, John Cusack, Amanda Peet and Thandie Newton) … even though the film will most likely choose special effects over substance every chance it gets. And no, it doesn’t always have to be that way, as Star Trek proved.
John Cusack – From Chicago, but that’s not the reason I root for the man. And it’s not even because of Say Anything…even though I love the film and any woman reading this just had a nice, happy sigh thinking about Lloyd Dobler. Cusack and I began with Better off Dead.
Amanda Peet- When I used to bother with thinking about who my “Hollywood crush” would be … Amanda Peet »

When the CW announced they were relaunching the iconic 90s Fox nighttime soap opera Melrose Place, the first question for many gay viewers was what the show would do with the character of Matt Fielding.
While Matt was one of the first regularly occurring gay roles on television, he was also a sexless character usually playing a supporting part in other character’s storylines. And when Matt did finally have a boyfriend, Fox was so concerned about showing the kiss that they cut away from the big moment.
Fast forward 17 years to the new Melrose Place. While Melrose 2.0 doesn’t have a gay character amongst the regularly occurring roles, the show does include Caleb Brewer, played by Victor Webster, as the ruthless boss of the publicity firm where Ella Simms, the show’s new vixen, works. We haven’t seen much of Caleb thus far, but we do know he smokes cigars, »

Although this is project already shooting (see photos here), casting announcements are still hitting. Variety has announced that Paul Dano has joined the cast of Wichita, an action comedy that stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The story centers on a federal agent, portrayed by Cruise, who finds himself teamed with a wholesome and upbeat Midwestern woman, played by Diaz. Dano will play a charming but mysterious scientist whose invention is at the center of Cruise and Diaz's chase. Fox has apparently given this a huge budget, with plane crashes and epic action set pieces, which is exciting, but who knows if it'll deliver. Wichita, which will have a new title by the time it's released sometime next year, is being directed by James Mangold (Girl Interrupted, Kate & Leopold, Identity, Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) and also stars Maggie Grace and Marc Blucas. The screenplay was written by Dana »

Update: Yahoo has posted the full Inception trailer, and you can check it out after the jump.
Sometimes anticipation is delightful; sometimes it's maddening. With Christopher Nolan's über-mysterious, eagerly awaited 2010 sci-fi release Inception, anticipation is a bit of both. We know precisely two things about the plot: that it is a "contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind", and -- thanks to the possibly less-than-reliable IMDb blurb synopsis -- that it involves a "CEO-type who gets caught up in a blackmailing scandal." It's that first description that's so tantalizing. My immediate instinct was to think of the John Cusack/James Mangold thriller Identity, which I quite liked but would rather not see again, if you get me. But suffice it to say I am not worried that Inception will be a retread.
The teaser trailer, which should be officially released later today, has leaked in bootlegged »

More often than not, we usually learn the identity of the new Bachelor right after The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose special. But this season, ABC is taking its sweet time while viewers wait in anticipation. And though there are already several potential names in talks, including Jake and Kiptyn from The Bachelorette, there's also that possibility that the new love searcher will be someone new.
"I don't have the final decision, but I think it works when you have someone come back. You have that built-in, vested interest in that person. We're also taking the pulse of America. We have a poll on ABC.com," The Bachelor host Chris Harrison told TV Guide.com.

John Cusack and Amanda Peet run for their lives in this action-packed sneak peek.
"2012"

Nobody makes a better movie trailer than Roland Emmerich — the man behind "Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "Godzilla." And while many might be tempted to insert a joke here about how good or bad those movies actually turned out to be, we'll hold our tongues and simply say this: "2012" looks awesome.
So, with our fingers crossed that the November 13 apocalyptic action flick actually delivers the goods, we present our shot-by-shot breakdown of the latest masterpiece by the world's greatest movie-trailer director:
Shot 1: "Mankind's Earliest Civilization ... "
Shot 2: Some Mayan ruins
Shot 3: " ... Warned Us ... "
Shot 4: Outer space. Uh-oh, this isn't looking good for the little blue marble we call home.
Shot 5: " ... This Day Would Come." Darkening forests and the eclipsed sun, with the words playing over them. »

It’s been a long time coming but it looks like Tom Cruise has finally chosen his next project. The diminutive star is in advanced negotiations to star alongside his Vanilla Sky co-star Cameron Diaz in James Mangold’s Wichita.
For the past several months Cruise has been circling several high profile thrillers like David Cronenberg’s The Matarese Circle, Bharat Nalluri‘s The Tourist, Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck’ The 28th Amendment and Len Wiseman’s Motorcade. All of these films went through multiple rewrites (costing several million dollars) to get them “Tom Ready“.
However, it looks like the star wants to mix some comedy with his action and that’s why he’s chosen Wichita. According to Variety the tagline for the comedy-thriller is simple:
Cruise will play a secret agent who pops in and out of the life of a single woman.

From 30 Days Of Night to The Twilight Saga?! This is surprising, especially considering this filmmaker bad-mouthed the first movie via his Twitter when it came out last year, but Summit Entertainment has released a press release that director David Slade (Hard Candy) will direct Eclipse, the 3rd chapter in The Twilight Saga from a script by Melissa Rosenberg.
The release says, ""Stephenie Meyer's 'Eclipse' is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice," says Summit head Erik Feig. "We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the 'Eclipse' he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010."

Despite a Variety piece a few days back confirming that director Juan Antonio Bayona would be helming Eclipse, the 3rd film in the Twilight series, Summit Entertainment is speaking out to clear up the rumors. Erik Feig, President of Production at Summit Entertainment told the La Times "The Eclipse directing job hasn’t been offered to Juan Antonio or anyone else. We’ve met with three or four talented filmmakers and we’ll be meeting with three or four more other candidates before we make any decision. No one has been offered the job."
Drew Barrymore, Identity’s James Mangold and Paul Weitz, whose brother Chris is helming the second in the franchise, New Moon are all contendors at this point.
The Twilight Saga 'New Moon' starts shooting later this month with a release date of November 20th, 2009 locked down. Chris Weitz is directing. Dakota Fanning joins returning actors Kristen Stewart, »

Just two days ago we reported that "Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona has become one of the top directors being considered for Eclipse", the third chapter in the Twilight saga. The story first surfaced via the trades, most notably The Hollywood Reporter. In a classic case of information changing down the line (like that old grade shool "phone game"), many sites began reporting that Bayona (The Orphanage) was a sure thing, already signed for the job. The key phrase of "being considered" somehow changed to "has been signed" on sites around the web.
Last night, The La Times Big Picture blog had to clarify that a director had not been chosen, largely fueled by a Variety article bearing the tagline "Juan Antonio Bayona will helm Eclipse." The Variety piece set off a flurry of activity, with hundreds of sites reporting that the director had been chosen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, hot Spanish filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona has become one of the top directors being considered for Eclipse, the third in the Twilight film series based on Stephenie Meyer novels. If he winds up landing the job, it would, well, eclipse his adaptation of David Moody’s novel Hater, which he’s currently developing for Universal, as his English-language film debut.
Bayona (pictured), who won raves for the Guillermo del Toro-produced ghost chiller The Orphanage, is the only foreigner and genre specialist among the key announced contenders for the Eclipse job, who also include Drew Barrymore, Identity’s James Mangold and Paul Weitz, whose brother Chris is helming the second in the movie franchise, New Moon. Eclipse has more pronounced horror elements than its more romantically oriented predecessors in Meyer’s literary franchise, including a series of mysterious murders in addition to battles between vampires and werewolves. »

Dimension Films is developing a modern-day high school-set take on Agatha Christie's best-selling mystery novel Ten Little Indians, report the trades. Plot details are being kept under wraps for the untitled project, but it will involve a teen social networking site. T.S. Faull (Butterfly: A Grimm Love Story) is writing the script. Faull said the screenplay will center on a social networking situation with dangerous consequences. "Social networking is alluring, but one always takes a risk when engaging on these sites," Faull said. "Online identities can be deceptive." The thriller is based on an original idea from actress Sara Rue (Less Than Perfect) and producing partner Robert Green (Spaced). Rue and Green will produce. Adam Goldworm of Industry Entertainment is co-producing. Originally published in 1939, the story revolves around eight people of different social classes who have been invited to go to a mysterious mansion. Upon arriving, they are »

If there’s one thing James Mangold’s films have in common, it’s that they have nothing in common. From heavy drama (Girl, Interrupted) to gritty Western (3.10 To Yuma) to mindfuck thriller (Identity) to sweet rom-com (Kate & Leopold) and musical biopic (Walk The Line), Mangold is clearly not a man who likes to repeat himself. So he’s at it again with his next film, which will see him enter the realm of the legal thriller for the first time. The untitled movie will be based on the true story of two brothers, both lawyers in New Orleans, who took on the might of a multnational oil company to seek justice for the families of workers killed when a typhoon sank their rig in the South China Sea.Sasha Jenson and Casey La Scala, who discovered the story and brought Mangold on board, wrote the screenplay for the movie, »

Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Juliet, a novel by Danish author Anne Fortier, for James Mangold to direct. The filmmaker will also produce the project along with his wife, Cathy Konrad, through their Tree Line Film banner. The story, which takes a cue from Romeo and Juliet, toggles from medieval Siena to the present day in a story about a woman who discovers she may be descended from the people who inspired one of the most popular and tragic love stories of all time. The book will be published in 2010 and gained a lot of attention at September's Frankfurt book fair. A search for a writer to adapt the material is underway. Mangold’s directing credits include Girl, Interrupted, Kate & Leopold, Identity and Walk the Line, which was nominated for five Oscars. He last directed the 2007 western 3:10 to Yuma. No start date has been set. »
