On one level, the news here is rather straightforward—a new comedy web series, The Suffersons, debuted online today from creator Blair Singer. The New York based playwright and staff writer on TV hits Weeds and Monk, has crafted a minimalist comedy about an out-of-work accountant arduously trying to pen his first novel under the chastising eye of his acerbic wife.
Michael Chernus (Bored to Death, Mercy) stars as the budding novelist Josh Sufferson alongside Susan Pourfar as his mocking wife Dana. As it unfolds, Dana's mocking turns competitive as she learns he's writing about their marriage, prompting her to start crafting her own account of the

While the series is only halfway through its first season, USA has given the go-ahead for a second season of freshman drama White Collar.
White Collar follows conman Neal Caffrey (Matthew Bomer) who makes a deal to help FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay ) while searching for his missing girlfriend, Kate (Alexandra Daddario). The crime drama also stars Willie Garson, Tiffani Thiessen, Sharif Atkins, Natalie Morales, and James Rebhorn.
The show debuted in October with a bang and 5.4 million viewers. The ratings dwindled to a low of 3.85 million during the first half of its season but ended on a high note. Following the series finale of Monk, White Collar's fall finale drew 5.5 million.
Though only half of the first season has aired thus far, the show's already been renewed for a second season. Jeff Eastin, White

Next year's list of Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations puts three films and three television shows under three categories. In terms of number, critics' choice "Up in the Air" is battling it out with "Inglourious Basterds" and "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire" while "30 Rock" gets heavy competition from "Dexter" and "The Closer".
The nominees that were read out on Thursday, December 17, also revealed that several actors receive multiple nominations. In motion picture category, Penelope Cruz earns two for starring in "Nine". In television, Tina Fey scores also two for being the lead of "30 Rock". Her co-star Alec Baldwin is also having two chances to walk away with an award.
Nomination by studio for theatrical motion pictures is led by Paramount Pictures which distributes "Up in the Air", "The Lovely Bones" and "Star Trek". Meanwhile, nomination by television network is dominated by NBC which is the home for

The precursors have been squeezed into an unusually small period this year. The Globes, Bfca, Nyfcc, Lafca and SAG all announced in the space of one week. That's not business as usual. I guess this is one way to squeeze out all those regional critics groups because... who will care now? What does all this mean for Oscar? Generally clear consensus between the major precursors means that Oscar will be nearly a carbon copy. But with an unusual amount of time between the actors announcement and the announcement of Oscar nominations (Still more than a month away) it Might mean that Academy voters react to and against these lists, rather than along with them if you know what I mean. Do you know what I mean?

The morning the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for the 16th annual SAG awards. The actual ceremony will be held Saturday, January 23rd. There are a lot of gay-faves on the list of nominees.
For starters, Colin Firth picked up a nomination for A Single Man,and Sigourney Weaver is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or
Miniseries thanks to Prayers for Bobby.
Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.
And surprisingly (at least for me) the cast of True Blood is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
You can check out the full list of nominess after the break!

Causing a yawn followed by sad resignation, this year’s Screen Actors Guild Award nominations are unimaginative and a depressing indicator of what we could be seeing when the Oscar nominations are announced on February 2nd. There’s not a single nominee that surprises. Even the out-of-left-field Best Supporting Actress nomination of Diane Kruger for Inglourious Basterds feels more like a comment on the lack of good roles for actresses rather than an attempt to bring attention to an overlooked performance.
You can see the full list of nominees after the jump along with the equally-dull nominations for TV actors.

'Inglourious Basterds,' '30 Rock' also score big nominations.
By Eric Ditzian
George Clooney in "Up in the Air"
Thursday morning's nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards have confirmed what has become increasingly clear since the Golden Globe noms two days earlier: Films like "Up in the Air" and "Precious" are the indisputable favorites heading into the peak of awards season.
Both of those films, as well as Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," racked up three nods each, followed by the likes of "The Hurt Locker" and "Nine," each with two. With just five motion picture categories — including an Outstanding Performance by a Cast in place of the more traditional recognition for best film — no one movie dominated the results.
The films recognized for their casts are "An Education," "Hurt Locker," "Basterds," "Nine" and "Precious." Save for "Education," all of these films were recognized in a Best Motion Picture category at the Globes.

Nominations for the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced this morning just two days after the 2010 Golden Globe Nominations giving us plenty to chew on heading into the weekend. As for surprises I can say there are really only a couple.
First off, one nod that's not really a surprise is the one that went to Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker, most likely edging out Daniel Day-Lewis for Nine. Considering we are talking about actors nominating actors this seems about right. However, Diane Kruger getting a nomination for her performance in Inglourious Basterds is a bit of a surprise, especially as she's beating out her co-star in that film Melanie Laurent, not to forget Marion Cotillard in Nine, both performances I believe are more deserving. Don't expect Oscar to follow suit with that choice.
The other nominations causing me to scratch my head

The Golden Globes nominations announcement brought about the usual amount of outrage and shock, depending on who you talked to.
In the Zap2it offices, some minor debate over Sandra Bullock's double nomination, one for the drama "The Blind Side," which all agreed was deserved, and another for the romantic comedy "The Proposal," an enjoyable bit of froth. There was admittedly no love lost for the absent "All About Steve."
Here's a breakdown of some of the other snubs and surprises that arose from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association:
The Snubs
"Lost" - It got lost from the TV drama category. Too time-shifty for you Hfpa? It might have lost its way a bit, but last season rocked. Tony Shalhoub - It's not just sentiment for "Monk's" final season that made us expect a nod. His work is deserving of recognition."9" - Who cares if this wasn't made for kids?

As he is now finished wrapping up the eighth and final season of his hit TV series Monk, actor Tony Shalhoub sat down with Sling's Chris Bernier and talked about his post-Monk plans. It was during this video interview that Shalhoub dropped an exclusive scoop: he has optioned the screen rights to Mutual Contempt, Jeff Shesol's non-fiction book about the feud between Lyndon Johnson and Robert Kennedy in the years after JFK's assassination.
Shalhoub is currently preparing to shop the project around town. "It's a really interesting story," said the actor about why he got involved with this project. "What I love about it is the politics at the time, the world situation at the time parallels the present day. I think that there's a lot of juice there."
Shalhoub also spoke his thoughts about whether he would ever return to playing Monk again and about another film that

If I were in Tony Shalhoub's shoes right now and I was facing the end of a long-running show that helped make me a star, I would spend just about everyday sitting in a corner in the fetal position, rocking back and forth and mumbling to myself.
But that's not Tony. The Monk star had a nice, candid chat with the folks from Sling about Monk's past impact on television and the future of his career, which includes a few films and some interesting choices for producing. As for another Monk reunion, well, Tony says "never say never."

"Monk" hit the big time on its way out.
The long-running USA Network detective series starring Tony Shalhoub enjoyed a series finale Friday, Dec. 4 that attracted nearly 9.5 million viewers, a record high for the most-watched regular drama series episode on basic cable, according to Variety.
"It's truly gratifying to have been on the air for eight years and to finish the run with a beautiful episode that people wanted to be a part of," said Mandeville Films' David Hoberman, an executive producer on the show. "'Monk' has achieved a lot in its eight years on the air -- this being one of them."
In the finale, San Francisco cop-turned-private eye Adrian Monk (Shalhoub) finally solves the case of wife's murder, a mystery that had been haunting him for the entire series.
Shalhoub won three Emmys for his work on "Monk."
