NBC came in second with just a 3.7/7. Fox placed third with a 3.4/7, and ABC trailed with a 3.0/6. Researchers were scouring the record books to find a lower-rated week. It placed first with 12.04 million. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. America's Got Talent, NBC, 7.5/13; 2. Criminal Minds, CBS, 6.0/10; 3. 2 July 2008 10:37 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Only three scripted television shows wound up in the Nielsen top-ten last week, CBS's Two and a Half Men, Criminal Minds, and CSI: Miami, all of them reruns. CBS won the week with an average 4.4 rating and an 8 share representing just 6.6 million viewers. NBC placed second with a 4.0/7. Fox came in third with a 3.5/6, and ABC trailed with a 3.3/6. ABC and Fox ran neck-and-neck during the first two hours of primetime Monday night, with ABC scoring slightly higher in the overall ratings and Fox slightly higher in total viewers. ABC's strength came from the summer reality series The Bachelorette, while Fox relied on repeats of its regular season hits, Bones and House. CBS took over the lead at 10:00 p.m. with a rerun of CSI: Miami.

13.6 Million Watch Lakers' Debacle

18 June 2008 10:35 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The NBA Finals closer between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics -- a game that must have been painful for Lakers' fans to watch (the L.A. team was brutally trounced 131-92), drew strong ratings despite the blowout. The ABC telecast averaged a 7.3 rating and a 12 share during the primetime period from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., edging out the return of America's Got Talent on NBC, which posted a 7.1/12. (At its primetime peak at 10:30 p.m. the game drew 13.61 million viewers.) Basketball was also the name of the game last week as three televised games wound up as the most-watched television shows of the week. Nevertheless, CBS prevailed again among overall households, averaging a 4.9 rating and a 9 share. ABC and Fox tied with a 4.3/8, while NBC trailed with a 3.8/7. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. NBA Finals - Game 5, ABC, 10.2/19; 2. NBA Finals - Game 3, ABC, 9.2/16; 3. NBA Finals - Game 4, ABC, 8.7/16; 4. NCIS, CBS, 6.9/12; 4. ABC (W)Hoops It Up

11 June 2008 10:36 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The first two games of the NBA finals produced the best initial ratings for the championship series in four years. Sunday's telecast, which drew 13.5 million viewers, attracted an audience that was 60 percent larger than the comparable game a year ago. Although it did not land in the top ten (largely because three shows tied for ninth place) the new CBS drama Swingtown got off to a solid start with 9 million viewers. Washington Post TV writer Lisa de Moraes said that the show received "a promo shot in the arm" from the Parents Television Council, which urged CBS stations to drop it because of its allegedly salacious content. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. NBA Finals - Game 1, ABC, 8.7/16; 2. NBA Finals - Game 2, ABC, 8.5/15; 3. 60 Minutes, CBS, 6.5/13; 3. (Tie) Csi: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 6.5/11; 5. Two and a Half Men, CBS, 6.4/10; 6. Million Dollar Password, CBS, 6.3/11; 7. Csi: Ny, CBS, 6.2/11; 8. Csi: Miami, CBS, 6.1/10; 9. By Tom O'Neil, The Envelope

June 4, 2008

Emmy's winners for acting are chosen in a three-tier system by actors who belong to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. During the first two weeks of June, they participate in a popular vote that determines a Top 10 runoff in each race. Finalists submit a sample episode of their best work to judges, whose scores are combined by accountants in a 50-50 mix with results of the original popular vote. The five nominees in each category are then announced July 17. Winners are decided based on judges' scores of the sample episodes and are revealed at the awards ceremony to

Step It Up and Dance: Elizabeth Berkley Takes on Something More "Rewarding" Plus a Preview on Tonight's Season Finale

5 June 2008 4:00 AM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

Step It Up and Dance has given us nine grueling episodes of hard core dancing.  A few weeks ago, we saw Jessica Feltman leaving the show after she was eliminated.  Through the course of the competition, she has risen to be one of the more emotional of the competitors, and she admitted to having a mental breakdown because she was really nervous.  Jessica can breathe a sigh of relief now that she’s out of the competition, but we can’t say the same for those who are still in it.  In fact, part two of the season finale of Step It Up and Dance will be aired tonight on Bravo, and fans cannot wait to see it.

For those who want a sneak peek of tonight’s show, click on the clip below.

Meanwhile, in other news, host Elizabeth Berkley has ventured into another project that she is truly proud of.

'Idol' Helps Fox Win Final Week Of Season

29 May 2008 10:04 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

After much hand wringing over the erosion of ratings for American Idol during its latest season, the two final episodes last week -- Tuesday's performance show and Wednesday's results show -- wound up capturing bigger ratings than the comparable finale a year ago. Tuesday's telecast drew 27 million viewers; Wednesday's, 32 million. Together they gave Fox an easy win for the final official week of the 2007-08 season with an average 7.3 rating and a 13 share. CBS and ABC tied for second with a 5.6/10, while NBC continued to trail with a 3.5/6. Meanwhile, Fox reality shows that produced solid ratings for the network when they followed American Idol continued to lead their rivals on their own this week, the first week of the summer season -- although their numbers were down from the previous week. Hell's Kitchen and Moment of Truth likely benefited from the fact that the competition was a slew of network reruns. On Wednesday, the two-hour return of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance led the field, with the first hour recording a 5.3/9 and the second, a 6.3/10.

The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research: 1. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 17.7/28; 2. American Idol (Tuesday), Fox, 15.1/24; 3. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 12.9/20; 4. Dancing With The Stars (Monday), ABC, 12.4/20; 5. Grey's Anatomy, ABC, 11.8/19; 6. CSI: Miami, CBS, 10.4/17; 7. NCIS, CBS, 10.3/16; 8. House (Monday), Fox, 10.0/15; 9. Two and a Half Men, CBS, 9.0/14; 10. Criminal Minds, CBS, 8.3/13.

Final Sweeps Week A Mixed Bag

21 May 2008 8:56 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The penultimate results episode of Fox's American Idol last Wednesday attracted 24.9 million viewers, making it the top-rated show of the week. But although Tuesday's performance episode of Idol came in second for the week and the Fox drama House landed at No. 10, Cbs's overall line-up performed more consistently, averaging a 6.7 rating and an 11 share. ABC placed second with a 6.2/12, while Fox settled for third in the overall ratings with a 5.6/9. (Nevertheless, it was No. 1 with the 18-49-year-old demographic that advertisers court.) NBC, which placed only one show, Law & Order, in the top 25, was far behind with an average 3.6/6. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 14.6/22; 2. American Idol (Tuesday), Fox, 14.4/23; 3. Dancing With the Stars (Monday), ABC, 11.9/18; 4. Csi: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 11.2/17; 5. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 11.1/17; 6. Desperate Housewives, ABC, 10.7/17; 7. Grey's Anatomy, ABC, 10.5/16; 8. Without a Trace, CBS, 9.6/16; 9. Ncis, CBS, 9.5/15; 10. Yamaguchi Appears To Ice A Win

20 May 2008 10:12 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi seemed assured of winning the Dancing With the Stars competition Monday night after she received a perfect score of 30 from the show's judges. After her cha-cha performance, judge Carrie Ann Inaba told her, "Kristi, it's ladies night. You won that hands down." Noting that men have won the contest for the past four seasons, Inaba said that they are generally "crowd-pleasers, and it's very difficult to keep up with that. But not tonight girl." The show received the highest ratings of the night -- by far -- despite season or series finales of several shows. Dancing earned a 12.3 rating and a 20 share at 8:00 p.m.. The second-place show, Fox's Bones, drew half those numbers, a 6.3/10. Fox's House moved into first place at 9:00 with a 9.9/15, while CBS took the lead at 10:00 as Csi: Miami posted a 10.3/17.

Tom Sizemore made his TV return following his 2007 prison spell on Csi: Miami in America on Monday night.

The Black Hawk Down star was released early from a 16-month prison sentence in December.

He was incarcerated for eight months after violating his probation in relation to a 2004 methamphetamine conviction.

And Csi: Miami regular David Caruso, who fought to land Sizemore a role on his drama, says, "He brings so much to a situation like this and he reaches deeper and deeper... We're glad to have him back."

Sizemore adds, "It was David in the end that made this work, especially in light of where I'd been."

Sweeps Swept By Low Ratings

7 May 2008 10:46 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

It certainly didn't look like a sweeps week last week as many ordinarily top-rated television shows recorded some of their lowest ratings ever. Even the No. 1 show, American Idol, saw a worrisome drop in audience figures. The Associated Press observed that Cbs's Csi: Miami had its smallest audience ever. Csi: Crime Scene Investigation drew its second smallest audience ever for an original episode. (The smallest audience was recorded a week earlier.) Abc's Grey's Anatomy recorded its smallest audience since moving to Thursday nights two years ago. Nbc's Deal or No Deal had its third smallest audience. For the week overall, CBS continued to lead with an average 6.5 rating and an 11 share. ABC placed second with a 6.0/10. Fox came in third with a 5.7/10. (It ranked first among adults 18-49, however.) And NBC trailed with an average 4.3/7. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. American Idol (Tuesday), Fox, 14.5/23; 2. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 13.6/21; 3. Dancing With the Stars (Monday), ABC, 11.8/18; 4. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 11.4/17; 5. Csi: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 11.1/17; 6. CBS Up; CBS News Down

30 April 2008 3:39 PM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Thanks in large measure to the success of new episodes of its Thursday-night lineup, CBS recaptured the weekly primetime ratings crown last week. But the news wasn't all good. Ratings for the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric fell once again to a new record low as it averaged just 5.34 million viewers (3.7 rating and an 8 share), with analysts predicting that it will decline even further as recent firings of top news personalities at local CBS stations in key markets draw audiences away from those stations, undercutting their lead-in strength for the Couric newscast. By contrast, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams attracted 8.02 million viewers (5.5/12) edging out Abc's World News with Charles Gibson, which averaged 7.79 million viewers (5.4/12). The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. American Idol (Tuesday), Fox, 14.2/22; 2. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 13.7/21; 3. Dancing With the Stars (Monday), ABC, 11.7/18; 4. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 11.6/18; 5. Grey's Anatomy, ABC, 10.7/16; 6. Csi: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 10.6/16; 7. Desperate Housewives, ABC, 10.3/16; 8. Csi: Miami, CBS, 9.3/15; 9. Dancing With the Stars danced away with another ratings victory for ABC Monday night as a 90-minute edition averaged 17.92 million viewers, peaking in the final half-hour beginning at 9:00 p.m. with 18.97 million. That put it ahead in the overall ratings over Fox's House, which averaged 14.51 million viewers for the entire hour. Nevertheless, when it came to the all-important 18-49-year-old demographic group, House came out ahead. CBS took the lead at 10:00 p.m. with Csi: Miami, which drew 17.03 million viewers.

CBS said that it plans to air its magazine show 48 Hours Mysteries in the time period for the next two weeks, then turn it over to its returning legal drama Shark.

Even with its Tuesday and Wednesday editions of American Idol averaging more than 25 million viewers, Fox was unable to walk away with another weekly victory in the ratings. Rising out of the ashes of the recent writers' strike, CBS came roaring back with a new episode of Csi: Crime Scene Investigation on Thursday drawing 20.6 million viewers. In fact, six of the top ten shows of the week aired on CBS. The four exceptions: the two Idol episodes and two editions of Abc's Dancing With the Stars. CBS averaged a 7.2 rating and a 12 share for the week, well ahead of Fox, which scored a 5.9/10. ABC finished third with a 4.9/8, while NBC trailed with a 4.2/7. Idol, Dancing Repeat

2 April 2008 11:34 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Ratings results last week looked pretty much like they did the week before, with Fox's American Idol claiming the first two spots in the Nielsen top ten and Abc's Dancing With the Stars taking the next two spots. In fact, their margin of victory appeared so great that it appeared likely that they would continue to claim those rankings while both of them remained on the air this season. Only two scripted shows finished in the top ten, Cbs's Csi: Miami, which finished fifth, and Cbs's Two and a Half Men, which finished eighth. Overall, CBS won the week with a 6.1 rating and a 10 share. Fox followed close behind with a 5.9/10. ABC placed third with a 5.7/9, while NBC trailed with a 5.1/8. Meanwhile, on cable, Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards telecast reportedly averaged 7.4 million viewers on Saturday, making it the most-watched show on cable for the week. It was also the top program on all of television for children. The top ten shows of the week according to Nielsen Research:1. American Idol (Wednesday), Fox, 15.2/24; 2. American Idol (Tuesday), Fox, 14.0/21; 3. Dancing With the Stars (Monday), ABC, 13.0/20; 4. Dancing With the Stars (Tuesday), ABC, 11.0/17; 5. Csi: Miami, CBS, 10.3/17; 6. April Madness?

1 April 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

With all No. 1 seeds making it to the Final Four in the Ncaa men's basketball tournament, CBS is hoping that ratings for March Madness will be given a significant lift in April. They are down an average of 7 percent from the same number of games a year ago. In a conference call on Monday, CBS Sports officials blamed the number of "blowout" games that appeared settled long before the end of the broadcasts for the audience erosion -- something that is not expected to happen with the top teams vying for the championship. Meanwhile, without basketball Monday night, CBS scored strongly with its old stalwarts Two and a Half Men, which drew an 8.7 rating and a 13 share, and Csi: Miami, which posted a 10.1/17. The New Adventures of Old Christine also had one of its best nights, drawing an 8.1/12. But a 90-minute edition of Abc's Dancing With the Stars wiped out all the competition as it averaged a 12.9/20. In the end, ABC drew the most viewers overall for the night; CBS drew the most viewers among adults 18-49.
