27 July 2009 6:49 AM, PDT | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Entourage star Jeremy Piven has revealed that he would love Dustin Hoffman to make a guest appearance on the show. The actor, who plays agent Ari Gold in the HBO series, told E! Online's Marc Malkin that he wanted to reunite with his The Runaway Jury co-star on the small screen. "I'd like to do a scene with Dustin Hoffman where I represent him," he explained. "He's my client, and I'm really trying to get him to do a big movie that he'd (more) »

Will Smith Uses Will Power To Move The ‘City That Sailed’

9 July 2009 7:13 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Some people have a strong dislike for Will Smith due to the perceived ego of both his characters and the actor himself.  Expect that trend to continue with Smith's latest project where he plays a man capable of moving entire islands through sheer desire. Per Variety, Smith will be starring in City That Sailed.  The plot is described as being about "a father who lives on the opposite side of the ocean from his daughter. Their bond is so strong that it causes Manhattan to split off and float across the Atlantic." That's pretty stupid. There are two rays of light here though that keep this project interesting and potentially worthwhile.  The first (and the one many of you may not agree is a positive thing), Smith is developing the film with his I Am Legend helmer, Francis Lawrence.  Love it or hate it, Lawrence brought a strong visual sense to that movie that would benefit a »

John Grisham Wants His Own 'Testament'

23 June 2009 4:03 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

After resisting overtures for a decade, a best-selling author received an offer he couldn't refuse. John Grisham has finally allowed his 1999 novel The Testament to be optioned, according to Variety. Grisham will have "the right to provide creative input, which he didn't always have in the past -- one of the factors that pushed him away from Hollywood until about three years ago, when his fans prodded him to end his self-imposed movie moratorium."

The Testament revolves around a self-made billionaire who leaves his entire fortune to his illegitimate daughter, a young woman who lives and works "with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil." An attorney who's seen better days helps her battle the billionaire's relatives for the fortune. Producer Mark Johnson says: "It had the best of the courthouse stuff that John writes so well, plus this exotic adventure in deepest Brazil."

John Grisham Options ‘The Testament’ For Film

23 June 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Now a decade after John Grisham’s novel “The Testament” first landed in bookstores, the bestselling author has decided that it is time for the book to join his other titles like “The Associate,” “A Time to Kill,” and “The Rainmaker” in Hollywood. The best-selling author, who reportedly held out for creative control over the film, seems to have found a deal he liked enough to option the book to producers Mark Johnson and Hunt Lowry, and 821 Entertainment.

“I’ve been calling [Grisham and his agent] since I read ["The Testament"] the first time and felt it had the best of the courthouse stuff that John writes so well, plus this exotic adventure in deepest Brazil,” Johnson told Variety.

Grisham’s story follows an $11 billion fortune left to a businessman’s illegitimate daughter in Brazil. The writer’s trademark courtroom drama enters the fray when an struggling lawyer steps up to help her defend her inheritance »

John Grisham Digs Into The Vault For Another Movie

23 June 2009 11:52 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When you're John Grisham and you're cranking out books at a ridiculous rate, you can afford to hold out for a better price. So after 10 years of stonewalling on selling the rights to The Testament, a novel about a family inheritance battle, Grisham has offered them up to 821 Entertainment Group. According to Variety Grisham will receive six-figures that could turn into even more if the movie gets made and becomes a hit. He'll also get creative input, even though the last movie of his that was a hit, Runaway Jury, came out in 2003. Does the world really need any more John Grisham movies? Probably not. But hey, it's hard times, and if Grisham needs to dig into the vault to scare up some cash, I guess I can only be jealous. »

Grisham’s The Testament Getting Movie Treatment

22 June 2009 9:36 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

John Grisham has made a deal to bring his 1999 bestselling novel The Testament to the big screen, report the trades. Producers Mark Johnson (Shooter) and Hunt Lowry (Shorts, Donnie Darko) have teamed with 821 Entertainment Group to option the book. In the novel, a billionaire defies his greedy relatives and leaves his $11 billion fortune to a mysterious illegitimate daughter doing charity work in the Brazilian wetlands. A down-and-out lawyer helps her battle her relatives over the fortune. Producer Johnson has been trying to bring the book to the screen since it was first published. Grisham hasn’t been interested, but things changed when Johnson joined forces with Grisham's old friend Lowry, who previously produced the author’s A Time to Kill in 1996. The deal will also give Grisham the right to provide creative input, something he hasn’t always had in the past and one of the factors that has pushed »

Leonardo DiCaprio Set to Take on the World of Online Poker

15 June 2009 8:20 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Might this become the unofficial sequel to Rounders? Paramount has picked up an untitled pitch from Brian Koppelman and David Levien that takes place in the world of online poker. Leonardo DiCaprio will be developing this through his company Appian Way and is set to star in the lead role. Koppelman and Levien last write The Girlfriend Experience for Steven Soderbergh as well as Ocean's Thirteen, Walking Tall, Runaway Jury, Knockaround Guys, and Rounders. Let's hope this project will take them all the way back to their poker roots. No director is attached yet and no start date has been set, but it sounds interesting. Being a big fan of Rounders (and poker) myself, I'm inherently excited for this. I'm curious to see what kind of story they can come up with that's set in the world of online poker world. It's definitely not as exciting as real poker, but »

William Monahan Adapting John Grisham for Shia Labeouf

17 February 2009 2:27 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Of all the John Grisham film adaptations A Time to Kill remains my favorite, The Client was pretty good, The Rainmaker was okay, The Chamber entertained for about a minute as did The Runaway Jury, The Pelican Brief I can't even remember and The Firm I did not like at all. Of that bunch I only read "The Firm" and when it disappointed me sorely I never picked up another Grisham until about five years ago when I read "The Partner" and "The Street Lawyer" but I never picked up "The Associate" but that appears to be the next Grisham novel to be getting a feature film treatment. Variety reports Paramount has brought on The Departed scripter William Monahan to pen the screenplay with an eye for Shia Labeouf to star. As I am sure many online Labeouf haters will scoff at the idea, but I can definitely buy into »
