In the early nineteenth certury the Darling family live in a house in London and their father works in the London Bank. He wants to move up in the social ladder as well as be promoted but he is somewhat hindered by his imaginitive children who act out stories of pirates, a somewhat odd version of Cinderella and marvel over the adventures of the evil and often cowardly Captain Hook and of course, the boy who never grew up, Peter Pan. The timeless story is brought to life not in animation but by real actors and special effects.

The tales of the pirates, Hook and Peter Pan are told by Wendy, who is getting too old to sleep in the nursery any longer with her younger brothers, John and Michael. Her fate is sealed when she gets detention from a teacher for drawing in class and tries to stop the messanger boy, but only botches things up by having Nana slide over the bank floor into Mr. Darling and his boss. That night she is grounded and told that she will never speak of another story or sleep in the nursery again! She is horrified, especially because Nana is put outside, and she has to take instructions on how to be a lady from her stuffy Aunt Millicent, who is convinced that Wendy has "kiss" on the side of her mouth.

Soon their parents are off to a company ball and Wendy tells one last tale of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Little does she know that Tinkerbell and Peter are outside listening at the window. Soon Peter's shadow escapes and Tink gets cross from being shut up in a drawer.

Wendy sews his shadow back on after he cries, and then he confuses a kiss with a thimble! He takes Wendy and her brothers to Never Never Land which is the second star to the right and straight on till morning. There they meet the Lost Boys, battle Captain Hook and get him eaten by the ticking croc who chomped off Hook's arm in the first place, as well as saving the Amerindian Princess, Tiger Lily, from Hook!

But first, Tinkerbell selflessly drinks the poison that that Hook tried to leave in Pan's medicine cup for him to drink.

With tears streaming from his eyes, Peter carries the lifeless fairy outside and starts to say, over and over, "I do believe in fairies! I do! I do!" Before long the entire cast (including the pirates) are saying it too! Tink wakes up and flies about, casting fairy dust in every direction.

Wendy and Peter finally kiss and Wendy calls it a thimble. They fly home on the pirate ship that's full of fairy dust and take back Wendy, John and Michael to their parents who have missed them so terribly. All the Lost Boys get adopted by the Darlings and Nibs by Aunt Millicent!

And what of the boy who never grew up? Well lets just say he still listens to Wendy's stories even now when she's a woman, and he always returns to Never Land, destined to never grow up...
